2 Happy 2018! We ve settled into the New Year a bit, February is fastapproaching, and there are all sorts of things to tell you about. Did you know February is National Cherry Month? And to celebrate, we have our best cherry deals of the year in this catalog! Each year I am asked, Why is National Cherry Month in February and not at harvest time in July or August? I haven t confirmed this, but I think it s because the old-timers in the cherry industry wanted to remind people six months after harvest that there were still plenty of scrumptious cherries available and ready to enjoy. For Valentine s Day, we are going skiing out West, where year after year she looks absolutely stunning making perfect turns on snow white slopes. In Seuss s Go Dog Go, there is this beautiful female dog skiing with this dashing male dog chasing her all over the hill. That s us. To Mamma Mary: Mamma Mary lost her Valentine 37 years ago. Her husband, my father, longtime elementary principal at Glen Lake Community Schools, died at 52 years old. She was certainly cheated by cupid. She married my father and immediately started having babies, while working full time and helping get her husband through undergrad at MSU. Then, with several kids in tow, she got my father through a master s degree, then another master s at U of M, and then one at Wayne State. By then, she had four kids with a fifth on the way. I don t remember them ever having time to be intimate with each other. With six kids running around the house, how could they? I do have this fleeting memory of them leaving the house arm in arm to go on a date! Dating? That was something my teenage brother was doing. My Mom never re-married. How could she? She had six kids consuming her life. I think all of us siblings recognize her sacrifice of not bringing a new father into our lives. And so we send her Valentine s Day gifts. I don t think it would be kosher to send her Cherry Republic gifts me owning it but Timmy, Petey, Patty, Matt and Michael do! Love, are delicious anytime!
