3 cava & sparkling production cava & sparkling All Cava is made in the método tradicional (as Champagne), then fermented in deep underground caves. This is where the name Cava comes from. This takes time, but results in some wonderful and complex wines and great variety. spanish wines have never been in better shape, now one of the world s most exciting wine regions. from traditional sherries and rioja right through to young wine makers making modern wines in lesser known up and coming regions, there s so much quality. we are proud to offer nothing but spanish wine across the board. Cava can come from many different regions of Spain, but 95% comes from Penedes in Catalunya. Not all Spanish sparkling wine falls under the cava umbrella, as some producers do decide not to have the word cava on their wines for various reasons. So this is a Spanish sparkling wine section really. all our cava and sparkling wine producers make environmentally friendly wines with small scale production, many still by hand. Vilarnau brut rosado, Penedès btl Grape: Trepat, pinot noir An intense beautiful deep rosé colour. Ripe strawberries and raspberries on the nose, smooth, fresh and creamy. A lovely rosé sparkler. the sparkling category is buzzing with incredible quality at great prices. gone are the days where cava was typified by stack them high sell them cheap poor quality supermarket offerings that gave it a bad name. sparkling wine from spain is of superb quality, holding its own against examples from neighbouring big brother champagne. small producers are making exquisite examples, not compromising on quality. you can also enjoy these at a snitch of the price of a bottle of similar quality champagne. we offer a wide range with something for everyone, some exquisite gems for special occasions as well as great easy going options. styles Joven minimum 9 months aged Reserva minimum 15 months ageing Gran Reserva minimum 30 months ageing Cava can also be categorised according to sugar levels. What s more the wine is fantastic! A dry fresh sparkling wine, fantastic with light tapas. Loraxel MM gran reserva brut, Penedés btl Grape: Pinot noir, chardonnay, xarel-lo Aged for 40 months, a stunning offering from a revered bodega. Hand disgorged when ordered, reaching you in peak condition. Delicate, floral and nutty, an exceptional wine. Not cava but a Penedes sparkling wine. Albert de Vilarnau, Penedés btl Grapes: Chardonnay, pinot noir A serious rival to high quality Champagne house offerings. Aged for over 36 months. Glimmering gold, intensely floral with honey and toasted notes. Delicate and elegant, unforgettable. RNG 2008, Penedes btl Grape: Xarel-lo, parellada This estate dates back to the 16th century. A vintage gran reserva named Ramon Nadal Gio. Incredibly elegant. Baked apple and brioche. Although dry it s wonderfully creamy. This shows how special Spanish sparkling wines can be.

4 sherry sherry sherry is no longer just your grans tipple from the back of the cupboard at christmas. it s rightly going through a renaissance in great bars and restaurants worldwide, providing us with some of the best quality and variety of any wine category. sherries are cool again and give incredible value for money. even a basic dry sherry you find in a supermarket has spent at least 3 years in the barrel, going through a complex blending system involving a lot of work. sherry country jerez de la frontera, the town that has given its name to sherry, is one of the three towns along with el puerto de santa maria and sanlucar de barrameda forming the sherry triangle. this lies in the region of cádiz, south western andalucia. if you get a chance go it s stunning. it s home to things many think of when they think of spain bulls, flamenco, guitars, stunning beaches, towering castles, small streets, beautiful patios and pueblo blancos. styles You can find a sherry to pair with any ingredient or dish imaginable. They range from bone dry straw coloured finos and manzanillas, to beautifully aged nutty and rounded amontillados and olorosos, to sweet raisiny pedro ximenez. Try with fried or grilled fish and shellfish. Xixarito manzanilla (75ml/100ml) 4.75 / 6.25 A stunning 8 year aged pasada manzanilla. Sharp clean acidity with big floral, saline and nutty tones. Superb with any fish, especially prawns. Tio Pepe fino (100ml / 375ml carafe) 4.10 / Bone dry and crisp, a classic benchmark fino renowned the world over. Savoury, almond and citrus notes. Great with Olives, Jamón and Cheese. Colosia fino del Puerto (100ml / 375ml carafe) 4.40 / A stunning pungent fino from the estuary banks of El Puerto de Santa Maria. Produced by a wonderful family producing wonderful wines. Viña AB amontillado (100ml / 375ml carafe) 4.75 / Excellent 8 year old dry amontillado. Burnt orange colour, aromas of walnut & vanilla, caramel flavours and an off dry finish. Great with Jamón and aged cheese Alfonso Oloroso (100ml / 375ml carafe) 4.75 /17.95 A traditional dry Oloroso, aged for around 10 years. Golden amber with hints of wood, dried fruit and vanilla. Very tasty, excellent with red meats, game and