6 Shape- N- Amaze A little bit about the Shape-N-Amaze. It is ready to use modeling paste that is designed specifically for modeling bigger figurines. Upon opening the package, the paste will be firm and this is normal. To make it workable, break it into small pieces and knead one piece at a time. It is available in different colors, and can be easily tinted just like the fondant with the gel colors. Once it is pliable (and colored if desired), it needs to be covered with plastic wrap or in a small plastic bag to prevent from drying. The benefit of using Shape-N-Amaze is that you can create bigger figurines and attach parts to it without waiting for them to dry.

7 Introduction to Fondant All the little figurines in this book are created using converted Fondant icing also known as sugar paste. Fondant icing is a type of icing that has a dough- like consistency. The primary purpose of fondant is to cover cakes and boards and also for cutouts to decorate cakes and cupcakes. There are different suppliers out there, but all the fondant is very soft and pliable, not strong enough to be used for modeling. To be able to use the fondant for modeling, it needs to be converted into a modeling paste by adding CMC (Tylose) or Gum Tragacanth to it (natural thickening agent). The quantity required will vary, according to the humidity and the temperature of the room. Start with roughly one tsp. (5ml) of CMC to 250g of fondant, knead well, and wrap it nicely in plastic wrap. Let it sit for about 20 minutes to firm up. If the fondant is too dry or still too soft; you need to adjust the amount of CMC. Another way to convert fondant into a modeling paste is to mix it with Gum Paste (Flower Paste) 50 percent fondant and 50 percent Gum Paste. When exposed to the air the fondant will dry; it should be covered with plastic wrap at all times. If the fondant is a bit dry, when working with it, apply a small amount of vegetable shortening on your hands and knead it into it, to make it soft and pliable again. Keep the working area clean as it does pick up dirt and lint quickly. Always have a small container with vegetable shortening and a dusting pouch to use if the fondant gets sticky. Always dust the working area with the dusting pouch before rolling out the fondant to prevent it from sticking to the surface. Allow your creations to dry overnight, the bigger the figurine; the longer will take to dry. Upon opening the package of fondant, it will be a little bit hard; knead in a small amount of vegetable shortening to make it pliable. To store the fondant, coat it with a thin film of vegetable shortening; cover with plastic wrap and keep it in a small zipped plastic bag. You can make your own Fondant

8 Convert Fondant To A Modeling Paste Compared to Fondant Icing, the "Shape-N-Amaze" is a slightly darker in color and much stiffer in consistency. All the figurines in this book are created with Fondant Icing converted to a Modeling Paste, but Shape-N-Amaze can be used as well.

9 Tinting the Fondant The best way to color the fondant is to use gel colors, as they won t make a difference in the consistency. The fastest way to incorporate the colors is to stretch the fondant, twist and fold. There is a pre- colored fondant, which is very helpful for vibrant colors such as red, blue. To protect your hands from the colors use gloves or vegetable shortening. If the sugar paste gets sticky, apply a small amount of vegetable shortening on your hands.

12 Basic Shapes There are five basic shapes required for modeling all the characters and the accessories in this book. The fondant measurements are taken using a cutting mat in inches. Always start with rolling a smooth ball of fondant.

13 The Projects

14 Prepare The Board Before starting to work on the projects, dust a board with the dusting pouch and set aside. The board is where all the fondant figurines and parts will dry. It s easy to move without touching them, which means less chance of breakage. The dusting pouch (mix of icing sugar and cornstarch) will prevent the fondant from sticking. If there is some of the sugar dust on the fondant, it can be brushed off with a small brush once the figurine is dry. *The drying time will vary, depends on the size and the shape of the figurine. Typically it will range from 12 to 24 hours.

17 The Pink Mat Roll out the pink sugar paste with the rolling pin without the guiding rings. Using the ruler and the straight edge of the quilting tool cut out a rectangle shape. Make sure it will fit into the size of the cake you are decorating. The final project, in this case, will be for six- inch cake. To make the fringe use the knife tool to make small cuts on the shorter sides of the mat and outline it with the quilting tool. Place it on the pre- dusted board to dry while you are working on the project.

