2 Prepare Your Customers for the NYC Styrofoam TM Ban What It Is and How World Centric Can Help Local Law 142 goes into effect Nov 13th, 2017, prohibiting food establishments in New York City from using plastic foam cups and contain-ers. Mayor de Blasio pursued this ban after a study by Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia concluded that there is no way to prop-erly recycle these materials at their designated facility. Ban Basics As of July 1st, 2015: no food service establishment, mobile food commissary, or store throughout New York City will be able to use, sell, or offer e xpanded p olystyrene ( EPS) single service food items or loose fill packaging (commonly known as packaging peanuts). The law allows for a six-month grace period with fines going into effect beginning January 1st, BANNED PERMITTED World Centric Paper Hot Cup with Ingeo TM Lining Why is this important? EPS does not biodegrade and cannot be recycled at the designated NYC recycling processing facility in a manner that is environmentally effective, economically feasible, and safe for employees. Prior to July 1st, 2015, they must use up any existing inventory of EPS items.
