IP, LLC Insider Winter 2015 Vol. 4 Ed. 1 I bought a pumpkin at Aldi s for $3 you can t beat that right! I picked the biggest one there. I made a regular face on my pumpkin, a jack-olantern, and added eyebrows. People liked my pumpkin. My favorite part was carving it. We did an experiment with the seeds. Half of the seeds we boiled first then toasted, and the other half we just toasted. I liked the toasted only seeds better. Everyone at home liked my pumpkin and said I did a great and excellent job. ~Chris Chris
Each Fall a group of clients and staff meet at Kane Scott Nursing Home to create a Gingerbread House for the Annual PPG Gingerbread House Display and Competition. This year s theme was A Visit to Gus and Yia Yia s in West Park. Let us take a glimpse into the creation process from one session. David O. and Jimmy P. helped with making the tree branches. In order to make the branches more candy like, they were covered with brown fondant. Fondant is normally white. The first step was to color the fondant brown. This was done by adding drops of food coloring and kneading the color into the clay like substance. Kneading it also helped to soften it to mold on to the actual tree branches. The branches were placed behind the popcorn cart. David was so very helpful guiding Jimmy and working with him. This was a good opportunity for David to make more friends. After they completed this

Chris Chris and I made cookies for the Christmas party and Out and About With IP, LLC dance. I helped mix the dough and unwrapped all the Hershey kisses for the peanut butter blossoms. My favorite part was taking the wrappers off and putting the candies in the dish. I accidentally touched the icing so I washed my hands, but I survived! I supervised the rest. While Jen and I worked on cookies, Chris and Angie made chili and salad for lunch. They had a good time. They also made chocolate covered pretzels. ~Beth Beth
Regina and Emily I went to a fire safety course at Mt. Troy Volunteer Fire Company in October to learn what to do in case of a fire. We learned all about many different tools a fireman uses when putting out a fire. I re-learned an important safety fact which is you don't want to leave a pot cooking when the stove is in use and walk away. You also don't want to leave a pot too close to the edge of the stove as it can fall over and splatter on you causing a burn or catch your apartment on fire. I climbed into a fire truck with Regina. I also got to hold a very large hose. If you want to learn about fire safety, you should go to your local fire department like me and some of my friends did. I enjoyed learning with my new firemen friends Mike and Dave. ~Emily Emily, Dave, and Mike Mike, Sam, Joey, Marah, Regina, Emily, Cindy and Dave

Solon & Mosanine Bey Brothers Holiday Tea Wow! The holiday tea was a great success!! We worked so hard to make this day special for everyone! Each session, we researched books on manners and etiquette to become the best hosts we could be! We also made festive invitations using the computer with our staff. When making the invitation we planned the date and time, proper grammar as well as the best wording, and festive decorations for the invitations. Then, we sent them off! When the guests arrived on December 19th, we greeted them, took their coats, and directed them to beverage and dessert tables. We assisted with refilling coffees, teas, and hot chocolates throughout the morning; as well as, offered plates of pastries & candies. We learned SO much through this experience that we have decided to make this an annual event! We can't wait for our 2nd Holiday Tea! THANK YOU again to all those who attended & helped with this fabulous day!
Carrie and Aaron spent time over the holidays baking cookies. Aaron enjoyed mixing the cookie dough and especially cracking the eggs. We made sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and peanut butter cookies. Aaron enjoyed putting sprinkles on the sugar cookies and said he wants to bake again soon.

We had nice conversation during our visit together. We sure did do a lot of catching up. Julie misses all of her IP, LLC friends and was asking about everyone.
