The finish is long with peppy winter spice. Laphroaig 10 year old (G) Islay 3.60 The oak is big, and muscles its way into the fore as you hold this whisky over your tongue. An upsurge of spices develop cardamom/black pepper/chilli. Finish is Big and drying, as the savoury, tarry notes build up with an iodine complexity. Oban 14 year old (D) Highlands 3.60 Notes of citrus with smooth sweetness. The smoke wafts with notes of seaweed. The oak is quite rich with grist and cereal and malt. The finish is of good length with fruit and dry oak. Macallan Gold (D) Speyside 3.60 Sweet notes of toffee and custard tarts balanced by some fresh green-apple skin. Brockmans England 3.50 Try with: Tonic, Blueberries & Pink Grapefruit Zest Coriander, blueberries and blackberries as well as bittersweet Valencia orange peels. The result is well balanced and full of flavour. Death s Door Wisconsin 3.50 Try with: Tonic & Fresh Lemon loaded juniper berries up front; spicy, citrusy notes from the coriander seeds in the midpalate; and a soft, cooling finish provided by the fennel seeds. Bowmore 12 year old (G) Islands 3.60 Surprisingly honeyed palate that s dominated by speat moke, dry oak, salt and seaweed with lemon zest, ripe pear and vanilla. Dalwhinnie 15 year old (B) Highlands 3.60 Malty. Walnuts steeped in manuka honey with vanilla sponge. Gentle smoke weaves its way through the cereal with a touch of spice. Glenfiddich (B) Speyside 2.95 Grain. Slightly floral, mineralic. Spirity, orchard fruit, malty, honey. Citrus develops. Light, floral, spices. Very smooth. Sweet, touch of oak and general fruit, oily. Glenkinchie 12 year old (A) Lowlands 3.60 Barley, freshly cut grass and cream-of-soda vanilla with herbal teak wood, walnut shells, toasted coconut and wisps of smoke. Light and malty, spicy crème anglaise with underlying dry smoky salty oak. Glenmorangie (B) Highlands 3.60 Fresh and balanced, vanilla. Boiled sweets, very creamy, tiramisu, toffee. Finish: Quite long, gentle, malty and very fruity. Highland Park (E) Islands 3.60 Notes of granary toast and green tea with jasmine. A touch of sweetness.
