16 PVC Capsules 30x60 PVC Capsules are a plastic based material that requires heat in order to shrink the capsules to fit. The shrink fitting can be as simple as a hot air gun, a semi-auto capsule heat shrinker, or a fully automatic heat shrinker equipment. Different bottles from different manufacturers can have different finishes. We encourage you to request samples or call a Brick Packaging representative for assistance. Stock PVC Capsules Brick Packaging s Stock PVC Capsules are available in three different sizes, 30x60, 31x60 Bar Top Finish, and 32x60. We have access to other sizes; we would need a sample of the bottle in order to achieve a specialized fit. Orders received by noon ship same day! Semi-Custom PVC Capsules If you can use one of our stock capsule base colors, we can have your artwork hot stamped (not printed) onto the skirt, top or both. The minimum quantity is only 25,000 pieces plus tooling. 17 Ultimate Polylam Capsules A Polylam capsule is a secondary closure used primarily in the wine and spirits industries that provides tamper-evidence as well as a finished look on a bottle that further enhances that brand. Capsules can be plain or decorated with a variety of decorating techniques. Shiny White Shiny Black Rubino (Bright Red) Oro Fiorino (Matte Gold) Muschio () BLUE #5 Matte Black Prussia (Dark Blue) Polylam Capsule 28.5x55mm 4,147 Per Case Cream These capsules are a two-piece construction. The skirt is made from a multi-layer lamination of aluminum-polyethlene-aluminum and the top disk is made from a single layer of aluminum. The two pieces are glued together using heat and pressure during the forming process. The formed capsule is spun down onto the neck of the bottle with a spinning machine, known as a spinner. Our Ultimate Polylam material is a special material that is known for its great quality and excellent spinning characteristics. Many customers say it outperforms other polylams because it stretches and is nearly as pliable as tin. Our material is in a class by itself. We encourage people who are using heavier weight polylams to try our material on the bottling line for performance comparison. Our Ultimate Polylams are a cost effective and attractive capsule solution to replace high cost tin in today s challenging economy. Consumers will never know that it is not tin. 18 Natural Corks, Synthetics, T-Tops Technical Corks Natural Corks Bar Top Corks, also known as T-Top Corks, are used for products that require the bottle to be easily re-closed because the product may not be consumed at one time. Some products that may utilize a bar top corks are: ice wines, ports, dessert wines, spirits, olive oils, vinegars and salad dressings. Typically a Bar Top Cork would be used in conjunction with a bar top bottle finish. It is important that you select the proper size and type of Bar Top for your application. Synthetic Corks Micro-Agglomerated Corks Synthetic Bar Tops One-piece synthetic Both the top and shaft are molded as one piece. This eliminates the potential of the top separating from shaft. We stock the more popular sizes and colors. Two-piece synthetic This cork has an injection molded black ribbed top and a tan colored synthetic shaft. These bar tops are commonly used for clear spirits like vodka or gin. We can customize with wood tops and different sized shafts. Natural Cork Bar Tops The Natural Cork Bar Tops are the traditional and most common Bar Tops. The top is a black ribbed plastic with a natural cork shaft. We also stock a wood top with a natural cork shaft. Custom bar tops are available. Bar Top Pour Spouts These two piece Bar Top Pour Spouts have a removable top that acts as a lid. The synthetic shaft is also a pour spout and a flow reducer. The top is black and the pour spout/flow reducer is tan. We stock these in three sizes, custom sizes and colors available. Call For Samples to Ensure Proper Fit Natural Cork Natural cork is cut from the bark of the cork oak tree. These corks are 100% natural cork, with no agglomerated components. These are available in a variety of grades and price points, plus they are available in different sizes. For higher quality wines that might be cellared for several years, one should consider higher quality grades and possibly longer natural corks. Colmated Corks - not shown Colmated corks are lower grade natural corks in which the imperfections are filled with a cork dust/neutral adhesive solution. These corks are widely use for wines crafted for immediate consumption, within two years. Micro-Agglomerated Years of research has led to the development of the micro-agglomerated cork. Starting with very fine cork particles, a steam process is used to eliminate any halophenols and haloanisoles (TCA.). By binding together these cork particles with a food-grade resin, the results are a low cost wine stopper. Recommended for storage of wine up to three years. Technical Corks Also known as 1+1, or twin disks corks. These corks are a combination of sterilized cork particles and food-grade resins to form a dense, elastic stopper. On both ends of the stopper are disks of natural cork. Recommended for storage of wine up to five years. Synthetic Corks There are two basic production methods for synthetic corks, molded or extruded. Molded corks are sealed on all surfaces whereas extruded have exposed cells on both ends. Our synthetic cork is extruded, however all surfaces are sealed. Our synthetic cork is very unique