18 Wooden Basket For the wooden basket mix a little bit of the brown sugar paste with white sugar paste to create a marble effect. Roll it out with the rolling pin using the pink guiding rings that will give you a 16 th of an inch thickness. Cut two pieces 2 inches long x 1 inch wide and two pieces 1- inch squares. Using the ruler and the straight edge of the quilting tool gently mark horizontal lines on two of the big pieces and the 1x1 square pieces. Shorten the 1- inch squares with 16 of an inch. The flat piece (without the lines) will be the bottom of the basket. The two small pieces will go on top of the base, paint one line of water on both ends of the base to attach. Hold them for a second to make sure they will stay. Paint the sides with a small amount of water and attach the large pieces on the site of the basket. From the cutouts shape the handles for the basket by gently bending them in the middle and attach them with some water.

19 The Blue Ribbon & The Bow For The Basket For the ribbon and the bow, roll out a small amount of blue sugar paste using the pink guiding rings on the rolling pin. For the ribbon cut a long strip (a little bit longer than 6 inches) using the straight wheel on the quilting tool. Make sure it is long enough to wrap it all the way around the wooden basket (image 1, 2). Paint the ribbon with a small amount of water and attach it to the side of the basket. Start and finish somewhere on the front so that you can place the bow on top of the seam. For the bow, cut two strips from the same blue sugar paste as the ribbon (image 3). Add some water to the middle of the long piece and fold both edges so they meet in the center (image 4). Attach the small strip to the center of the bow with a dab of water and place it on the ribbon (image 5, 6).

20 Ball Of Yarn For Kittens To create the balls of yarn, take the bigger ball (image 1) mark the threads with the knife tool. From the small ball, roll out a rope using the fondant smoother to help with making a long and even rope. Attach it to the yarn ball all the way around and some small pieces across with a dab of water.

21 Wooden Basket With Balls Of Yarn Arrange the ball of yarn in the basket and let them dry on the pre- dusted board while you are working on the kitten.

22 Shaping Lucy s Head To shape the head of the little kitten use the stick tool mark a line just above the middle of the head (image 2). Using the big stick tool make two holes for the eye sockets. For the muzzle flatten the small ball of white sugar paste (image 4, 5) and attach it just underneath the eye sockets on the bottom half of the face with water. Using the knife tool mark a vertical line halfway up in the middle of the muzzle. Mark a small horizontal line and cut a small opening for the mouth. Roll a small teardrop shape from the pink sugar paste for the tongue (image 7). Press with your finger to flatten. Mark a line in the center of the tongue, and attach with a dab of water (image 8). Using the needle tool mark the whiskers. From a small amount of light pink sugar paste (image 9) make a small ball for the nose and attach with water.

23 The Eyes & The Ears To make the eyes for the kitten roll out two small white, two smaller blue and two tiny black dots of the sugar paste. Gently flatten them with your finger. Add a dab of water to attach the pieces starting with the white then the blue and in the center of the blue goes the black dot. Using the small scissors cut two small whiskers on both cheeks (image 1). Roll two small ropes about half an inch long from the black sugar paste for the eyelashes. Gently pick them up with the brush and place them on the top of the eyes (image 3, 4). To form the ears roll two small teardrop shapes from the gray sugar paste flatten them by gently pressing with your finger. Roll two smaller teardrop shapes from the pink sugar paste for the inside of the ears, attach them with water (image 5). Pinch them gently to form and add a dab of water to attach them to the head (image 6).

