The word saving referring to energy consumption/cost to run in a like for like scenarios The client has provided us with the following statement by the Energy Savings Trust A typical household boils a kettle on average 4 times a day Methodology This report will select at random an off the shelf kettle that has a 1.5L boil capacity and log it s consumption on a chart We will also log the 2 models of thermal pot supplied by the client with the same volume of water The results will be compared This report will look at a number of scenarios that the client deems as likely/typical and apply these findings This report will then apply the increased capacity of the thermal pots to each scenario and calculate the energy saving/loss difference between the technologies

3 Scenarios Scenario 1 Mr Jones from Gloucester boils his kettle in the morning for tea and once again in the evening for a coffee after his dinner (over 12 hours apart) The first boil he fills the kettle The second boil he does not (less volume) Scenario 2 Mrs McCall from Edinburgh boils her kettle 3 times a day to warm her babies bottle and twice a day for a well earned coffee and biscuit The first bottle of the day is at 6am and the bedtime bottle at 7pm The first boil she fills the kettle, It is toped up for the second and third boils also Boil five is a full kettle but on the final boil she does not top up (less volume) Scenario 3 The sales office with 6 staff has a round of teas in the morning when they all arrive As there are 6 people in the office it empties the kettle every time they have a tea break Throughout the day the staff refill and have tea breaks at 11am, 3pm, & 5pm Each time they make tea/coffee the office drains a full kettle Scenario 4 Margot and Phil take tea in the morning with their breakfast. Phil also uses hot water for his porridge At 11am they have 4 friends visit for coffee and cakes At 3pmMargot and Phil take afternoon tea usually whilst watching Countdown Just before bed they make a hot chocolate The first boils is a full kettle The second boil is also a full kettle The third boil is a full kettle The fourth boils is not refilled (less volume) Scenario 5 Mr & Mrs Average who boil their kettle 4 times in a day refilling every time they re-boil from the tap Using all 1.5L of water in the kettle Scenario 6 Mr & Mrs Jones from Wales boil their kettle four times a day 1 st boil = full 1.5litre boil; using 2 x mugs of 7am 2 nd boil = boil remaining water for 2 x mugs of 11am 3 rd boil = full 1.5litre boil; using 1 litre for 5pm 4 th boil = refill to 1 litre for 2 x 9pm Scenario 7 Jim & Mavis are retired and love a cup of tea!
