Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old The Bunnahabhain Single Malt Scotch whisky is from an endearing island off the west coast of Scotland called Islay, renowned the world over for its unique malts. The journey began over a century ago, close to the Margadale River, Bunnahabhain means mouth of the river from the Scots Gaelic tongue. At that time, the sea offered the easiest access to this remote place and men would battle the ocean to arrive with their barley in preparation for the creation of something wonderful. After years of maturation, the whisky would begin its journey, leaving by the same seaborne means on its adventure to foreign lands. Pronounced BÚ-na-ha-venn, this Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky is quite distinct from the many others on the island, given the wonderfully gentle taste profile for which it is known. There are two reasons for this - firstly, it has been created using lightly peated malted barley in a time-honoured distillation process and, secondly, this isolated coastal sanctuary takes advantage of the pure spring water that flows freely from underground away from the peaty moorlands. The Margadale Spring itself can be found in the mountains behind the distillery buildings and the area makes an interesting walk where the views give ample rewards to the adventurous. Tasting Notes The gentle taste of Islay. Nose: This golden dram offers a fresh and aromatic experience with a subtle whiff of smoke floating through the air. Taste: Starts with a light fruit and nut appeal that leads to a spectacular malty sweetness. Finish: Is worth the anticipation as it develops into a beautifully rich, full- bodied, lingering experience.
