They are said to be popular in Japanese desserts and a main ingredient in the American dish succotash. These plump-bodied, sweet in flavor kidney-shaped beans are also popular in soups, salads and spreads. Black Beans otherwise known as black turtle beans and frijoles negros, are small and round in size. These earthy flavored, shiny black beans are beloved in Mexico, Central and South America and all over the southwestern US. They are popular in salads, soups and burritos. Also try them as a topping on your baked potato or as a substitute in your traditional chili. Blackeye Peas are said to be brought to the US from Africa.
