Exhibitors in Classes 1-3 will be provided with 2 x 75cl clear glass bottles, with screw tops in which to present their entry. All UK cider & perry entries must conform to HMRC Notice 162.

Presented in 75cl full weight champagne bottles, with a wired down cork or plastic mushroom stopper. To be judged chilled. TWO BOTTLES OF NATURALLY SWEET, BOTTLE CONDITIONED CIDER Made using the process known as cidre bouche, ie arrested fermentation. Presented in 75cl full weight champagne bottles, with a wired down cork or plastic mushroom stopper. 7 FARMHOUSE CIDER Entry Fee To be manufactured from 2017 Cider Apple crop only, Unfiltered Cider. Entries in these classes to be judged in One Gallon or 5 Litre GLASS Demi-Johns. Class OC13 ONE GALLON OF DRY CIDER (specific gravity up to 1.008) * Class OC14 ONE GALLON OF MEDIUM CIDER (specific gravity up to 1.015) * Class OC15 ONE GALLON OF SWEET CIDER (specific gravity and above) * * Regarding label requirements please refer to Regulations 9. CIDER NEWCOMER AWARD Entry Fee Class OC16 TWO BOTTLES OF CIDER Open to cider makers making less than 2500 litres per annum. Ciders to be manufactured according to HMRC Notice 162, may be still or carbonated, cloudy or bright, made from fresh cider or dessert apple juice during Entries to be in two clear 75cl bottles with screw caps, bearing labels 'Sweet' (Specific gravity or greater), 'Medium ' (Specific gravity to 1.015) or 'Dry' (Specific gravity less than 1.005). For Craftsmanship within the Cider Industry The Worshipful Company of Coopers Trophy (PR39). For the Gold Medal winner in The Cider Newcomer Award The Vigo Presses trophy and a 100 voucher for cider making equipment from Vigo Presses.
8 Orchard & Cider Regulations Either enter on-line at by 11 April, or complete the enclosed entry form and send it, together with your fee to the Entries Office, Bath & West Shows Limited, The Showground, Shepton Mallet BA4 6QN to arrive not later than 12:00noon on 17 April. Cheques payable to Bath & West Shows Ltd. No entries will be accepted after the entry close date and it is a condition that all exhibitors names and addresses will be printed in the catalogue. Cider entered in Classes OC13 OC15 must be: unfiltered, exhibited in 1 gallon or 5 litre GLASS demi-johns, and fermented using fresh apple juice. Any Exhibitor whose entry fees amount to or more (including VAT) will be entitled to an exhibitor's day ticket. After the close of entries, you will be sent a pack containing the following: HOW TO ENTER What happens next Exhibitor s letter giving full details of when and where to deliver your exhibit(s). Pre-Show vehicle pass for Red Gate valid for Tuesday 29 May only. This pass will not admit to the showground at any other time. Removal Permit (if you wish to collect your entries). Exhibitor s Day ticket (for entry fees amounting to 20 or more). Any additional tickets which you purchased when entering. Exhibit labels to be attached to the bottles will be to you. These should be printed using the recommended label template and affixed as follows: Classes Two labels showing Class & Catalogue numbers one for each bottle. No other label must be shown on either bottle. Classes 4 12 Two labels showing Class & Catalogue numbers. FIRST BOTTLE should bear the labels as presented to the retail trade plus the label supplied by the Show. SECOND BOTTLE must only bear the label issued by the Show. Classes One label showing the Class & Catalogue number. No other label must be shown on the bottle. Class 16 - Two labels showing Class & Catalogue numbers. For exhibits entered in Classes OC1, OC2 and OC3 you will receive bottles directly from Vigo Limited, Dunkeswell Airfield, Dunkeswell, Honiton, Devon. Then Exhibits may be delivered to Brothers Drinks Co Ltd, Anglo Trading Estate, Shepton Mallet, Somerset BA4 5BY but will not be accepted before Monday 7 May and the latest any exhibit will be accepted is Friday 25 May. Alternatively exhibits will be received at the Showground from 12noon until 6:00pm on Tuesday 29 May. Finally Exhibits may be removed after 4:00pm (subject to approval by the Competition Steward) on the last day of Show. All exhibits will be disposed of unless specified. Any exhibit not collected by 7:00pm on Saturday will become the property of the Show and will be disposed of.
