12 SPACE PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS WHEN PLACING YOUR ROASTER The SPACE PLANING portion of this guide references the two free-standing components included in this model (Roaster, Chaff Collector), the venting connections between those components along with suggestions for venting your system to termination (typically outdoors). Beyond these components, users will likely require space for their own set-up during the roasting process including containers for green coffee and roasted coffee, stand/desk for a laptop, stools, work table, vacuum for removing chaff from chaff collector, scale, etc. When referencing the minimum space requirements we suggest, please adjust as needed for your own roasting process. On the next page is a suggested layout of the Roaster and Chaff Collector. Although other layouts are workable, this option is derived by prioritizing the following variables: (1) connecting the exhaust of the Cooling Tray Fan with the main exhaust flue above/beyond the Chaff Collector to prevent multiple penetrations in your roof/walls, (2) avoiding sharp bends/angles in all the vent lines to promote good air flow and cleaner vents by spreading equipment apart, and (3) providing clearance, access and reachability to different parts of the equipment that are required for safe operation. The venting diagrams and specified venting parts in the pages beyond are based on this arrangment. Deviations from this arrangement due to space constrainst will require modification of those specifications. The intake port on the Chaff Collector shall be within of the exhaust port on the Roaster (typically at the rear) with minimal angles in the venting connecting the two ports. 4. Chaff Collector Access: Maintain access to doors of chaff collector and clearance to allow for easy (and frequent) removal of chaff. 5. Blast Gate: When connecting the exhaust of the Cooling Tray Fan to the exhaust flue above/beyond the Chaff Collectior, we suggest using a blast gate in that venting line. This prevents back flow of roast exhaust into the fan. This will require the user to open the blast gate when the Cooling Tray Fan is in use and should be within reach from the left side of the roaster and Control Panel. 6. We suggest venting components have Quick Release features to allow for venting to be removed for cleaning and to provide clear access to the roaster interior and motors as required for maintenance. Space Planning Guidelines 1. Check your local municiple building code for regulations regarding the placement and venting of combustible production machinery. The requirements of your local authorities will govern in the event they exceed or contradict the recommendations made in this guide. 2. 18 GAS & ELECTRICAL Natural Gas users may want to have their gas pressure measured prior to their roaster arriving. If the gas pressure is below 10 of water column, they will be making modifications to the burners on their roaster which will require a Wire Size Drill Bit Set, #61-80, a 1/4 chuck adaptor and a drill. Electric: The 500g, 1KG, 2KG, and 3KG Gas Roasters operate on 220v service but allow for the use of the transformer to step up to 220v from 120v service. All Electric Roasters and 6KG, 10KG & 15KG Gas Roasters require dedicated 220v, 20amp service. This concludes Part I: Planning of the Graphical Guide for this roaster.
