Followed by becoming proud patrons for the LoveBrum organisation, a charity close to our hearts supporting the city in which our business has thrived in. And to top off a brilliant year, we thought it was time all of our vehicles were upgraded, and we must say they look smashing! JAN/FEB 2017 MAKE MORE MON Y FROM CASK ALE! Cask ale is one of the key contenders in the drinks market; accounting for 17% of the total on-trade beer market, it continues to outperform the remainder of the category providing a huge opportunity for increased sales and profits. HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR CASK OFFERING Consumers want to know about the beers they are drinking, so make sure you display as much information as you can in your outlet. Visit www.cyclopsbeer.co.uk a user friendly system used to describe how a beer looks, smells and tastes. Approximately 2500 beers are listed on the website for any not there, contact the brewer for tasting notes! Display tasting notes on chalkboards or drip mats. Display a sample of each beer next to the pump in a small kilner jar to show the colour of the beer. That s great news! So when planning your range consider listing both well-known and unfamiliar brands. Pick a range of ABVs (weak strong) and colours (light dark). Listing and promoting craft beer is certain to attract cask drinkers to your outlet craft beer is seen as local, traditional and fashionable and appeals to drinkers of any age. Cask drinkers feel that staff should be knowledgeable about cask ale so it s a great opportunity to train your staff to provide advice and conversation on cask! Drinkers are more likely to stay longer, return or recommend a pub if their staff show knowledge of cask ale. Training your staff on cask ale is essential a free e-learning course is available at www.caskmatters.co.uk Encourage staff to talk about and promote your cask ale offering to your customers. JAN/FEB 2017 SCORE WITH LIVE RUGBY ACTION 4 th FEBRUARY - 18 th MARCH The Six Nations is a great opportunity to boost trade at the start of the year. As the highpoint of the domestic rugby union season it is certain to bring in the crowds. To make the most of the live rugby it pays to plan, prepare and promote your outlets offering. FIXTURES Round 1 Sat 4 th Feb 14:25 Scotland v Ireland 16:50 England v France Sun 5th Feb 14:00 Italy v Wales Round 2 Sat 11th Feb 14:25 Italy v Ireland 16:50 Wales v England Sun 12th Feb 15:00 France v Scotland Round 3 Sat 25th Feb 14:25 Scotland v Wales 16:50 Ireland v France Sun 26th Feb 15:00 England v Italy Round 4 Fri 10th Mar 20:05 Wales v Ireland Sat 11th Mar 13:30 Italy v France 16:00 England v Scotland Round 5 Sat 18th Mar 12:30 Scotland v Italy 14:45 France v Wales 17:00 Ireland v England DECORATE your outlet! Use banners and posters to make your outlet visually striking and create a great atmosphere during the tournament. National flag bunting is a great way to add some colour! GET YOUR STAFF INVOLVED! Getting your staff to wear rugby shirts or team colours contributes to the atmosphere. England matches will be the busiest so make sure you plan your staffing levels in advance to cover these games. Offer HALF TIME SNACKS. Make your offering quick and simple think hand held food such as burgers and hot dogs. Taking pre-orders for half time is a great way to ensure hassle free service. Think about your BIG SCREEN. Make sure you have used the best positions for overall visibility and when you check the volume bear in mind the likely build-up of noise during a big game! Why not INSTALL A SCREEN BEHIND THE BAR so that people don t miss any of the game while being served? This will also help you cut down the rush to the bar at half time. Don t forget to PROMOTE the next match or other forthcoming events at your outlet!

2017 PLANNING AHEAD for the big events VALENTINE S DAY Tuesday 14 th February EASTER WEEKEND Friday 14 th Monday 17 th April SPRING BANK HOLIDAY Monday 29 th May ST DAVID S DAY ST PATRICK S DAY WEDNESDAY 1 st / Friday 17 th March ST GEORGE S DAY Sunday 23 rd April FATHER S DAY Sunday 18 th June MOTHER S DAY Sunday 26 th March EARLY MAY BANK HOLIDAY Monday 1 st May SUMMER BANK HOLIDAY Monday 28 th August HALLOWEEN Tuesday 31 st October BONFIRE NIGHT Sunday 5 th November Make 2017 a profit boosting year by taking advantage of the big calendar events! Planning early for these events is essential for success and big profits! Well trained staff give your customers the best service, atmosphere and experience. Promote Identify your audience! Are you targeting families so that they come in groups to eat with you? Or is your event geared more to adults and boosting drinks sales? Promote your promotions, activities and offers well in advance! Use banners to highlight your events to passing trade. Chalkboards and posters are a cost effective way of advertising. Make sure they are always up to date and look professional. Social media is the perfect platform to promote your events and special offers. Food Create special themed menus to offer something different to your customers. Set menus work really well for key trading dates. The number of dishes is limited making service a lot easier for the kitchen. Including a bottle of wine with the set menus helps to attract customers by offering them value for money. Drinks Themed cocktails offer high margins and are a great way to increase drinks sales! Families are a key customer sector for pubs make sure you are appealing to them with an attractive range of soft drinks! Don t forget the adults as more and more of us are likely to order at least one soft drink during a visit to the local. Events Family fun days, beer festivals, BBQs, music nights and pub quizzes are all fantastic crowd drawing events to run alongside the big calendar occasions! Get ready for all the sporting action! Attract the crowds in to your outlet with the many live sporting events throughout the year! From the Six Nations to the Premier League and Champions League to Wimbledon there is something for everyone! Keep up to date on all the fixtures, make sure you are covered by a valid TV licence and ensure all screens are well positioned with adequate and comfortable seating.