24 The Body & The Legs To make the body, from the ball of gray sugar paste roll a teardrop shape. Lay it down on the mat and flatten the bottom. Slightly press to flatten the top of the pointy end of the teardrop shape to create a place for the collar and the head. Break a small piece of a toothpick, dip it in the water and insert it close to the end (image 3). To shape the front legs: roll a ball of gray sugar paste to a tapered sausage shape. To form the paws gently pinch with your thumb and your index finger and lightly roll back and forth. Flatten the top of the legs and mark the toes by holding the knife tool vertically in front of the paw to make indents. Attach the legs to the body with a dab of water just in front of the toothpick (image 5). The back legs are slightly bigger than the front legs (image 4). To shape the back legs: roll the ball of gray sugar paste into a sausage shape (image 5). Gently pinch with your fingers just above the paw. Bend almost like the form of the number 2. Flatten the top half of the leg (image 6), mark the toes and attach to the body with water (image 8).

25 Attaching The Head & The Tail For the collar gently flatten a small ball of orange sugar paste by pressing with your finger. Paint with water where the body and the legs are connected just around the toothpick and attach the collar. Apply water on top of the collar and attach the head (image 3). Roll a ball of sugar paste, the same color as the body into a small rope to form the tail (image 1, 4). Make a little indent with the back of the small stick tool, apply water with the brush and attach the tail (image 5).

26 The Stripes & The Hair Roll 3 tiny ropes from the dark gray sugar paste. Gently flatten and attach them with a little bit of water to the back of a kitten (image 1, 2, 3). For the hair, roll seven small, different sized teardrop shapes from the dark gray sugar paste. Paint the top of the head with a dab of water and arrange them between the ears. They can be curled, laying flat, or sticking up.

30 Princess: The Head To make the head, roll a ball of gray sugar paste, mark the placements for the eyes with the small ball tool (image 2). Using the small scissors cut two whiskers on the chicks (image 3). For the eyes roll a small ball from the white sugar paste gently flatten. Flatten a small ball from the blue sugar paste and attach to the white with a dab of water (image 5). Gently pinch the top of the head to shape it (image 7). With a little bit of water attach the eyes (image 3). For the eyelid, from a small ball of the gray sugar paste, shape a small sausage shape, flatten and attach with water on top of the eye slightly overlapping (image 8). Roll two tiny rope shapes about half an inch long from the black sugar paste for the eyelashes and attach them to the bottom of the eyelids with a little bit of water. Open up the mouth a little bit with the knife tool to make space for the lips. To make the lips roll a small sausage shape from the pink sugar paste, flatten and mark a line with the knife tool in the middle (image 9). Attach with water.

31 Princess: Ears & Tongue To form the ears roll a small teardrop shape from the gray sugar paste. Flatten gently pressing with your finger (image 1). From the light pink sugar paste make a little bit smaller teardrop shape flatten with your finger and attach with a dab of water to the gray teardrop shape. Attach the ears to the head with water (image 3). Pinch to form them if needed. Make a small cut with the knife tool to open the mouth (image 5, 6). For the tongue, roll a small teardrop shape from the pink sugar paste (image 4). Press with your finger to flatten. Mark a line in the center of the tongue, and attach with a little bit of water. To finish up the eyes, attach a small dot of black sugar paste for the pupil on the bottom left corner of the iris (image 7). *If hard to pick up small parts, use the needle tool.

32 Princess: The Body To make the body from the ball of gray sugar paste, roll a sausage a shape (image 1, 3). With your finger roll back and forth just above the middle of the sausage shape to form the body (image 2). Push the front end up and gently pinch on the sides to shape the chest area of the cat (image 4).

33 Princess: The Body Insert a wet piece of toothpick in the middle of the front part of the body to support the head. With the help of the needle tool, mark the back legs and gently round them up so that they are a little bit lower than the body (image 2). Pinch the body in the middle and roll between your thumb and index finger to elongate it a little bit more and create a little curve. The central part of the body doesn't touch the surface (image 3).

34 Princess: Front Legs To make the front legs roll a gray ball of sugar paste into a tempered sausage shape (image 2). To shape the ankles roll between your thumb and your index finger just above the paw. Mark the toes by holding the knife tool vertically in front of the paw. Gently flatten the top part of the legs and attach it to the body with a little bit of water (image 3). Flatten the small ball of pink sugar paste to create the collar and attach it to the body with water, paint the collar and the toothpick with water and attach the head (image 5).

