2 A is for acupuncture Acupuncture is the practice of inserting needles into a certain point in the body to relieve stress and pain.

3 B is for bomb The bomb was invented by the Yi ethnic group in the 1850 s. It was made out of cast iron shells, filled with gunpowder, and a fuse.

4 C is for Cuju C is for cuju, cuju is like football. The rules are you kick a ball into a net, and surprisingly women played it instead of men.

5 D is for dominoes Hung Ming invented the dominoes to keep his soldiers awake during night hours as they were on watch for their enemies. ca/archives/culin/dice1893/invention.html

6 E is for Ephedrine Ephedrine was a medicine discovered around the Han Dynasty. It was used to relieve asthma.

7 F is for Firecrackers The bamboo plant was the very first form of firecracker. When placed on fire the plant s stored up air would burst out and create a large sound. Chinese people started using the firecracker to scare away an evil spirit named Nian who was told to eat crops and people.

8 G is for GO Go is a chinese board game invented around the Han dynasty and existed since 10 century BC. The objective of the game is to cover the most intersections on the board with your color of stones.

9 H is for Hand Cannon The hand cannon dates around to the 13th century under the rule of the Yuan Dynasty. It was also the first handheld firearm.

10 I is for Inkstone The inkstone was used for crushing up ink into liquid so it could be used for writing and drawing pictures. There are four regions that are famous for inkstones: 1.) Guandong Province 2.) Anhui Province 3.) Gansu Province 4.) Shandong Province

11 J is for Junk The junk is derived from the portuguese word junco. The ship s design was unique to china. The Junk carried up to five masts with linen sails that fold down like an accordion. It is still used today to transport cargo and people.

12 K is for Kite The kite was created in the 5th century BC and was started as a wooden bird that flew for 3 days. The kite was invented during the Zhou Dynasty. It was made of silk or sail fabric and bamboo. Some traditions say that the idea for the kite was from a farmer who put a string on his hat to keep it from blowing away. Others say Chinese Officials wanted to put a banner up high so people could see it.

13 L is for Landmine The landmine was created around the 14th to 15th century. It was used as a hidden bomb for people to step on and explode. The landmine was hidden but if stepped on it was deadly.

14 M is for Mahjong Mahjong is a gambling game that was invented in It was invented by Zhen Yumen. the game employs a set of over a hundred tiles.

15 N is for Nickel Silver Nickel Silver was first known, used, and invented in china. It was invented in the Qing Dynasty. It was smuggled into the East Indies although there was a ban on exporting Nickel Silver.

16 O is for Oil Well The oil well was invented in 347 AD. Oil was discovered in China when drilling was used to search for salt. net/history/chinese/oil_well.html

17 P is for Porcelain The first porcelain was not made until the Tang Dynasty ( ). Porcelain was expensive and was used for making lamps and other antique items. Porcelain was a beautiful and durable accessory. 18 Q is for Qin Emperor Qin started ruling when he was 13. He ruled from BC. Qin died in 210 BC because of a potion he thought would make him immortal because he wanted to rule forever. Qin had a group of doctors to make him a potion that would make him live forever at the time nobody knew that mercury was lethal, the doctors Qin had to make the potion didn t know that mercury was lethal so when they gave the potion to Qin he died of the Mercury.

19 R is for Rope Dart The rope dart is an ancient chinese weapon that dates from the Tang dynasty (618907). The rope dart is basically a rope with a very sharp knife at the end. It is considered a hidden weapon because of its concealment and portability. http: //ropedarts.com/about-the-rope-dart/

20 S is for Seismometer The first seismometer was created during the Han Dynasty in 132 AD. The seismometer was made by a mathematician and scientist whose name was Chang Heng. A correct prediction of an earthquake would result in fame for life. The opposite would result in shame and punishment.

21 T is for Tofu Tofu was created during the Han Dynasty. Tofu is made of soy milk from the soybean. It was first eaten in China about 2,000 years ago.

22 U is for Unmanned hot air balloons General Zhuge Liang is the inventor for this device. The balloon has been used since 3rd century BC.

23 W is for Winnowing Fan The winnowing fan was created by Ding Huan in 180 AD and was used for cooling people off when it was hot outside. It appeared in Wang Zhen s book the Nong Shu.

24 X is for Xiangqi The Xiangqi was invented by Han Xin during the Song dynasty. It is played in China, Taiwan, and many other Chinese communities.

25 Y is for Yuan Y is for Yuan. Yuan is the currency the chinese use. 1 Yuan is equal to 0.16 US dollars.

26 Z is for Zoetrope The Zoetrope, also known as a Magic Lantern, existed amongst the other treasures after the Qin Dynasty. A magician named Shao Ong performed in front of Emperor Wu of han and used a zoetrope in his performance. The first sightings of the zoetrope was in the late Han Dynasty in AD.
