In each neighbourhood, Saanich Parks attempts to maintain a healthy diversity of trees, and plant tree species that are more resistant to disease, pests, drought, compaction, pollution, and urban stress. To maximize environmental benefits, Saanich Parks will generally select the largest tree that will grow on a site without causing future complications. Resident s preferences for specific trees are accommodated where possible. Saanich Parks will ensure the selections match the mature size of the tree with the width of the boulevard, consider overhead wires, utilities, building set-backs, and other constraints to potential growth. Other species not on this list will be considered depending on site location and conditions. Tree planting takes place in late fall/winter when the ground is saturated. Please send your selection(s) in an email to parks@saanich.ca and include your address in the subject line.