35 Princess: The Bow From the pink sugar paste, roll a long piece and cut a strip just a little bit longer than 2 inches. Cut a second piece less than one inch long (image 3). Apply a little bit of water in the middle of the long strip, fold both ends and pinch it to shape the bow. Use a little bit of water in the middle over the seam and wrap it with the small strip of pink sugar paste (image 6, 7). Mark the whiskers with the needle tool apply a little bit of water on the collar and attach the bow.

36 Princess: The Tail & The Hair For the hair, roll seven small teardrop shapes from the gray sugar paste. Paint the top of the head with a little bit of water and arrange them between the ears (image 1). From a small ball of gray sugar paste, roll a 2- inch long sausage shape and pinch the ends (image 3). Create the texture on the tail by gently pressing with the knife tool (image 4). Attach the tail to the body with a little bit of water.

37 Princess: The Hat With the rolling pin without the rings, roll out the pink sugar paste and cut a circle with the round cookie cutter (image 3). Prepare the thin foam by dusting it with the dusting pouch. Place the base of the hat (round cutout) on it. Using the ball tool thin up the edges by holding the ball tool like a pencil, place it halfway on the sugar paste and halfway on the foam and make long strokes pressing and thinning the edge all the way around (image 4). From the smaller ball of pink sugar paste (image 1), shape the top part of the hat by flatting the bottom part (image 6) and attach it to the middle of the base with a little bit of water (image 5, 7).

38 Princess: The Bow For The Hat To make the little purple bow and the ribbon, roll a ball of purple sugar paste to about 4 inches long rope (image 1, 2). Using the rolling pin press it to flatten and roll it out. Cut a four- inch long strip (image 3, 4) and a smaller one about an inch long. Attach the long piece to the hat with a little bit of water, overlapping the edges (image 6). Use a dab of water in the middle of the small ribbon fold the edges and attach to the hat with water (image 7). To finish up the bow, roll a small amount of purple sugar paste into a ball and attach it with a dab of water in the middle of the bow (image 8). Paint the back of the cat s head and attach the hat to it.

39 Princess: The Long Shells To create the shells, use a little bit of dark brown sugar paste and a bigger piece of beige sugar paste (for the beige color knead a small amount of the brown sugar paste with white sugar paste). Make two ropes from the two colors apply water on one of them to make them stick together (image 2). Twist and fold them to achieve a marble effect (image 4, 5). Roll a long tapered rope. Paint a line with the water (image 6) and start rolling in a circle. Apply water as needed (image 7). When happy with the size of the shell, cut it with the knife tool. Apply a little bit of water at the end of the rope and attach it to the body of the shell. Gently push with the small ball to create a hole it in the middle.

40 Princess: The Round Shells To create the round shell, roll out a tapered rope about 4 inches long (image 1). Use water to make sure it s attached as you roll the rope on a flat surface like a pinwheel. Cut the end of the rope flat; gently press with the small end of the dogbone tool to hollow it (image 6).

41 Princess: The Coral To create the coral use the grooved cone tool and a small ball of white sugar paste, gently press to create the grooves.

46 Cheeky: The Body To make the body, take the ball of sugar paste in the palms of your hands and roll it into an oval shape (image 2). Place your finger in the middle of the oval and gently roll back and forth to create an indent (image 3, 4). Stand the body up and flatten the bottom. Roll a small sausage shape from the beige sugar paste flatten gently with your finger and attach it to the tummy with a little bit of water (image 7, 8, 9).