Manchego. Leonor Palo Cortado (100ml / 375ml carafe) 5.10 / The mystery of palo cortado somewhere between an amontillado and an oloroso. Beautiful wine, nutty, spiced and toasty. Perfect with game, red meat & mature cheese. Monteagudo palo cortado (100ml) 6.45 A luxurious stunning wine. Brimming with toasted almond, hazelnut and caramel. We find it quite addictive.. especially with mature cheeses and braised rices. Micaela cream (75ml) 3.85 Properly made quality cream sherry. Oloroso blended with pedro ximenez creating a smooth sweet raisin, caramel and figgy wine. Served in a tumbler over ice with orange. Monteagudo Moscatel (75ml) 3.80 A luscious honeyed floral dessert wine. Rich and aromatic, perfect with desserts. Nectar Pedro Ximenez (75ml / 375ml carafe) 3.95 / Deep mahogony colour, beautifully sweet with bags of raisin, caramel, dark chocolate and dates. Christmas pudding in a glass! Perfect over ice cream, with chocolate or blue cheese. Soluqua pedro ximenez (75ml) 9.50 A 30 year old incredible px sherry. Complex raisin, roasted coffee and tobacco notes. 5 white wine white wine spain has more land under vine than ny country in the world. in recent years it has shed its image of producing dusty red wines to become one of the most exciting wine regions for both innovation and quality. Espeto, La Mancha gls 2.85/3.95/5.60 btl Grape: Verdejo A balanced dry zippy white. Verdejo is Spain s answer to sauvignon blanc. Vinas del Vero, Somontano gls 3.15/4.30/6.20 btl Grape: Chardonnay, macabeo A lovely unoaked chardonnay. Clean and crisp, fantastic value, fruity and fresh. Vallemayor joven, Rioja gls 3.40/4.80/6.85 btl Grape: Vuira Clean and dry white rioja with lots of fresh fruit. Well rounded and a big favourite. Inurrieta, Navarra gls 3.50/4.90/6.95 btl Grape: Sauvignon blanc A bursting modern sauvignon from Navarra. Tropical fruit and pears with a little grapefruit, refreshing and clean, a great newcomer for us. Alvarez de toledo, Bierzo btl Grape: Godello A grape soaring in popularity. This is a true example of a godello fresh and young with lots of floral, stone and clean citrus fruit. Try it and be hooked! Libalis, Valles de Sadacia btl Grape: Moscatel, viura, malvasia What a mouthful! An explosion of fruit in this medium bodied silky white. A moscatel blend with heaps of personality inside & out Beronia blanco, Rioja btl Grape: Viura A well-made white rioja. Young, unoaked, crisp, fresh. Great on its own or with a host of dishes. Vega del Pas, Rueda btl Grape: Sauvignon blanc A modern sauvignon with an apple and gooseberry hit. Would suit NZ or French sauvignon lovers. Amaltea blanc, Penedes btl Grape: Garnacha blanca, xarel-lo A super white from an inspiring Catalan bodega producing some of the most exciting organic wines in the region. Easy going and dry with lots of green apple and kiwi fruit. Incredibly clean. Castelo de medina, Rueda btl Grape: Verdejo A classic fresh zesty verdejo. From an innovative bodega producing consistently great wines. Enrique Mendoza, Alicante btl Grape: Chardonnay A bodega using environmentally friendly methods in an ancient wine making area. Great aromas of pineapple, a lovely fresh style of chardonnay. Finca Constancia parcela 52, Toledo btl Grape: Verdejo Fantastic barrel fermented wine from a single plot producing the finest verdejo grapes in the Constancia vineyards. Fresh and smooth with lots of apricot and citrus. 3 Pueblos, Tierra Hermosa, Laderas de Genil btl Grape: Macabeo, viognier A belter of a wine from our friend Harry Hunt, a Bristolian heading up a winery near the Sierra Nevada, Granada. Luscious medium bodied white with bursting apricot, melon, pear and lime. Vinas del Vero, Somontano btl Grape: Gewurztraminer Silky and elegant, with roses, honey, lychee and syrup. Invigorates the senses, superb with food and great to try if you want something completely different. Doniene Txakoli, Bizkaino, Basque Country btl Grape: White hondarrabi A refreshing, tangy, zippy white made from hondarribi grapes. Produced in a modernized old vineyard creating stunning environmentally friendly wines. Pour from a height if you dare! Dandelion, Rias Baixas btl Grape: Albariño Incredibly small production wine (1800 bottles this year) from 100 year old vines right on the Galician coast. Delicate citrus and pineapple notes, really maximising the albariño character. Segrel Ambar, Pablo Padin, Rias Baixas btl Grape: Albariño A fantastic fruit driven albariño, combining the crispness of a sauvignon, aroma of a pinot gris and flavours of a viognier. rosado Vinas del vero Rosado, Somontano gls 3.15/4.40/6.30 btl Grape: Cabernet sauvignon, tempranillo Brilliant raspberry colour, fruity and fresh modern style rosé. Beronia Rosado, Rioja btl Bright strawberry pink, lovely floral aroma with bags of red fruit flavour. Crisp and fresh. Dahlia Rosado, Penedes btl Grape: Garnacha A delicate and wonderfully light pink rosé. From a great forward thinking producer, this vintage only produced 2000 bottles we d say a must try. all wine by the glass is served in measures of 125ml, 175ml and 250ml. bottles are 750ml unless stated.

