National puppy day will be taking place March 23 rd which lands on a Thursday. On this day you can rescue a puppy and provide a home for him/her and have your own day for them. San Francisco is holding an adoption event for puppy day. National Puppy Day is the day to celebrate the unconditional love that puppies bring to people s lives Its also a day to help save orphaned puppies and educate the public about the horrors of puppy mills. It was founded in 2006 by a celebrity Pet & Home Lifestyle expert and author Colleen Paige. It is celebrated in the month of March. It celebrates all women s historical contributions. These historical contributions that are celebrated are of those made to society and events. PATRICKS DAY Every year on March 17 Irish observe St. Patrick s Day. It began as a religious feast day over time it has become an International festival celebrating the Irish culture. It includes parades, dancing, food, and a lot of green. People began pinching other who didn t wear green to remind them they weren't invisible to the leprechauns. This holiday was to honor the patron saint of Ireland. Patrick used three leaves of the shamrock to explain holy trinity the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. NATIONAL POTATO CHIP DAY MARCH 14 Did you know that Americans consume 1.2 billion pounds of potato chips each year? It s the nation s favorite snack food! An Irish chef named George Crum invented potato chips in Saratoga Springs in 1853. One day, a picky customer kept sending his fried potatoes back to the kitchen, complaining that they were too thick and soggy. Crum responded by slicing the potatoes so thin that they couldn t be eaten with a fork. The customer was so pleased with Crum's crispy creation that they became 4 a regular item on the restaurant's menu! To celebrate National Potato Chip Day, enjoy some of your favorite potato chips with your lunch or dinner!
LUCKY LEPRECHAUN COOKIES RECIPE Ingredients 1-1/2 cups butter, softened 1-1/2 cups sugar 2 eggs 3 teaspoons vanilla extract 4 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon cream of tartar 1 teaspoon salt 3 to 4 cups Royal Icing Assorted paste food coloring Green shimmer dust or edible glitter, optional Green shamrock sprinkles, optional Steps Miniature semisweet chocolate chips 1. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes or until easy to handle. 2. Preheat oven to 350. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4-in. thickness. For leprechauns, cut out dough with lightly floured 5-in. gingerbread boy cookie cutter. If desired, trim leprechaun's body for a thinner shape. 3. For each hat, cut a 1-1/2-in. square and a 1-3/4x1/4-in. brim from dough scraps. Place leprechauns 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Place hat squares and brims above heads, shaping gently to touch the heads. 4. Bake 10-14 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool 1 minute before carefully removing to wire racks to cool completely. 5. Tint small amounts of Royal Icing red, yellow and black. Leave a small amount plain. Tint remaining icing green and orange. Frost leprechauns; decorate with shimmer dust and shamrock sprinkles if desired. For eyes, attach miniature chocolate chips with plain frosting. Yield: about 3 dozen. 5
