2 Cooking Up Easter! Hello, we will be doing a segment talking about Easter recipes and activities. We hope you enjoy!!

3 For brunch you could make a delicious strawberry banana crepe. Total Time: Prep: 20 minutes + chilling cook: 10 min. Ingredients: 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon of sugar ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 ½ cups of milk 2 large eggs 1 to 2 tablespoons of butter Filling: 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened 1 carton (8 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed ½ cup confectioners sugar Topping: 2 cups sliced of fresh strawberries 2 medium firm bananas, sliced ¼ cup sugar, optional

4 Directions: 1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cinnamon, milk and eggs. Cover and refrigerate. 2. In an 8 inch nonstick skillet, melt 1 teaspoon butter. Stir batter; pour about 2 tablespoons into the center of the skillet. Lift and tilt pan to evenly coat bottom. Cook until top appears dry; turn and cook seconds longer. Remove to a wire rack. 3. Repeat with remaining batter, add butter to a skillet as needed. When cool, stack crepes on paper towels with waxed paper in between. 4. In a large bowl, beat the filling ingredients until smooth. Spread 2 rounded tablespoonfuls on each crepe; roll up. In a large bowl, combine topping ingredients; spoon with crepes (you should have about 18 crepes in total). 5. ENJOY!

5 For the dinner category you can have mouth watering easy baked salmon. Ingredients: 4 fresh salmon pieces or fillets 1 tsp fresh cracked pepper 1 tbsp melted butter 1 tsp finely ground sea salt 2 tsp herbs, any you desire Step 1. Don't preheat your oven! Step 2. Toss the salmon pieces in melted butter. Lay them on a baking sheet covered in tin foil. This will keep them from breaking apart. Step 3. Liberally season the salmon pieces. Step 4. Put them in the cold oven on the top rack, and put the temperature to 400 F. Let them cook for minutes, depending on the salmon s thickness and how well you like them done. Step 5. That's it! When it's done, you should eat it right away.

6 For dessert you can eat a cute dessert we like to call Mr.Bunny JELLO Pudding Dessert. Ingredients: 3.4 oz JELL-O Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding 2 cups cold milk 4 large JET-PUFFED Marshmallows, cut lengthwise in half 1 Tbsp. pink sprinkles ½ cup BAKER S ANGEL FLAKE Coconut 12 jellybeans 8 JET-PUFFED Miniature Marshmallows Step 1. Beat pudding mix and milk with whisk for 2 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes. Step 2. Spoon into 4 dessert dishes. Refrigerate for 15 minutes. Step 3. Press cut sides of large marshmallows in sprinkles for the bunny s ears. Step 4. Top desserts with coconut. Decorate with marshmallow ears and remaining ingredients.

7 Lastly, a great activity is Easter egg dying. Ingredients: Shaving cream Neon food coloring Hard boiled eggs Glass dish Rubber spatula Cardboard Wooden Kabob stick Rubber gloves Step 1. Put on the rubber gloves. Step 2. Spray the shaving cream evenly around the glass dish. Step 3. Put in a couple drops of food coloring. Step 4. Swirl the colors with the wooden kabob stick. Step 5. Roll the eggs in the mixture. Step 6. Put them out on cardboard to dry. Step 7. Enjoy!

9 How to make a Sprinkle Flower Cheesecake Ingredients Crust: 2 tablespoons of melted butter 1/2 cup almonds, finely ground (optional) for crunch 1/2 cup vanilla wafers, finely ground (optional) for sweetness 1/2 cup graham crackers, ground For the filling: 24 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature 1 1/3 cups granulated sugar

10 5 large eggs, at room temperature 16 ounces sour cream, at room temperature 1/4 cup flour 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 2 teaspoons lemon juice For flower icing: 1½ cups powdered sugar ⅛ softened butter ⅛ teaspoon of vanilla extract 1 tablespoon of milk ¼ cup of sprinkles Directions: Preheat oven to 325 F. Grease a 9-inch springform pan with melted butter or cooking spray. Crust: To make the crust crush the graham crackers, vanilla wafers, and almonds into a fine powder, and mix that with butter. Then, put the mixture into the pan. Filling : Beat the cream cheese on low until light into a fluffy mixture. Add the sugar a little at a time and beat until creamy. Add 1 egg at a

11 time, beat until all the eggs are fully combined. Add everything else needed in the filling, and then beat well to combine into a creamy batter. Firmly tap the bowl against the counter to release any bubbles from the filling. Pour the filling into the pan, and ensure that the filling is evenly distributed. Cook in the oven for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Remove the cheesecake from oven, and let cool completely. Then put in the fridge for 12 hours. To make icing: Add 1 ½ cups powdered sugar, ⅛ softened butter, ⅛ teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon of milk. Mix until the mixer/whisk has peaks on it. Add sprinkles and then mix with a spoon. When finished, put icing in piping bag that has a star tip, and evenly distribute it on the bottom of the cheesecake.

