The seedlings are bare root stock. Each packet is dipped into a preservative gel to keep the roots moist and then placed into a plastic bag. If you intend to plant the trees within 2 days, keep them in the package in a cool or shaded location. If planting will be delayed longer than 2 days, open the package and make sure the roots and packing material are damp. Reseal and store the package in a cool place, periodically checking the condition of the trees roots. Do not allow the roots to dry out. The longer you wait to plant the trees, the fewer the number that will survive, regardless of the care given in storage. This deciduous tree is tolerant of drought conditions, high ph, and is salt tolerant. They are an excellent lawn tree for filtered shade. The fine small textured leaves casts a light shade and usually do not need raking in the fall.
