1 Funded by U.S. DOT/NHTSA and ODPS 12 TH ANNUAL Zero - Proof Preventing Injury Through Community Action M X-OFF Recipe Book Enjoy Your Holiday Season! Drive Sober. Lorain County Safe Community Coalition Conducted through the Lorain County General Health District 9880 South Murray Ridge Rd., Elyria, OH December 5 th, 2013 Phone: Connect with us: Lorain County General Health District
2 Last year, more than half of the fatal crashes on Lorain County roads were alcohol related. These deaths could have been prevented simply by having a designated sober driver. 1 Drunk driving fatalities occur all year round, but the holiday season is a particularly dangerous time on the roadways. In 2011, 760 people in the United States lost their lives as a result of drunk-driving-related crashes during the month of December alone. 2 Be the Hostess with Mostess All Year Long! Offer your favorite non-alcoholic beverage from the Zero-Proof Mix-Off as an option for guests Plan activities like party games or door prize drawings to keep guests engaged in things other than drinking alcohol Help guests to coordinate safe rides home before the party starts If a guest appears to be drinking too much, offer to freshen their drink up with a nonalcoholic version of what they had been drinking Close the bar at least 90 minutes before the party ends and offer a great dessert and non-alcoholic beverage As a party guest, YOU can be part of the solution too! 3 Drinking at a party is not mandatory for having a good time, so avoid pressuring others to do so 3 Volunteer to be a designated driver your friends and family will be thankful 3 If you see someone who is about to drive impaired, take their keys and help them make safe arrangements Together let s make sober driving the social norm in Lorain County. Please share your enthusiasm for the Zero-Proof Mix-Off and your favorite recipes by posting on your social media pages! Thank you for helping to create social change! #MixOff13 Sources: 1.