13 The first activity we picked was Funplex. Funplex is an arcade/laser tag and waterpark. We will be going to the waterpark (Splashplex). The next activity we will be having is a scavenger hunt. This year, all three the elementary schools will be participating in the scavenger hunt; 16th Avenue,Gilbert, and Gantner. This game is a way for the 5th grade classes from Elmwood Park to meet, and know who they will be going to middle school with next year.

14 We will also be having a fancy dance. The three 5th grade classes had a choice of 50 s, Hawaiian, or Fancy dance. The Fancy Dance won, and now we have a fun and exciting dance ahead of us! Our fourth activity will be the Jackals game. This is a baseball game that we hope the 5th will have to fun at. The PTO chose the Jackals game and we will be going to have a good time, while eating snacks and watching the game with your friends!

15 This next activity will be our first ever science fair! This is for the fifth grade to show their creativity and responsibility. We hope we have fun so the upcoming grades can do it, too. We are thankful that Mr.Silla agreed to this exciting idea. Another exciting event coming up is the 5th grade wax museum. This is when the 5th grade chooses an inspirational person that inspired them. We all dress up as our character and stand still and act like a statue. Then they will have to press 1 button to show what the person was famous for and give a little act. This is a fun activity for the school to watch and participate in!

16 The next activity is Field Day. This is a day for the the 5th grade to participate in a variety of games like, obstacles, running, sponge bucket, tug-a-war, and many more. This event lasts the whole day and we hope you enjoy it! Last but not least, is the 5th grade GRADUATION! This is celebrated at the end of the school year. This is a day to celebrate and feel proud of yourself for working hard and moving on to a new school. Everyone should be there to celebrate, have fun, and say goodbye to elementary school and hello to the middle school!

17 Fifth Grade Activities Survey Article By: Luisanna Rodriguez and Maria Mazurenko Mrs. Montone Mr. Bacigalupo Mrs. Buscio Activities Pool Party Fancy Dance Wax Museum Baseball Game We analyzed the above data. Mrs. Montone s class, as well as Mrs.Buscio s and Mr. Bacigalupo s classes mostly voted for the pool party. Only five people voted for the fancy dance out of the three classes. The Wax Museum had a total of two votes from Mrs. Montone and Mrs. Buscio s classes. The Baseball game totalled six votes from Mr. Bacigalupo and Mrs.Buscio s classes. In conclusion, the Pool Party was the most voted activity by our fifth grade classes this ye ar!

18 Interview Ms. Gallagher ~ Pre-k teacher By: Paulina Zak & Sofia Termini We interviewed Ms. Gallagher. She is currently a pre-k teacher at our school in room 13. Ms. Gallagher was nominated as the school s Teacher of the Year in March! Q~ How does it feel being nominated for Teacher of the Year? A~ Being nominated for Teacher of the Year is such a pleasant surprise! It is like my birthday, Christmas, and the 4th of July all rolled into one! It s just a happy feeling! Q~ How many years have you ve been teaching preschool? A~ This is my fifth year teaching preschool. Q~ What are some activities that your students enjoy? A~ My little learners love movement! They enjoy jumping on the trampoline, crawling through the tunnel, scooting on the scooter, bouncing on the big bouncy ball, playing with the hoola hoops,and swinging in the parachute! Q~ What are some new activities that you would love to try out with your class? A~ What a great question! I would love to have a service dog that is trained to comfort children visit our classroom and hang out with us for a while! I also would love to try yoga with my class, but I first need to learn it so I can teach it! It would be a great way to calm down and get ready to learn!

19 Q~ Why did you decide that teaching would be your career? A~ I always believed that I could help children be the best that they can be! I try my best to come to school each day and help our little learners get ready for kindergarten! Q~ What grades would you prefer teaching or would you want to stick with pre-k classes? A~ I really love preschool! There is so much to learn and we can learn a lot through play, art, music, and movement! Q~ Was this the first time you were awarded the Teacher of the Year? A~ Yes, this is my first time being awarded Teacher of the Year, and it is an honor that I will cherish for years to come. Q~ What kind of strategies do you use to get your students eager to learn and want to work together? A~ Wow! That s another great question! We have two sayings in our preschool classroom; First work, then play! and Share, share, that s fair! These are two strategies that work well in preschool and in every grade!
