About us The Crusty Cob bakery was established in 1969 by Michael and Patricia Tubbs in Ottery St Mary, Devon. The traditional Bread Oven was brick lined and coal fired and Michael had to load the loaves in and out of the oven with long handled wooden peels, while Patricia sold the fresh products in the adjoining shop. Keeping the business in the family, the bakery is now run by the second generation. Neil, Howard and Trudy have nine retail units and are supported by a workforce of over 100 valued employees including the third generation of family members. We are proud to make traditional, wholesome products, which are made from scratch each day in our Exeter bakery for same day delivery. We do not add Soya or Sugar to our bread and we use local suppliers and buy local ingredients wherever possible. As well as our own shops, we are proud to supply a number of local stores with our retail products, and deliver wholesale items to many Hotels, Cafes and Restaurants who include our products on their menus. But the examples you see are by no means exhaustive Because we are an independent bakery, we are able to change our production methods, adapt our recipes and change the shapes and sizes of our products to obtain individual results.
