1 Who likes to take a walk at the pond? MARCH 2016 Do you care about the landscape and scenery? Hampton Community Association & Pond Commitee would like to preserve the walkway and what we all have grown to enjoy. But, with rising cost we are reaching out for support. We would like to resurface the walkway with perhaps limestone. Is there anyone able to help accomplish this tasks which would require the cost of the limestone and the distribution throughout the area? Or the equipment for moving the limestone from one end to the other. 2 HOROSCOPE Taurus April 21-May 20 For the month of March On the 1st, 2nd and 3rd you re thinking, okay what s the bottom line? Like a typical Taurus, you re totally focused on the (potentially big) cost instead of just enjoying the experience. If you can afford it, put the price tag out of your mind. You give out a lot of sympathy and compassion on the 8th and 9th, which could leave you feeling slightly depleted. Yes, you like to help people, but what are you getting out of it? If you re waiting for a thank you, don t hold your breath. There s an exciting energy in the air on the 12th and 13th, and the more pleasure you seek, the more you attract. When you have this much going for you, it s hard to feel down. Crossing the line into arrogance and egotistical behavior is tempting on the 19th and 20th, especially when you have an audience who is hanging on your every word. Make sure your head doesn t get too big to fit through the door! You have a lot of suspicions on the 25th, 26th and 27th, but can any of them be confirmed? Going on a hunch isn t enough; you need real proof this time. For the month of April Your eccentricity is on display on the 3rd and 4th, and although most of your friends know you as the conventional (or conservative) one, their eyes will get wide and they ll scratch their heads when they see some of the cool stuff you come up with! You re able to focus your energy on getting all the things you really want on the 9th and 10th, but make sure you leave room for spontaneity. Those improvised moments can t be replaced. Your ego is a big reason for personal clashes on the 15th and 16th, and the worst words you can mutter midmonth are I don t care. Replace selfindulgent behavior with selflessness and humanitarianism whenever and wherever possible. You get the love and support you need from unexpected sources on the 17th, 18th, and 19th, but few people will do you any favors without expecting something in return. Keep track of acts of kindness that others do for you and others so that you can pay them back in the future. You can try to ignore the bumps in the road on the 25th and 26th, but chances are that you can t just drive over them. Where there s a will, there s a way should be your personal motto. 5 Rotary Club of Bowmanville has invited the President of the Aboriginal Woman Association, Dr. Dawn Harvard Phd., to talk on Tuesday, April 5th at 7:30 am. The topic will be about the disappearance of Aboriginal Women and many other native issues at this time. 6 EASTER TREATS Easter Basket Cupcakes Recipe Ingredients 2 cups sugar (500 ml) 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour (425 ml) 3/4 cup HERSHEY S Cocoa (175 ml) 1 1/2 tsp baking powder (7 ml) 1 1/2 tsp baking soda (7 ml) 1 tsp salt (5 ml) 2 eggs (2) 1 cup milk (250 ml) 1/2 cup vegetable oil (125 ml) 2 tsp vanilla extract (10 ml) 1 cup boiling water (250 ml) 1 can (16 oz.) creamy vanilla ready-to-spread frosting (500 g) 3 3/4 cups sweetened coconut flakes, tinted* (925 ml) 33 TWIZZLERS Strawberry Twists (33) Assorted HERSHEY S Easter Candies (JOLLY RANCHER Jolly Beans, HERSHEY S EGGIES Milk Chocolate Eggs, HERSHEY S KISSES Brand Milk Chocolates, WHOPPERS ROBIN EGGS Candy) Directions 1. Heat oven to 350 F (180 C). Line muffin cups (2-1/2 /6 cm in diameter) with paper bake cups. 2. Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl. Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla; beat on medium speed of electric mixer 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin). Fill muffin cups 2/3 full with batter. 3. Bake 22 to 25 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely. 4. To make Easter baskets, frost each cupcake with vanilla frosting. Immediately make nest on top of each cupcake with tinted coconut; place assorted candy in nests. 5. For handle, insert wooden pick in each end of strawberry twists; press down into each side of each cupcake, bending to form handle.** Makes about 33 cupcakes. * To tint coconut, combine several drops green food colouring with 3/4 tsp (4 ml) water; add to 1-1/2 cups (375 ml) coconut. Stir until evenly tinted. Repeat using blue, pink or yellow food colouring. ** Adults should supervise children when preparing this recipe. Remove wooden picks before serving. Easter Egg Blondies Recipe Ingredients 1 1/4 cups softened butter (300 ml) 2 1/2 cups lightly packed brown sugar (625 ml) 2 tbsp vanilla extract (30 ml) 4 eggs (4) 3 cups all-purpose flour (750 ml) 1/2 tsp salt (2 ml) 1 1/4 cups CHIPITS SKOR Toffee Bits (200 g) 1 cup each assorted CHIPITS such as Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate; or White Chocolate Chips, melted (250 ml) Directions 1. Preheat oven to 350 F (180 C). Lightly grease a 17 x 11-inch (42 x 29 cm) rimmed baking sheet and line with enough parchment paper to overhang sides. Beat butter, sugar and vanilla until fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Mix in flour, salt and toffee bits on low speed, until combined. 2. Scrape dough onto baking sheet and spread evenly to the edges. Bake on middle rack for 20 minutes or until golden. Cool completely in pan; use parchment to help slide blondies onto a flat surface. 3. Use a 2-inch (5 cm) egg-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Decorate with the melted chocolate as preferred. Makes about 36 eggs. Tips: Don t waste the scraps they are great for snacking. To melt the CHIPITS, place in a heatproof bowl set over gently simmering water and stir until smooth. For any occasion treats, cut blondies into bars instead of egg shapes and drizzle with chocolate as preferred.