9 Entries: 1. Exhibitors may enter up to THREE entries per class, with the exception of Classes 1, 2 and 3 where entries are restricted to TWO per person. 2. Entries may be made: (a) Online at Entries close 17 April at 12:00noon and no entries will be accepted after this date. (b) On the printed form contained in the schedule, which should be forwarded with the correct fee to the Entries Office, Bath and West Shows Limited, The Showground, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, BA4 6QN to be received not later than 17 April. CONDITION OF ENTRY IS THAT ALL EXHIBITORS NAMES AND ADDRESSES WILL BE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE. 3. Pear Cider will NOT be accepted in Classes 11 & Apple Juice must not be carbonated or flavoured. 5. Entries in Class OC4 - Organic Cider, must enter the name of the governing body e.g. Soil Association under which the cider is produced on the Entry Form. 6. Any Exhibitor whose entry fees amount to or more (including VAT) will be entitled to an exhibitor's day ticket. 7. Cider entered in Classes 13 to 15 must be unfiltered, exhibited in 1 gallon or 5 litre GLASS demi-johns, and fermented using fresh apple juice in The addition of sugar to sweeten entries in the three classes is permitted. 8. After entries close Vigo Ltd, Dunkeswell Airfield, Dunkeswell, Honiton, Devon, EX14 4LF (Telephone Number: info@vigoltd.com) will supply, free of charge, the appropriate number of 75cl clear glass bottles for Classes 1, 2, & 3 to present their entry in. Bottles must be sterilised before filling. 9. Exhibit labels to be attached to the bottles will be to you and should be affixed as follows: Classes 1 3 TWO labels showing Class and Catalogue numbers one for each bottle No other label must be shown on either bottle. Classes 4 12 Classes TWO labels showing Class and Catalogue numbers. FIRST BOTTLE should bear the labels as presented to the retail trade and the label supplied by the Show. SECOND BOTTLE which is used for judging purposes, MUST bear the label issued by the Show ONLY. ONE label showing Class and Catalogue number. No other label must be shown. Class 16 Two labels showing Class & Catalogue numbers. 10. The Cider Newcomer Award, Class OC16 is open to cider makers making less than 2500 litres per annum. Ciders to be manufactured according to HMRC Notice 162, may be still or carbonated, cloudy or bright, made from fresh cider or dessert apple juice during Judging will take place on Wednesday 30 May. The judges will provide written feedback to all entrants on their ciders giving constructive comments on the attributes of each cider. Gold, Silver and Bronze awards will be presented and the Gold Medal winner will also receive the Vigo Presses trophy and a 100 voucher for cider making equipment from Vigo Presses. Competitors may only win a Gold award twice, thereafter they will be expected to enter the main cider classes. Delivery & Removal 11. Exhibits may be delivered to Brothers Drinks Co Ltd, Anglo Trading Estate, Shepton Mallet, Somerset BA4 5BY but will not be accepted before Monday 7 May and the latest any exhibit will be accepted is Friday 25 May. Alternatively exhibits will be received at the Showground from 12:00noon until 6:00pm on Tuesday 29 May.
10 No exhibit whatever shall have its position altered or be removed from the stand, after having been staged, except with the sanction of the Organiser. Please contact: Bob Chaplin, Chief Orchard & Cider Steward on for further details. 12. Every reasonable care will be taken of exhibits, but the Show will not be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur. 13. Unless specified, all will be disposed of, and any exhibits not collected by 7:00pm on Saturday 2 June, will become the property of the Show and will be disposed of at their discretion. If specified, exhibits may be removed after 4:00pm, (subject to approval by the Competition Steward) on the last day of the Show. Judging: 14. The Judges have the power to withhold a Prize from any class through insufficient merit. 15. No exhibit may be tasted, or in any way interfered with, whilst on the Show bench by the exhibitor or any other person, unless accompanied by the Competitions Steward. 16. Over time, judges are drawn from all parts of the country in order to include experience and preference over a full range of taste and regional variations. 17. Judges have the freedom to draw upon their own experience and competence in assessing ciders, without necessarily being bound by any particular formula or system of points for individual cider characteristics. 18. Judges are not able to provide feedback on individual exhibits, however, any exhibitor wishing for such information, are invited to attend the various clinics held daily throughout the show, or speak to the Competition Steward. Prizes: 19. Cheques for prizes (where awarded) will be sent by post to the winner by the end of July. Objections: 20. Any Exhibitor wishing to lodge an objection having reference to an entry exhibited at this Show must make the same in writing on a form to be obtained from the Show Office, and deposit the sum of 50. If, on investigation, the objection is not sustained to the satisfaction of the Disqualifying Committee, the sum thus deposited shall, at the discretion of the Show, be forfeited to the funds of the Show. All objections must be delivered at the Show Office on the Showground on the day on which the award is made, and no objection will be SUBSEQUENTLY received, unless a reason, satisfactory to the Disqualifying Committee, be assigned for the delay. The Disqualifying Committee will consider such objections at a time and place to be fixed by them, at which time and place any person making an objection must attend or be represented by his/her authorised agent. The decision of the Disqualifying Committee shall be final. Presentations: 21. The Cider, Perry and Apple Juice Competition Trophies will be presented on Thursday 31 May. The Orchards & Cider Committee request that winners be available to collect their prizes at the presentation and to give interviews if required. Please note all winners are required to sign for their trophies at the Cup Room in the Showering Pavilion. 22. Exhibitors wishing to have trophies engraved should do so at their own cost but any engraving must be similar in size, style and layout to previous engravings to ensure consistency. The Show will seek reimbursement for the cost of repairing any damage caused to trophies through mishandling or engraving. Health & Safety: 23. Exhibitors are reminded that they must conform to the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (as amended); Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSERA) and other relevant Health and Safety legislation. Exhibitors must also comply with The Equalities Act (formerly The Disability and Discrimination Act); the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order Act 2005; the Health Act 2006 incorporating the Smokefree Legislation. 24. Smoking is prohibited in all buildings. Environmental Health Officers and Trading Standards Officers will be in attendance at the Show and have the authority to take appropriate enforcement action.
