2 A lovely old town situated on the river Main represents a unique experience with its carefully restored half-timbered houses, cobblestoned streets and alleys where you will find many old wineries with artisan restaurants, private houses and boutique shops. The baroque-style parish-church of Saints Peter and Paul is not only an impressive skyline but is the only church in Hesse featuring late baroque-style frescoes. Explore various historic and nature trails winding through the vineyards and city streets, including the regional park trail, vineyard trail of the Upper Rheingau, the route of Saint Boniface. Your children will find their adventures on numerous playgrounds in the local park including a jungle bridge and a giant tower chute. Explore on your own or join a guided city tour in English you will discover the hidden treasures of Hochheim. WINE Viticulture has shaped our town for centuries and still does today. Hochheim s wine and sparkling wine became world-famous thanks to the visit of Queen Victoria in This visit is commemorated by the Queen-Victoria-Memorial standing high in the vineyards where Her Majesty tasted wine from Hochheim and proclaimed good hock! Even today wine is delivered to the English Royals by a local winemaker. Another historic figure, the third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson visited Hochheim. He loved our wine so much that he took 100 vines with him back home in order to grow his own Hochheimer wine. This history and more can be discovered while following the Upper Rheingau vineyard trail or in the museum of winegrowing. On 35 multilingual information signs our prizewinning winegrowers reveal some of the secrets of planting and growing prime wine.

3 INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY The wine-highlight of the year situated in the historic town center the festival offers live music on several stages, craft & art stands, amusement rides for kids and of course Hochheim winegrower s stands. Enjoy all that comes along with fine wine, delicious food and a relaxed atmosphere. Each year the International Museum Day is cele brated around the world. Hochheim s three museums participate by offering guided tours, creative exhibits and hands on activities for all ages. Get in touch with culture, art and history. Part tradeshows, county fair and festival, the Hochheim Market attracts over visitors from everywhere during five days. Every November the Hochheim Market offers every kind of goods and services along with events and attractions stretching over a huge area around Hochheim s Weiher. The perfect cure of boredom for families, singles, young and old. Experience the joy of Christmas in Hochheim: During three days the Christmas season is celebrated in the historic old town. Enjoy hot spiced wine, called Glühwein, snacks, food and music while strolling through the picturesque city streets. 4 HOCHHEIM S ART COLLECTION HOCHHEIM S MUSEUM OF VITICULTURE Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Antoni Tàpies, Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, Joseph Beuys, Wolf Vostell works on display. Hochheim am Main opened the first Hessian museum of viticulture. Visit and introduce yourself to the art of planting and growing wine in both historic times and modern times. Opening hours: Friday from 5 7 p.m., Sunday 3 5 p.m. Free short guided tours: Friday p.m. and Sunday p.m. Individual visits on demand. Address: Cellars of Haus der Vereine, Wiesbadener Straße 1 LOCAL HERITAGE MUSEUM OTTO-SCHWABE HOCHHEIM S WEEKLY MARKET Mr. Otto Schwabe s former private collection of historic items served as a foundation of our local heritage museum showcasing prehistoric and early historic collections stone and iron age up to artifacts from the Celts and the Romans. The local history is reflected by the many historic items from Hochheim, including local crafts & trade items and including a huge collection of photographs and documents. Each Saturday from 7 a.m. 1 p.m. shop for a variety of fresh high quality food. The market is located at the Alte Malzfabrik and has more than 25 years of tradition. Opening hours: Sunday 3 5 p.m. Individual visits on demand. From there head to any of the surrounding shops. Get out and enjoy a refreshing Saturday-morning market walk. Admission: is free. Donations are highly appreciated. Guided tours are available for groups of at least 10 persons. Guided tours in English are available by request.
