The National Education Association's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that was designed to encourage every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss--Theodor Seuss Geisel. Our school certainly understands the importance of reading and is a strong proponent of literacy for all ages. Like Dr. Seuss, we believe that books and learning to read should be fun and exciting for children! We have chosen to honor Dr. Seuss legacy and celebrate by making literacy the focus of the day, and we will approach it with the same spirit of fun, discovery, imagination and creativity with which he lived his life! We have extended special invitations to a variety of celebrities from our community to come and share the magic of books with our students. Each celebrity reader that joins us will bring their favorite children s book; not only will they read it to the children but they ll also share the important role that reading and books have played in their lives.
