4 What ou Need Ingredients 1 2 Steps cloves of 1 onion 2 carrots garlic 2 stalks of celer 3 Tbsp olive oil 1 lb ground turke 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes 1 tsp salt Cut onion in half, cut ends awa, and peel. Cut onion into strips, then dice. Add to mixing bowl. 5 6 Grate carrots on large holes of a box grater. Add to onions. Smash and peel garlic cloves. Mince and add to onions and carrots. 7 Cut celer into long strips and dice. Add to onions, carrots, and garlic. 8 1 tsp dried basil 1 tsp dried oregano 1 lb spaghetti Parmesan cheese Tools Heat oil in pot over medium heat. Add veggies to pot. Cook for 8-10 minutes, until softened, stirring occasionall. Add ground turke to pot. Use a wooden spoon to break turke into small pieces. 5 Health Heart Rate Discover how to measure and monitor our heart rate. Learn about our pulse and how to find it. Taking our Pulse What is a Pulse? Place two fingers on the outer edge of our windpipe located on the front of our neck, under our chin. Wiggle our fingers until ou feel a pulse thumping under our skin. How man times does it beat in 15 seconds? Circulation is the journe that blood makes around our bod, collecting and delivering oxgen. Blood is pumped b the heart muscle as it expands and contracts. ou can feel our heart beat, or pulse! Flip the card to find out how exercise affects our pulse and strengthens our hear t! Heart Rate Experiment Experiment with exercise to determine its impact on our heart rate. Experiment: our heart rate is the number times our heart beats per minute (bpm). Grab a partner and a timer! Record our heart rate after various activities below. Examine the results. Activit standing (aka resting heart rate) after 30 jumping jacks 30 seconds after jumping jacks 1 minute after jumping jacks Number of Beats in 15 Seconds Number of Beats per Minute (BPM) Results: What happened to our heart rate when ou exercised? How long did it take to return to our resting heart rate? The Science: When ou exercise, our muscles need more oxgen. Aerobic (pronounced airoh-bik) exercise gets our heart pumping faster, which will exercise and strengthen our heart. The more regularl ou exercise, the shorter our recover time, or the time it takes our pulse to return to normal.