AmpurdÁn Viore roble, Toro btl Grape: Tinto de toro Toro is an up and coming region for big gutsy reds. 5 months in oak gives you a lovely deep red, paring well with some of our charcuterie and meaty tapas dishes. Pieque tinto, Bierzo btl Grape: Mencia 100% mencia from 50 year old vines. Full, fruity and drinks well at room temperature or slightly chilled. Aldea de Adaras, Almansa btl Grape: Monastrell A modern style of monastrell giving this old native grape a fresh and quality touch. A full bodied spicy red definitely worth exploring. Vallemayor Vina Encineda, Rioja btl Single estate wine with 3 months of oak (semi crianza), bottled unfiltered. Intense red fruit. Balsamic and spicy aromas, perfect if you want a little oak but not a crianza or reserva rioja. Synera Crianza, Catalunya btl Grape: Cabernet/tempranillo/merlot A blend from the heart of Catalonia benefiting from hot summers and mild winters. Soft, dark cherry colour, chocolate, vanilla and sweet spice. Finca Constancia Parcela 23, Toledo btl Made from tempranillo grapes in plot 23 of the Constancia vineyard. Deep red, aromas of damson and vanilla. Soft and very gluggable. 20 Degrees, Tierra Hermosa, Laderas de Genil btl 24.95, syrah, garnacha Made by our friend from Bristol Harry Hunt, high above sea level near the Sierra Nevada. Named after the 24 hour temperature change there, this is a medium bodied red with plums, vanilla and pepper spice. Trus roble, Ribera del Duero btl Grape: Tinta del país A lovely ribera red spending 6 months in oak. Soft, spicy, fruity, figgy and smokey notes what a mouthful! A wine people come back to time and time again. Defora, Penedes btl Grape: garnatxa, samso A heady, big cherry aroma sets you up into this lushous and rich red. Loads of smoke and berries, new in to us & we are loving it. Enrique Mendoza crianza, Alicante btl Grape: Pinot noir A coastal bodega doing everything right for the wines and the environment, giving huge integrity to the finished product. Intense ruby red pinot noir with smokey rich soft fruit. Clos de Mas, Priorat btl Grape: Cabernet sauvignon, cariñena, garnacha Wowzers! Fruit, fruit, more fruit and spice. 7 cerveza y cidra bodegas beronia, rioja situated in ollauri in rioja alta, named after the berones people who inhabited the land in 3rd century bc. the bodega was founded in 1973 by a group of gents from a local gastronomic society, encouraged by a love of great food and wine. beronia is dedicated to producing stunning wines. thanks to a classic line of fine balanced crianza, reserva and gran reserva wines it is one of the top wineries in spain. it still follows traditional values in winemaking of the región whilst embracing new and unique techniques and environmentally friendly practice. Beronia crianza btl btl 23.00, garnacha, mazuelo A year spent in oak gives perfect smooth vanilla harmony & spice to this cracking crianza a safe bet every time with friends. Beronia barrel fermented tempranillo btl A unique style of Rioja with lots of choca mocha flavour! Packs a flavour punch, we could drink this all night long and have introduced it to many a bar 44 long lazy lunch goer. Beronia reserva btl 28.50, graciano, mazuelo Harmonious and complex, a classic silky Rioja. 18 months in the barrel and 2 years in the bottle before release. Maroon in colour with Vanilla and wild fruit spice, an elegant wine that s impossible not to like. Beronia gran reserva btl 43.00, mazuelo, graciano Aged in French oak for 30 months and 3 years in the bottle before release, perfect for your enjoyment now. A cracker of a gran reserva with deep cherry colour and aromas of plum, cinnamon and nutmeg. At the staff tasting we picked up chocolate notes amongst the smooth oak! cerveza y sidra our beers and ciders represent an eclectic mix from some of spains finest producers. the list ranges from refreshing lagers of north and south origin through to craft beers, asturian cider on tap and regional farmhouse basque cider. not forgetting our very own locally made pale ale. tap Alhambra, 4.8%, Granada caña / pt 4.25 Granada & Andalucia s finest. Calientini 6.75 Always a favourite at bar 44. Really well balanced martini with finlandia and elderflower, lillet, chilli and ginger. Made by macerating sloe berries and vanilla in anisette, producing an interesting liqueur served over ice. Ponche Caballero, 50ml 3.70 World famous digestif from our beloved El Puerto de Santa Maria. Based on old sherry and brandy sweetened with orange and herbs. Served over ice. Anis del mono (choose dry or sweet), 50ml 3.50 A classic style of aniseed pastis made just outside Barcelona. Recognisable from the cheeky monkey on the logo, served neat or over ice. Liquor 43, 25ml 2.75 Hugely recognised in the cocktail scene, this is a great sweet liqueur made with 43 different aromatics, vanilla and citrus lovely over ice. Lacuesta rojo vermut, 50ml 2.50 From the reputed Lacuesta rioja bodega, this red vermut is great flavour and value. Best served straight over ice, with a spritz of soda, or dare we say it a splash of cola! Lacuesta reserva vermut, 50ml 3.25 A stunning reserva version of above, with more depth. Serve over ice with some orange peel. Fino Lacuesta 4.50 Lacuesta rojo vermut simply stirred over ice with tio pepe fino, orange bitters and orange.