47 Cheeky: The Back Legs & The Paws To shape the legs roll the ball of orange sugar paste to a tapered sausage shape (image 1). Flatten the top part and attach to the body with a little bit of water (image 3). To make the paw roll the ball of beige sugar paste to a teardrop shape and gently flatten. Mark the toes with the needle tool (image 2, 7). To make the toes and finish up the paw, roll three small dots of pink sugar paste and one slightly larger dot and attach with a little bit of water (image 5, 6). *To make the dots the same size use the piping tip 7 and 12

48 Cheeky: The Front Legs For the front legs roll a sausage shape from the orange sugar paste flatten the top part a little bit. Attach the bottom end to the paw with a little bit of water (image 1, 2). Apply water with the brush on the side of the tummy and attach the front legs (image 3, 5). Insert a wet toothpick in the middle of the body to support the head (image 6, 7).

49 Cheeky: The Head To make the head, roll a ball of orange sugar paste and mark the placements for the eyes with the back end of the small stick tool just above the middle of the face (image 1). From the little balls of beige sugar paste, make teardrop shapes flatten them gently with your finger and make marks with the knife tool (image 2). Attach them with a dab of water on both sides on the bottom of the face. For the muzzle roll a small ball of beige sugar paste into an oval shape. Make a mark with the knife tool in the middle of the muzzle (image 4). Attach the muzzle with a little bit of water on top of the whiskers (image 6). Mark the placement for the nose with the back end of the stick tool (image 8). For the mouth, roll a small sausage shape from the beige sugar paste and bend it almost into a "U" shape. Attach with a dab of water under the muzzle (image 6, 7).

50 Cheeky: The Eyes, The Nose & The Tongue For the nose, take a small ball of the orange sugar paste and shape it to a triangle and attach with a little bit of water, using the needle tool finish up the nose and mark the whiskers (image 3). To make the eye, roll a small ball from the white sugar paste and attach it with water into the eye socket. Roll a tiny dot from the blue sugar paste and attach it with water to the bottom of the eyes. To make the tongue, roll a small piece of pink sugar paste to a teardrop shape, flatten and attach with water (image 6).

51 Cheeky: The Ears, The Hair & The Spots To form the ears, roll a small teardrop shape from the orange sugar paste. Gently press with the small end of the dogbone tool to scoop it (image 1). Using the beige sugar paste, form smaller teardrops and flatten gently pressing with your finger and attach with water (image 2). From the pink sugar paste, make even smaller teardrop shape flatten and attach with a dab of water (image 3). Cut the ends of the ears to make them flat and attach them to the head with water (image 5). To create the hair, roll teardrop shapes from the orange sugar paste and apply water to the top of the head. Arrange the hair on the wet surface (image 6). To create the spots roll small balls and flatten. Create holes on some of them by gently holding it with your finger as you making small movements with the thin part of the veining tool in the middle of the spot (image 7). Attach them with a dab of water. *The spots could be cut with piping tips.

52 Cheeky: The Tail & The Spots To make the tail, roll about an inch long rope from the orange sugar paste. To finish it up, attach a small piece from the beige sugar place to the end of the tail with water (image 2, 3). Mark the placements for the tail with the back end of the small stick tool (image 1). Attach the spots all over the body the, legs, the head and the tail with a little bit of water (image 2). Secure the head by applying a little bit of water around the toothpick (image 4). Let the tail dry until holds its shape and then attach it to the body with water (image 3).

53 Cheeky: Plants To make the plants, roll small rope shapes from different sized balls from the green sugar paste. Using the big stick roll them out. Draw a line in the middle of the leaf with the pointy end of the stick tool (image 2). To finish up, use the straight edge of the quilting tool to make small cuttings in both sides towards the middle of the leaf (image 4). For a more realistic look, place them on the aluminum foil and let them dry completely.

54 Cheeky: Assembly To assemble the plant apply a little bit of water on a rock and attach the leaves. *Insert a toothpick into the rock to support the leave if needed.

