Communication between the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems make it possible for us to adapt and survive in our environment, and hormones are the messengers between these systems. Hormones are molecules that are released into the blood stream and exert biochemical effects on receptor sites to regulate our body s temperature, reproduction, growth, aging and immune functions. As messengers of the central nervous systems, hormones instruct our internal organs on how to function. Unfortunately, both men and women experience a drop in these life-sustaining hormones as they age. HORMONAL DEFICIENCY SYMPTOMS INCLUDE: miniat. Illa con utet nulput Weight Gain Loss of Muscle Mass Degenerative Diseases (Diabetes, Cancer, Heart Disease, Osteoporosis) A Compromised Immune System Wrinkling and Thinning of the Skin Depression and Stress Cognitive Decline Insulin Resistance Loss of Sex Drive Fatigue Sleep Disorders Replenishment of hormones to optimal, physiological levels (not exceeding normal limits) has been shown to alleviate these age-related changes. 4 metuera 4 4 Ud exeraessisi. MetueraNulla commy nim alit Recipes Recipe from allrecipes.com by prttimecook Spooky Calzone Snake Trick or Treat!! Total Time: 2 hr 5 min Prep: 30 min Cook: 35 min miniat. Illa con utet nulput Dough Ingredients: -1 tsp white sugar -1 cup warm water (110F) -1 (.25ounces) package active dry yeast -2 Tbsp olive oil -1 1/2 tsp kosher salt -3 cups all-purpose flour, divided Filling Ingredients: -1 cup ricotta cheese -2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese -1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, or to taste -1 (4ounce) package sliced pepperoni -1 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley -1/2 tsp italian seasoning -1/2 cup sliced black olives (optional) -1/2 green bell pepper, cut into strips (optional) -1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms (optional) -1 egg -1 Tbsp water Directions: 1-Dissolve the sugar in the warm water in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook. Sprinkle the yeast over the water, and let stand for 5 minutes until the yeast softens and begins to form a creamy foam. Stir in the oil, salt, and 2 cups of flour, and mix on Low until the mixture forms a wet dough. With the machine running, add 1 cup of flour, 1/4 cup at a time, and knead until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl into a ball. Knead for 3 to 5 more minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic. 2-Lightly oil a large bowl, then place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil. Cover with a light cloth and let rise in a warm place (80 to 95 degrees F (27 to 35 degrees C)) until doubled in volume, about 1 hour. 3-Combine the ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses, pepperoni, parsley, Italian seasoning, olives, green pepper, and mushrooms in a large bowl, and set aside. 4-Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 5-Punch down the dough, and roll it out into a long, flat strip about 9 inches wide by 30 inches long. Spoon the filling mixture down the center of the dough strip, leaving about 1 inch on all sides for sealing. Pull edges of the dough together; pinch to seal and form a long, filled roll. Place the roll, seam side down, onto the parchment paper in a snakey S shape, and tuck the ends underneath to seal. Beat the egg in a bowl with 1 tablespoon of water, and brush the egg wash over the calzone. 6-Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, until the calzone is golden brown. Let cool for 5 minutes before cutting into individual slices. Red Border Magazine Issue 285
5 Ud exeraessisi. MetueraNulla commy nim alit TITLE 5 5 Self Examination tips from nationalbreastcancer.org How often should I self-exam? Once A Month Adult women of all ages are encouraged to perform breast self-exams at least once a month. Johns Hopkins Medical center states, Forty percent of diagnosed breast cancers are detected by women who feel a lump, so establishing a regular breast self-exam is very important. While mammograms can help you to detect cancer before you can feel a lump, breast self-exams help you to be familiar with how your breasts look and feel so you can alert your healthcare professional if there are any changes. How should a self-exam be performed? 1) In the Shower Using the pads of your fingers, move around your entire breast in a circular pattern moving from the outside to the center, checking the entire breast and armpit area. Check both breasts each month feeling for any lump, thickening, or hardened knot. Notice any changes and get lumps evaluated by your healthcare provider. 2) In Front of a Mirror Visually inspect your breasts with your arms at your sides. Next, raise your arms high overhead. Look for any changes in the contour, any swelling, or dimpling of the skin, or changes in the nipples. Next, rest your palms on your hips and press firmly to flex your chest muscles. Left and right breasts will not exactly match few women s breasts do, so look for any dimpling, puckering, or changes, particularly on one side. 3) Lying Down When lying down, the breast tissue spreads out evenly along the chest wall. Place a pillow under your right shoulder and your right arm behind your head. Using your left hand, move the pads of your fingers around your right breast gently in small circular motions covering the entire breast area and armpit. Use light, medium, and firm pressure. Squeeze the nipple; check for discharge and lumps. Repeat these steps for your left breast. sources: Footer message
