Japan: Health and wellness remains an important consideration amongst consumers Japan stood second amongst Asia-Pacific countries in the World Economic Forum s Networked Readiness Index Ranking (NRR) in 216, benefitting from the upgrading of its ICT infrastructure, and a continuous focus on innovation. Japan is traditionally a very health-conscious country. In 216, total per capita consumer expenditure was AUD29,789 and per capita consumer expenditure on fruit stood at AUD233. Indonesia: Increased investment in infrastructure is expected to boost logistics Indonesia developed a nine-pillar economic strategy, Nawa Cita, launched in 214. China: Consumption of fruit benefits from rising consumer purchasing power Consumer expenditure on fruit increased by a CAGR of 11% over 211-216, to reach an estimated AUD167 billion in 216, supported by rising disposable incomes. This increase was driven by the rise in the middle class, which accounted for 23% of all households in 216, and the convenience of e-retailing of fruits. In 216, total per capita consumer expenditure was AUD4,398 and per capita consumer expenditure on fruits stood at AUD126. Modern retailers such as supermarkets and hypermarkets accounted for 36% of fresh food retail sales, increasing by a CAGR of 1% over 211-216. Thailand: Consumption of fresh food to bridge nutritional gap in diet Owing to a high obesity rate of 32%, an ageing population and other factors, the government continued its efforts to promote healthy living. In 216, total per capita expenditure was AUD4,779 and per capita consumer expenditure on fruit stood AUD14.