55 Cheeky: Butterfly To make the butterfly we are using a silicone mold and different colors of sugar paste. Roll the colors of your sugar into small balls and then into small ropes and dust the silicone mold with your dusting pouch to prevent from sticking (image 1). Once you fill the mold, press with your finger to make sure that the sugar paste makes good contact with the silicone mold. Clean up the edges of the butterfly so there is no excess sugar paste (image 6). To remove the butterfly from the silicone mold gently bend the mold to release the butterfly. Make an "M" shape from aluminum foil, dust it with the dusting pouch and leave the butterfly there to dry (image 4).

56 Rocks For the rocks take a small amount of the black or brown sugar paste and mix with white sugar paste. Mix them together but leave it marble. Roll different sizes balls and pinch them gently to shape small rocks (image 5, 6). Move them to the pre- dusted board and let them dry overnight.

61 Sparks: The Body To make the body, take the ball of yellow sugar paste in the palms of your hands and roll it into an oval shape. Place your finger in the middle of the oval and roll back and forth to make a small indent (image 2, 3) and stand up the body (image 4). Insert a damp toothpick in the center (image 5, 6).

62 Sparks: The Back Legs To make the legs roll a tapered sausage shape from the yellow sugar paste (image 1, 2). Make both legs at the same time, to ensure that they are the same size (image 3). Flatten the top part of the legs by gently pressing with your finger and attach to each site of the bottom part of the body with a little bit of water (image 7). To make the paws roll a teardrop shape. Mark the toes by holding the knife tool vertically in front of the paw to make indents (image 4). Using the small end of the dogbone tool make an indent (image 5). To finish up the paws, turn them upside down and gently press to mark the toes with the back of the small stick tool (image 6). Flatten the end of the legs and attach the paws with water (image 8). Mark the placement for the tail with the back of the small stick tool (image 10).

63 Sparks: Front Legs To shape the front legs, roll the ball into a tapered sausage shape and flatten the top (image 1, 3). To make the paws for the front legs, make a teardrop shape from the beige sugar paste and mark the toes with the knife tool. Flatten the bottom of the front legs and attach to the paws with a little bit of water (image 2). Paint a line with water on each side of the tummy and attach the front legs (image 3, 4). For the tail, roll a rope about an inch and a half long from the yellow sugar paste. To make the brush of the tail, roll six small teardrop shapes (image 6) from the brown sugar paste and attach to the end of the tail with a dab of water (image 7). Set aside to dry.

64 Sparks: Chest Mane & The Head To finish the body, flatten a small ball of beige sugar paste or roll it out with the stick tool. Using a small pair of scissors cut out a small V shapes around the sides, leaving the top flat (image 3). Paint the chest area of the lion with water and gently attach to the chest (image 4). Attach the tail with a dab of water (image 1). To shape the head, use the small stick tool mark a line just above the middle of the head (image 7). With the back of the stick tool, make the holes for the eye sockets (image 8).

65 Sparks: The Head For the muzzle, flatten the small ball of beige sugar paste and form an oval shape (image 1, 2). Cut an opening for the mouth. Mark a line from the middle of the mouth up and attach it underneath the eye sockets on the bottom half of the face with water (image 3, 4). With the back of the stick tool, mark the placement for the nose (image 5). Open up the mouth with the knife tool to make space for the tongue (image 6).

66 Sparks: The Tongue, The Nose And The Eyes To make the nose, shape a small triangle from the brown sugar paste and attach with water (image 1). Use the needle tool to mark the nostrils (image 4). For the tongue, roll a small teardrop shape from the pink sugar paste. Press with your finger to flatten. Mark a line in the center of the tongue, and attach to the mouth with a little bit of water (image 3). Use the needle tool to mark the whiskers. For the eyes, roll two small balls from the white sugar paste and two even smaller balls from the blue sugar paste. Apply water into the eye sockets and add the white balls of sugar paste. Use a bit of water on the bottom right corners of the eyes and add the small blue dots to finish the eyes (image 7).

