Galaxy Bath Bomb Bath bombs are a great way to enhance a bath and make it even more relaxing. They come in different shapes, sizes, and are often filled with nourishing oils that are great for the skin. All it takes is a little bit of mixing, some spritzing, and a few minutes of molding. Final Product 7 8 You will need the following materials: Citric Acid (If you are allergic, tartar powder can be substituted) 1 Cup Baking Soda 2 Cups Cornstarch (can also be replaced with tapioca and potato starch) 1 Cup Almond Oil (can be replaced olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, etc.) 1 tablespoon Essential Oil Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint (can be replaced with any types of essential oil to your liking) Epsom Salt 1/2 Cup (4 oz) Edible Glitter (optional but if used, only use edible glitter because it is not harmful to the ocean. Edible glitter will dissolve) 2 tablespoons (or desired) Soap Rose Petal (optional) Food coloring (3 colors: Purple, blue, pink) Water spritzer Water for the spritzer: 1 cup Bowls: One large bowl, four medium bowls, and one small bowl Circle ornament molds (classic bath bomb shape) A pair of disposable gloves Measuring cups (1 cup = 8 oz, 1/2 cups = 4oz, 1 tablespoon, and 1 teaspoon) Rubbing alcohol (optional): ⅓ cup Timer Spoons Page 1
Wet ingredient mix: Making the Bath Bomb 1. In the small bowl, mix your essential oils and almond oil. See figure 1. 2. Put the small bowl aside Figure 1 Dry ingredient mix: 1. Get a large clean bowl for your dry ingredients 2. Get a clean 8 oz. measuring cup 3. In the large bowl, use the measuring cup from step 4 and add in 1 cup (8 oz.) of citric acid. See figure 2 Figure 2 4. Then, mix in 2 cups of baking soda into the large bowl. 5. Add in 1 cup of cornstarch to the large bowl 6. Get a 4oz. (½ cup) measuring cup Page 2
7. Use the measuring cup from step 8 and add in ½ cup (4oz) of epsom salt to the large bowl. See figure 3. Figure 3 8. Use your spoon and mix all the dry ingredients thoroughly 9. Put your gloves on Mixing wet and dry ingredients: 1. Retrieve your small bowl that you set aside earlier 2. Slowly add your oils from the small bowl to the large bowl with the dry ingredients. See figure 4. Figure 4 3. Use your spoon and take your time to mix it because it can get lumpy. Continue doing this until all the lumps are gone. 4. Using all the medium bowls, separate your mixture from step 13 into 4 different clean bowls. Page 3
Dying the mixtures: 1. In your first medium bowl, leave the mixture its original white color 2. In your second medium bowl, add 5 to 10 drops of blue food coloring while using your spoon to mix slowly. 3. In your third medium bowl, add 5 to 10 drops of purple food coloring while using your spoon to mix slowly. 4. In your fourth medium bowl, add 5 to 10 drops of pink food coloring while using your spoon to mix slowly. See figure 5. Figure 5 5. Now get a clean tablespoon measuring cup 6. Using the tablespoon from step 19, sprinkle in 2 tablespoons of edible glitter. See figure 6. Figure 6 7. Set your four medium bowls aside. Page 4
Dampen the mixture to a wet sand texture: 1. Now, get your water spritzer bottle. See figure 7 Figure 7 2. Add 1 cup of water into the water spritzer 3. Add ⅓ cup of rubbing alcohol into the water spritzer 4. Shake the water spritzer before use 5. Retrieve your four medium bowls and lightly spray each mixture with the spritzer while mixing to get a damp sand (be careful not to spray it too much because it can start fizzing). 2. On one of the halves, place a soap rose petal flower in the center. See figure 10 Figure 10 3. Then, slowly scoop 1 tablespoon of the blue mixture from the medium bowl into the half with the rose petal. 4. Now add 1 tablespoon of the purple mixture from the medium bowl into the same half. 5. Scoop 1 tablespoon of white mixture into the same half. 6. Then, scoop 1 tablespoon of pink into the same half. See figure 11 Figure 11 7. Keep repeating steps 3 to 6 until it reaches the top of half the ornament 8. Press the mixture into the mold (this will make it more solid) 9. When you reach the top, add a little more and press the mixture down 10. On the other half, add 1 tablespoon of the blue mixture 11. Add 1 tablespoon of purple mixture Page 6
12. Add 1 tablespoon of pink mixture 13. Add 1 tablespoon of white mixture 14. Repeat steps 10 to 13 until it reaches the top of half the ornament 15. Press the mixture down into the mold with your finger. See figure 12 See figure 12 16. Add more if necessary and press down into the mold 17. Lightly mist the top of your halves with the alcohol/water spritzer 18. Get your 1 teaspoon measuring cup 19. Add 1 teaspoon of glitter on the center of one half for an extra glittery surprise in the bath Final Product: 1. Close the halves together tightly. See figure 13 Figure 13 2. Now use your timer and set it for 30 minutes 3. Let the bath bomb dry for roughly 30 minutes 4. Once time is up, open the ornament carefully. See figure 14 Page 7
