2 HISTORY OF SCOOP S PUB Why the name Scoops Pub? Scoops Pub began in 1971, known as Mr. Days and was owned by Tom and Betty Daher. Tom and Betty were the owners of Mr. Days from In 1991, Don McPhail bought Mr. Days and in 1996, changed the name to 1st Draft Choice. In 2001, Don became partners in ownership of 1st Draft Choice with his Uncle Rod. In 2002, Don sold 1st Draft Choice to his Uncle Rod and Aunt Cheryl McPhail. Although the bar was kept in the family, the name was changed to Scoops Pub. Scoops was the nickname of Rod s father who earned it due to his exceptional abilities as a minor league pitcher. Rod and Cheryl owned Scoop s Pub for only one year and then sold it to their niece Carla & her husband Larry Hunt, again keeping it in the family. Inevitably the family-owned chain was broken when, in 2008, Julie and Dana Larson purchased Scoops Pub. Although they are not related to the McPhails, Julie was employed at Mr. Days, 1st Draft Choice and then finally Scoops Pub.
