Yur Baumatic BW18 Wine Cler A Quick Histry f the type f Refrigeratin used in yur Wine Cler... In 1834, the French physicist Peltier discvered a very intriguing phenmenn. When direct current ges thrugh different metals that are cnnected, ne jint will prduce heat while the ther will becme cld at the same time. Peltier s discvery meant that he had fund the semicnductr (endthermic jint and exthermal jint system). Whether the cnductr jint is endthermic r exthermal depends n the directin in which current flws thrugh the cnductr. This has becme knwn as the Peltier Effect. Semicnductr refrigeratin is based n a thermelectric device that includes the different P shape and N shape semicnductr materials placed in a certain way. When direct current ges thrugh, ne end releases heat while the ther absrbs heat. Once the heat prduced at the exthermal jint is released, the temperature f the endthermic jint decreases radically, resulting in crygenic refrigeratin. As the develpment and applicatin f semicnductr refrigeratin technlgy develp further, it s inevitable that it will cause a revlutin in the refrigeratin industry, radically changing the traditinal mnply f cmpressin refrigeratin This is especially imprtant in prtecting the envirnment. 4

Turning them anticlckwise will lwer the height. Remve all exterir and interir packaging, including prtective fam n the dr panels. Remember that children are particularly vulnerable t packaging materials and ld appliances discard materials with this in mind. Using yur Wine Cler : 1) Cnnecting First, cnnect the pwer. Find a suitable pwer utlet and make sure that yur vltage is the same as what is shwn n yur Wine Cler s rating label. 2) Pwer When yu cnnect the pwer, yur Wine Cler will start wrking. T turn the interir light n, press the switch n the tp right hand crner just inside yur Wine Cler s dr. 3) Adjusting the Temperature. Yu can adjust the interir temperature f yur Wine Cler by using the temperature adjustr n the upper side f the inside cabinet. High increases the temperature; Lw reduces it. Yur Baumatic BW18 Wine Cler 7 Interir temperature adjustment ranges frm 10-18 C (50 64.4 F), althugh clder temperatures can be achieved n the lwer shelves (abut 8 C). When the interir temperature reaches the pre-set temperature, it will be kept at that. There is n thermstat as the semicnductr system maintains itself. The extractr fan withdraws air and recirculates it thrugh the main fan belw it. 4) Cling Speed. The interir temperature f yur Wine Cler can reach 15 C (59 F) in abut ne hur. 5) Remember the character f yur wine chice. It s gd t keep yur red wines n the higher racks, and white, rsé, sparkling wines and champagne n the lwer racks. 6) String yur Wines After 1-2 hurs f wrking, the inside cabinet will be prperly cled, allwing yu t stre yur wines. Chardnnay is ften served t cld. Chill it at the higher temperature limit if yu can r keep it at the tp f yur Wine Cler. Yu can always allw it sme time t warm slightly when yu take a bttle frm yur Wine Cler. Remember that temperature stability is the mst imprtant element in string wine. After a bttle has been pened, the wine cmes int cntact with air. S it s best t then stre the remainder f the bttle upright t minimise the surface area f wine cming int cntact with the air. Once pened, wine will remain gd fr up t tw days (fr delicate whites) r three days (fr rich reds) as lng as the bttle has been resealed. Make sure the seal is firm by checking the stpper. Special stppers that keep wine sparkling and Champagne bubbling fr ne r tw days after pening can be bught at mst gd wine shps. 8

Yur Baumatic BW18 Wine Cler When stred crrectly, white wines can keep well fr up t tw years. Full-bdied reds will age well fr 10 years, and dessert wines will age well fr up t 20 years (see p.13). When yu buy a bttle f wine, transfer it t a suitable strage place immediately if yu aren t ging t put it in yur Wine Cler. Cheaper wines will nt age as well as mre expensive nes. Vintage Wines Vintage and lder wines need special attentin bth in strage and in serving. These generally tend t be rbust reds the better Brdeaux, Burgundy and Rhônes frm France and their New Wrld cunterparts (Cabernet Sauvignn, Merlt, Pint Nir and Syrah); deep Italian reds; and the strng, rich dessert wines like Prt, Sauternes as well as the fine late-harvest Rieslings frm Germany. Sturdier red wines can be kept quite well fr abut 10 years at a cl rm temperature (as lng as the temperature is kept as clse t 70 F/21 C as pssible). Nte that the wrst that can happen t sealed ld wine if it hasn t kept well is that it will taste flat and dull. When serving, bear in mind that lder wines becme fragile with age and may give up their spirit very quickly after the crk has been pulled. Yu shuld be careful if yu are ging t let lder wine breathe r decant. Very ld wines can be lsely re-crked if it is ging t be sme time befre they are t be served. Yu may want t cnsult a vintage chart t understand yur wine better. Vintage charts grade regins and years, allwing yu t have sme idea f what t expect shuld yu pen a vintage bttle. 9

