Isle of Jura 10 year old Islands (C) 4.05 The palate is thick and full with more cereal, this time a barley fudge sweetness creeps in with creamy smoothness and a touch of aniseed. The finish is long with peppy winter spice. Balvenie Doublewood 12 year old Speyside (E) 4.05 Initially burst of rich sherry and red apple, quickly dried with lightly spiced and smoky oak, beautifully balanced with stewed fruit and ginger bread. Dalwhinnie 15 year old Highlands (B) 4.55 Clean and fresh, with heather honey, pears and a soft floral note. Bright and fruity palate, but also rich. The finish has just enough spice on to match the fruit. Laphroaig 10 year old Islay (G) 4.55 The oak is big, and muscles its way into the fore as you hold this whisky over your tongue. An upsurge of spices develop cardamom, black pepper and chilli. The finish is big and drying, as the savoury, tarry notes build up with an iodine complexity. Oban 14 year old Highlands (D) 4.55 Notes of citrus with smooth sweetness. The smoke wafts with notes of seaweed. The oak is quite rich with grist and cereal and malt. The finish is of good length with fruit and dry oak. Lagavulin 16 yr old Islay (G) 6.00 Very thick and rich. A massive mouthful of malt and sherry with good fruity sweetness, but also a wonderful sweetness. Big, powerful peat and oak. Finish: Long, spicy finish, figs, dates, peat smoke, vanilla.
