When you wander into the bar at Finn s for the first time, it doesn t take long to look around and realize that you are surrounded by an extraordinary work of art as well as a piece of history. The 1932 Jerry O Mahony dining car that houses our bar stood for many years in Northport, Maine, where it went by the name of the Pineland Diner. In 1982 it made the journey to Ellsworth and filled a gaping hole on Main Street. The new owners, Michael and Kate Welch created an eclectic menu that went beyond typical diner fare, replacing meatloaf with filet mignon and adding a wine list. Ten years later, the place changed hands and the new owners, including Maidee Chang, put up a building around the diner and renamed it Maidee s, which reigned as a vibrant, eclectic part of the bustling downtown. There was a brief stint as Calypso, then Finn s Irish Public House settled in. Now, filet mignon is gone, but meatloaf is back on the menu, along with a wide-ranging selection of gastropub favorites. Finn s has a mission: we want to be your destination. We want you to feel welcome, get great service, enjoy great food and drink, and maybe listen to some great music.