and has been thoroughly tested by a major testing facility. The test results are available for your review upon request. We stock plain synthetic corks for your immediate needs. These corks are available custom printed with your logo. 19 Screw Caps (ROPP) Screw Cap (ROPP) Zorks Our 30x60 ROPP Screw Caps are aluminum closures that are used primarily in the wine and spirits industry. They are applied to bottles with an ROPP threaded finish and with a screw capping machine that can roll the cap down onto the threads of the bottle with the appropriate pressure to form a seal and provide an oxygen barrier. They can be produced with either a Saranex or a Tin liner. However, we only stock the saranex liner. While these kind of closures have been around for a number of years, they have recently gained popularity in the global wine industry as an alternative closure to cork since there is no chance that the wine can be spoiled from a bad cork. They are especially popular for wines that will be consumed in just a few years. Zork is very popular in Australia and has made its way into the U.S. market a few years ago. Zork can be applied with a simple capper or a fully automatic closing device. Using a Zork combines the capsule and cork into one easy to seal closure. The Zork Closure is only for use with specific bottle finishes. We have a large inventory of a wide variety of colors. 20 Oak Additives Powder Used for Fermentation Oak powder can best be described as oak flour. Due to very careful processing, the particle size of powder is smaller than 0.3mm. Commonly used during fermentation, powder can be added directly to picking bins and has been shown to reduce oxidation and protect natural fruit characteristics. Oak powder aids in the reduction, or elimination, of vegetal characteristics found in certain varietals, under-ripe fruit, or fruit coming from young vines. Furthermore, powder aides in the stabilization or fixation of color and cross polymerization of tannins (structure), without the addition of excess oak aromas during this critical stage of winemaking. Used during aging, powder allows for very rapid extraction. Nevertheless, caution is advised as the integration of oak aromas and tannins will not happen as rapidly as extraction; hence, one can expect a period of evolution, with a softening over time, in any wine treated with powder during aging. AGING TIME (Extraction Time): Hours Available In: French Oak Light, Medium, Medium Plus Toast American Oak Medium Toast Granulate Used for Fermentation Oak granulates are sized between powder and chips. This finely ground product resembles a loose tea or tobacco in appearance. Primarily used during fermentation, granulates can be added at the crusher/ stemmer or directly into the fermentation vessel. Their small size allows them to pass through winery equipment without risk. Oak granulates, like oak powder, aid in the reduction, or elimination, of vegetal characteristics found in certain varietals, under-ripe fruit, or fruit coming from young vines. Furthermore, granulates aid in the stabilization or fixation of color and cross polymerization of tannins (structure), without the addition of excessive oak aromas. The size of granulates is perfect for full extraction in a classic fermentation of 6-10 days. AGING TIME (Extraction Time): 6-10 Days Available In: French Oak Untoasted (Nektar Fresh)*, Light, Medium, Medium Plus Toast American Oak Light, Medium and Medium Plus Toast *Nektar Fresh French Oak has over twice the amount of tannin as American Oak. When oak is in the untoasted state, it is at the height of tannin. The higher the toast level, the lower the tannin level. Nektar Fresh is an excellent product for fermentation of both red and white wines. The benefits are: holds color, reduces vegetal flavors, reduces oxidation, and preps your wine for further oak aging. Chips Used for Fermentation and Tank Aging The classic oak additive medium-sized pieces of oak. In aging both red and white wines, chips are used when rapid turnover is important. Thanks to their small size and large surface area, extraction can be accomplished in 3-5 weeks. In the classic tea-bag form (chips restricted to a nylon bag), they are remarkably easy to use and require no modification to existing stainless tanks. Chips allow for the contribution of structure and oak aromas when barrel aging is not an option. Due to the rapid extraction of aromas and tannins a period of evolution in the wine can be expected after treatment with a softening over time. A useful tool in the fermentation of white wines, the chip s size allows them to be used in the classic tea-bag form (chips restricted to a nylon bag). The untoasted chip, when used at this stage, will add structure and aid in the elimination of reductive characteristics, stabilization of color and the natural expression of the fruit. When aging white wines with chips, it is recommended to do so on lees. AGING TIME (Extraction Time): 3-5 weeks Available In: French Oak Untoasted, Light, Medium, Medium Plus Toast American Oak Medium and Medium Plus Toast Special Chips Dolce Vanilla* *Dolce Vanilla This special blend of chips and toasts was created in order to contribute delicate vanilla flavors, as well as sweetness and volume, while respecting the fruit and sensory balance of the wine. Dolce Vanilla was perfected after lengthy research carried out by the R&D department and numerous red and white wine trials conducted by a team of oenologists. Dolce Vanilla should be added to wines during malolactic fermentation or during aging. Dolce Vanilla delivers balanced oak aromas over a period of 4-8 weeks. P sales@brickpackaging.com

