The vegetable is related to the Western cabbage and of the same species as the common turnip. There are many variations on its name, spelling, and scientific classification. Often found in Chinese stir-fried dishes and soups. For reintroduction into diet, place into day:2 Brazil nut is a large nut with brown skin, and can be used in recipes that call for coconut or macadamia nuts, as they are high in fat content resulting in a rich flavor. Brazil nuts are high in Selenium. For reintroduction, place on day 3. BREWER'S YEAST Avoid also alcoholic beverages, apple cider, apple cider vinegar, processed foods, processed juices, processed meats & soy sauce, vinegar. May also be used as an ingredient in vitamin tablets. For reintroduction into diet, place into Day 2. BRUSSEL SPROUTS BUCKWHEAT CAROB Brussel sprouts are known to be native to cool regions in northern Europe. They are similar to cabbage in taste, but they are slightly milder in flavor and denser in texture. Brussels sprouts and cabbage are members of the cruciferous vegetable family. These vegetables contain significant amounts of the antioxidants vitamin C and beta-carotene (vitamin A). For reintroduction into diet, place into day: 2 Buckwheat enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in the mid 1970's that was brought on by the demand for commercially prepared breakfast cereal and by exports to Japan for making buckwheat noodles. Most of the buckwheat grain utilized as food is marketed in the form of flour. Buckwheat flour is used primarily for making buckwheat griddle cakes, and is more commonly marketed in the form of pancake mixes than as pure buckwheat flour. Also avoid buckwheat noodles, kasha. For reintroduction into diet, place into day: 4 Carob is popular in the baking ad confectionary industry. Carob powder and carob chips are sometimes used as an ingredient in cakes and cookies instead of chocolate. Carob can also be used in soft drinks. For reintroduction into diet, place into day: 4 CRAB Crabs are found in all of the world's oceans. Additionally, there are also many freshwater and terrestrial crabs, particularly in tropical regions. Also avoid seafood soups, seafood salads, imitation crab and crab cakes. For reintroduction into diet, place into day: 1 CRANBERRY CRAYFISH Cranberry sauce is regarded an indispensable part of traditional American and Canadian Thanksgiving menus and European winter festivals. About 95% of cranberries are processed into products such as juice drinks, sauce, and sweetened dried cranberries. The remaining 5% is sold fresh to consumers. The berry is also used in baking (muffins, scones and cakes) but, unlike many other berries, is normally considered too sharp to be eaten unaccompanied. For reintroduction into diet, place into day: 2 Crayfish, often referred to as crawfish, or crawdads, are freshwater crustaceans resembling small lobsters, to which they are closely related. Crayfish are eaten in Europe, China, Africa, Australia and the United States. 98% of the crayfish harvested in the United States come from Louisiana. Louisiana crawfish are usually boiled live in a large pot with heavy seasoning and other items such as potatoes, maize, onions, garlic, and sausage. They are generally served at a gathering known as a crawfish boil. Its primary natural purpose is to protect the egg yolk and provide additional nutrition for the growth of the embryo, as it is rich in proteins and is of high nutritional value. It is often separated and used for cooking (meringues, soufflés, and some omelets). Also avoid egg, mayonnaise, albumen, egg powder, custard, quiche, egg noodles, and egg pasta. Eggs can also be a hidden ingredient in glazes, margarine and even ice cream. Egg can also be listed as ovalbumin or lecithin. For reintroduction into diet, place into day: 2 The juice from old ginger roots is extremely potent and is often used as a spice in Chinese cuisine to flavor dishes. Powdered dry ginger root (ginger powder) is typically used to add spiciness to gingerbread and other recipes. Ginger is also made into candy and used as a flavoring for cookies, crackers and cake, and is the main flavor in ginger ale, as well as the similar, but somewhat spicier beverage ginger beer. For reintroduction into diet, place into day: 2 Alginate, a kelp-derived carbohydrate, is used to thicken products such as ice cream, jelly, salad dressing, and toothpaste, as well as an ingredient in exotic dog food and in manufactured goods. Several Pacific species of kelp are very important ingredients in Japanese cuisine. It is used to flavor broths and stews, as a savory garnish for rice and other dishes, as a vegetable. Transparent sheets of kelp are also used as an edible decorative wrapping for rice and other foods. For reintroduction into diet, place into day: 2 LENTIL BEAN Avoid also lentil soup. Can be used in curries and purèes. For reintroduction into diet, place into Day 2. LIME Limes are used in beverages, such as limeade (akin to lemonade). Alcoholic beverages prepared with limes include cocktails such as gin and tonic, margarita, mojito, as well as many drinks that may be garnished with a thin slice of the fruit. Tequila is commonly accompanied by lime wedges and salt. Beer is often served with limes in Mexico. Lime juice is also used in some commercial soft drinks. In cooking, lime is valued both for the acidity of its juice and the floral aroma of its zest. It is used in Key lime pie and is a very common ingredient in authentic Mexican, Southwestern American and Thai dishes. For reintroduction into diet, place into day: 4 MACADAMIA Macadamia nuts are eaten raw or after cooking in oil are roasted and salted; also used to make an edible bland salad oil. Also used in candies, covered in chocolate etc. For reintroduction into diet, place into day: 3 NAVY BEAN NECTARINE Small white variety of common bean also known as pearl haricot, navy bean and pea bean. Used to make French dish cassoulet and forerunners of modern canned baked beans (which contain other products e.g. tomato etc). Avoid also great northern bean & white beans. For reintroduction into diet, place into Day 3. Nectarine is a fuzzless variety of peach. Nectarines can also be found in salads and pies. For reintroduction into diet, place into day: 3 PEAR Avoid also pear juice. Can be used in cooking and pickling. Used in desserts, fruit salad, preserves and confectionary. For reintroduction into diet, place into Day 3. Ground Psyllium is a common over the counter bulk laxative and fiber supplement in such products as Metamucil. Look at all labels that state added fiber.for reintroduction into diet, place on day 3. SAFFLOWER Avoid also safflower oil, safflower oil margarine. Used in special diet mayonnaise, and salad dressings. For reintroduction into diet, place into Day 1. SWEET POTATO The roots are most frequently boiled, fried, or baked. They can also be processed to make starch and a partial flour substitute. Industrial uses include the production of starch and industrial alcohol. For reintroduction into diet, place into day: 3 SWISS CHARD Chard is a relative of the beet, grown for its white, fleshy chard and its greens, which resemble spinach. Chard is used in gratins, omelettes, and even in dessert tarts with apples and pine nuts. They are also used in southern France in pies or as a filling for ravioli. For reintroduction into diet, place into day:4 TARRAGON Tarragon is one of the four fines herbs of French cooking, and particularly suitable for chicken, fish and egg dishes.