Yur Baumatic BW18 Wine Cler Keeping yur Wine Cler wrking at its best. D nt stre chemicals in yur Wine Cler r near it. Be especially mindful that the rear f yur Wine Cler is the httest part. Remember that yur Wine Cler can nly cl wine bttles if the ambient (rm s) temperature isn t t lw. If the ambient temperature drps belw the setting yu have selected t chill yur wine t, the temperature inside the Wine Cler will chill t match that f the ambient temperature. This can run the risk f freezing, s make sure yu have taken a rm s temperature range int accunt befre yu set yur wine cler up in ne. Unplug the pwer surce befre cleaning yur Wine Cler. D nt use hard brushes, sap r detergent t clean the inside cabinet. Simply wipe it with a dry, clean piece f clth. D nt place any electrical appliance n tp f yur Wine Cler. Dn t try t frce the chrme shelves frm yur Wine Cler. If yu d remve the shelves, always pull them gently, watching fr bstructins, particularly the gasket seals. 10

Never use il t lubricate the hinge as il may seep dwn and attack the rubber in the dr seal. Pwer Failures: Mst pwer failures are crrected within a few hurs and shuldn t affect the temperature in yur Wine Cler as lng as yu dn t pen the dr t much. If the pwer is ging t be ff fr a lnger time, yu shuld be careful that yu dn t expse yur bttles t a dramatic warming, cndensatin r the chance f muld develping. Make sure that n grease r il cmes int cntact with the dr seals as this culd make them prus ver time and subject t cracking. If yu have t mve yur Wine Cler: Remve all bttles frm inside it. Tape dwn all lse items inside yur Wine Cler securely. Turn the levelling screws up (anticlckwise) int the base t avid damage. Tape the drs shut. Be sure the Wine Cler stays upright during transprtatin. 11

Yur Baumatic BW18 Wine Cler Things t keep in mind abut Wine befre yu put it in yur Baumatic Wine Cler Wine is a natural, perishable fd prduct. Left expsed t heat, light, vibratins, r fluctuatins in temperature and humidity, all wines (including sparkling wine, red wine and frtified wine) can spil. When prperly stred, wines nt nly maintain their quality, but many will actually imprve in arma, flavur and cmplexity as they mature. Temperatures greater than 70 F (21 C) will age a wine prematurely and in extreme cases will ck a wine, resulting in flat armas and flavurs. A humidity f arund 70% is ideal. Bearing this in mind, yu shuld knw yur wine s strage histry befre string it in yur Wine Cler. Ideally, yu will have either just bught it, r yu will have kept it in a cl, dark place with the bttle having rested n its side (except in the case f all frtified wines, excluding prt). Als make sure that yur wine s ld strage area was nt subjected t heavy r cnstant vibratins (eg., being next t a busy rad) and strng smells, as these can impair the flavur f all wines. If yur ld strage area was very dry, this may present prblems in that the wine may have leaked thrugh a split crk. Make sure that yur ld strage area had been cl but never freezing. Remember t make sure that yu keep yur Wine Cler in a place where it will nt receive much sunlight. Ultravilet light can penetrate even the darkest bttles and spil wine. If yu are ging t be string yur wine in yur Wine Cler rather than just cling it, it s a gd idea t keep in mind that the ideal temperature fr general wine strage is abut 57 degrees Fahrenheit (14 degrees Celsius), much like the cl caves used t stre wine in France. Never frget that all wine is alive. Althugh thankfully rare, there are several prblems with any kind f wine strage that shuld be understd befre yu get t placing bttles in yur Wine Cler (see belw & next page): Crking a tiny percentage (abut 1%) f bttled wine will experience this: essentially, the crk reacts with the wine and gives it a musty, unpleasant taste. It is the mst cmmn wine fault and is caused by harmless bacteria grwing n the crk. As unfrtunate as this is, there is nthing t d but t discard all the wine in the affected bttle. This is nt t be cnfused with small fragments f crk flating in the wine itself, which will nt impair the flavur. 13

Yur Baumatic BW18 Wine Cler Oxidatin when wine has been pened and left fr lnger than a day, it tends t lse its arma and clur, giving an verall flat taste. The nly way t avid this is t drink the wine n the same day it was pened r use a vacuum device specially designed fr wine bttles and drink it shrtly afterwards. Ullage this is lss f wine frm the bttle by evapratin r leakage. Signs f ullage include wine seeping arund the crk, a prtruding crk, r a stained label. It can happen if the bttle was allwed t get t warm. The wine may still be drinkable if the leakage was recent; hwever, please be aware that if the wine cls dwn again, cntracting, air can be sucked back int the bttle t cause further deteriratin. Very Slight Effervescence in Still Wine this isn t really a fault but is a result f slightly incmplete mallactic fermentatin frm when the wine was bttled.
