Brewery Tours Welcome to the Second WensleyAle Festival! Firstly, we d like to say a huge thank you to you for coming along to support us at our 2016 event. - ARTISAN BREWHOUSE - SHOP - BAR - Purchasing this programme forms an important contribution to our next major project a goal to extend the Wensleydale Railway westward to Aysgarth by 2020: we cannot achieve this without support from you and the communities around the railway. We will be launching the official Aysgarth Appeal at our 2016 WensleyAle festival. If you have recently visited Redmire Station you would not have failed to notice the rather large bridge in the car-park. When the Catterick Military Railway closed in 1969, much of the infrastructure was left intact, to when the A1 was due to be widened we were very fortunate to have the opportunity to purchase the bridge entirely from donations and transport it to its current location. The intention is to renovate the bridge and ultimately install it at Apedale Beck, just beyond the end of the existing line, in our quest to reach Aysgarth. - Tours (by appointment): Monday-Saturday 11am and Monday -Friday 6pm - See a live working brewery in action and sample the magic of our artisan craft ales - Tours take approximately 1-hour with your own personal tour guide - Brewery Tap with licensed bar on-site and only 5 minutes drive to the south of Skipton Town centre towards Keighley COPPER DRAGON BREW ERY S K I P T O N GREYHAWK ARTISAN BEERS Call us on: 01756 701289 TOURS 10.50 FROM ONLY PER PERSON If you have time over the Bank Holiday weekend, our station at Aysgarth is holding open days on Sunday 29th and Monday 30th: the 856 bus will take you there for a look at the wonderful work which has already been achieved. Whilst on site at the festival, our staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist if you need us. We would like draw your attention to the brief but necessary house-keeping rules below, which endeavour to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all of us during this event: Please stay completely off the bridge it has the fencing around it for a reason. Please stay off the railway line. Please stay off the grass near the old station house this is now privately owned and would be classed as trespass. Where possible, please take litter home with you. Where possible use the toilets on the train (when moving of course). On arrival at Redmire, glasses for your beverages of choice will be 2 to hire. There is a raffle with some great prizes including first class tickets to London. We would love to hear your feedback about WensleyAle; forms will be available from various locations to fill in, with the chance of winning a prize! Above all, let s hope the tasting notes psyche up your taste buds, the music excites your soul and you take away great memories from the weekend oh and that the sun shines

The railway in Wensleydale is a remarkable survivor. Having lost its passenger services in 1954, and almost half its route mileage by the early 1960s, the line survived until 1992 by carrying limestone to the smelters on Teesside. When that traffic finished, the Ministry of Defence decided to use the line for the occasional transport of military vehicles and this traffic kept the line alive long enough for the Wensleydale Railway Association (formed in 1990) to build support and eventually form a company to take a 100 year lease on the 22 miles of line from Northallerton (Castle Hills) to Redmire. The line reopened to passenger traffic from Leeming Bar to Leyburn in 2003, and the following year the section to Redmire was also opened. In November 2014, a station was opened at Northallerton West which gives us a temporary presence in the county town. Thus, the line now serves Northallerton West, Leeming Bar, Bedale, Finghall Lane, Leyburn and Redmire, a distance of 22 miles. An intermediate station at Scruton is in the process of restoration although services will not be able to call there until a length of modern full height platform is built to augment the current original low height platform which cannot be used. In the longer term, we intend to rebuild the line west of Redmire to Castle Bolton, Aysgarth, Hawes and eventually to Garsdale on the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway. The railway is run largely by volunteers, supported by a very small number of paid staff, and you can help by becoming a member of the Wensleydale Railway Association (Trust) Limited.