21 Oak Additives We are here to help select the correct product for your application Segments Used for Tank Aging Segments are tank staves that have been cut into 17/8 x 17/8 squares. Packed in mesh bags of 11 pounds or 25 pieces. Segments can be used in precisely the same manner as the staves with the exception of aging time. Aging can be reduced to 2-4 months because increased surface area allows for more rapid extraction. The fact that they are pre-packaged in 11 lb. nylon bags allows for immediate use. AGING TIME (Extraction Time): 2-4 months Available In: French Oak Light, Medium, Medium Plus Toast American Oak By Special Order Stick Sets Used for Barrel Aging Stick sets are typically used in neutral barrels. However, they can be used to tune up a wine that is aging in older, lower flavor barrels. Stick sets are staves cut and linked to form a chain set of oak. These sets are dropped through the bung hole, a metal pin is used to attach the set to the bung. The short stick set consists of 24 pieces of oak, assembled in 8 sections. The short stick sets approximates 40% of the effect of a new barrel. The long stick set consists of 60 pieces of oak, assembled in 20 sections. The long stick set approximates 100% the effect of a new barrel. AGING TIME (Extraction Time): 3-6 Months Available In: French Oak Medium and Medium Plus Toast American Oak Medium and Medium Plus Toast Staves Used for Tank Aging Staves are the largest pieces of oak measuring 17/8 x 377/8 x 1/4. They can be assembled in fan sets or can be used individually for aging. You can use one wood type and one toast level, or a variety of woods and toast levels in order to build complexity. Staves allow for a slow extraction of both tannins and aromas; hence, the integration is as close to that of a barrel as can be obtained with the use of non-coopered oak. The use of staves in red wine can begin at the start of malo-lactic fermentation and continue or be initiated during aging. In white wines, stave use can begin at the start of primary fermentation and continue through malo-lactic fermentation or begin at malo-lactic fermentation. The Blend Stave s tight grain offers more aromatic potential, with reduced tannins, but requires more time for extraction. Missouri Oak The Missouri Oak Barrels are great all-purpose barrels; for white wines the characteristics are coconut, in the nose with a sweet vanilla cream in the palate. For red wines, the fruit is highlighted in the nose with a juicy fruit quality in the palate. Their tighter-grain is ideal and used for both red and white wines; showing a roasted nut quality in the nose, with a long, warm, integrated finish in the palate. The oak brings the fruit forward, creating a beautiful support with the wine. Appalachian Oak The Appalachian Oak Barrels have pepper & spice in the nose and a long, lemon-cream finish. Less sweet oak character which retains the perception of acidity. This elegant and versatile barrel works well on both red and whites. American/French Oak Barrels Hybrid Barrels American Oak Bodies (either Missouri, Minnesota, or Appalachian) and French Oak Heads. By adding French Oak Heads, you are adding complexity. Mid West Hybrid Barrels Half American Staves (either Missouri, Minnesota, or Appalachian) and half Medium Grain French Stave. The two different oaks will build complexity of flavors, while the French will add some structure. By adding French Oak Heads, you are adding complexity and structure. 23 Barrels French Oak Barrels Medium Grain Select This is the quickest oak extraction of the three French Oak options; less aromatics & more oak tannin than Tight Grain. A perfect fit for those customers barrel aging 12 months or less. Mixed Grain Select This selection is 50% Medium Grain and 50% Tight Grain French Oak. Available in White Wine Selection (WWS) or Red Wine Selection (RWS); Classic, Evolution or Revelation Toast. Tight Grain Select Due to the Tight Grain, the oak extraction is much slower than the Medium Grain Barrels and is recommended for any wine aging in barrels for 12 months and longer. Tight Grain has more aromatics & less oak tannin than Medium Grain. Extra Tight Grain Only the highest Quality, Tightest-Grain Oak is selected and produced into Barrels. Due to the grain tightness, oak extraction is very slow and it is recommended for wine aging in barrels for 18 months and longer. Small French Oak Barrels Small French Oak Barrels are available in 20L, 30L, 50L & 110L sizes and are perfect for home winemakers or wineries looking for a small barrel for topping wine. Our barrel washing stand is designed for use with our Standard Double Barrel Racks. The rack holding the barrels is fork lifted over the wash stand, then lowered so each barrel sits on the four wheels. The rack settles below the barrels, so the barrels and the rack are sitting below. The barrels are then rotated upside down to dump the lees. NOTE: There is room on the side of the wash stand for a five gallon bucket to slide underneath the bung hole. You can wash your barrels using your own washing system. After the barrels are cleaned, raise the barrel rack with the fork lift. The barrels will be perfectly centered on the racks for storage or filling.