67 Sparks: The Ears & The Mane To form the ears roll a small teardrop shape from the yellow sugar paste. Gently press with the small end of the bone tool to scoop it (image 1). From the pink sugar paste, make a small teardrop shape and flatten with your finger. Paint a little bit of water on the yellow part of the ear and place the pink teardrop on top. Gently press it with the small end of the dogbone tool to scoop it (image 2). Attach the ears to the head with a dab of water (image 5). Using the brown sugar paste make different sized balls and roll them into teardrop shapes. Start with painting the top of the head with water and work your way around the face. Keep adding them until satisfied with the look.

68 Sparks: Back Of The Head & The Tail Cover the back of the head by starting from the bottom and working your way up, mixing the size of the teardrop shapes for more natural look. Attach the tail with a little bit of water and let it rest on the surface. *To have the tail up it has to be completely dry before attaching to the body.

69 The Twig To make a twig, start with four different sized balls from the brown sugar paste and roll them into ropes that are different size and thickness (image 1, 2). Twist and bend them. Attach them with a dab of water (image 4). Make lines and holes with the needle tool for more natural look. Using aluminum foil for support let them dry (image 7).

70 The Blue Birdy From the blue sugar paste, using the chart from image 1, measure all the parts of the bird. To form the body make a teardrop shape, pinch and push the tail of the shape up. Attach the head to the body with a little bit of water. To make the beak, make a small cut halfway to the ball with the knife tool (image 2). For the wings, roll the ball into a teardrop shape and flatten with your finger and make small cuts with the straight edge of the quilting tool. With the knife tool press lightly to make some indentations on the wings to represent feathers (image 3). To create the tail, roll three teardrop shapes and attach them in a cluster with a little bit of water then attach to the body (image 6, 7). Mark the eyes with the stick tool (image 3). Attach the eyes, the beak, and the wings with a dab of water.

74 Chance: The Body & The Legs For the body, roll a pear shape. Place your finger in the middle of the body and roll back and forth to make an indent (image 2). To make the front legs, roll the ball to a tapered sausage shape (image 4). To shape the back legs, roll the ball to a tapered sausage shape and flatten the top part (image 4). Make the paws by rolling a teardrop shape from the white sugar paste, mark the toes with the knife tool. Mark the place for the leg with the small side of the ball tool (image 5). Attach the paws to the back legs with a little bit of water (image 6). Paint a line on each side of the body and attach the back legs (image 7).

75 Chance: Assembly Assemble the body on the cake board and leave it there to dry. Gently press the top of the front legs with the small end of the ball tool to flatten so they fit nicely (image 1). Paint the top part of the front legs with a dab of water and place them underneath the narrow part of the body (image 2, 3). Attach the paws to the front legs with water. Mark the placement for the tail with the back of the stick tool (image 4). Gently press with the ball tool to make an indent for the head (image 5). Break a small piece of toothpick paint it with water.

76 Chance: The Head Insert the wet toothpick in the flat part in front of the body (image 1). To shape the head, use the small stick tool to mark a line just above the middle of the face (image 6). For the muzzle, roll the little ball of white sugar paste to an oval shape and flatten (image 3). Using the knife tool, mark a vertical line in the middle of the muzzle (image 4). Create a little opening for the mouth by pushing the needle tool from the bottom of the muzzle (image 5). Attach it with water just underneath the line on the lower half of the face (image 8, 9). Mark the placement for the nose with the small stick tool (image 7).

77 Chance: The Nose & The Mouth Make a triangle shape from the brown sugar paste for the nose and attach with water (image 1). Using the needle tool, mark the whiskers and the nostrils (image 2). To finish the mouth, roll a small rope from the white sugar paste, bend it almost to a U shape (image 4) and attach under the muzzle with a dab of water (image 5). For the tongue, roll a small teardrop shape from the pink sugar paste. Press with your finger to flatten (image 6). Attach with a little bit of water, mark a line in the center of the tongue with the knife tool (image 7, 8).

78 Chance: The Ears To form the ears, roll a small teardrop shape from the orange sugar paste. Gently press with the small end of the dogbone tool to scoop the ear (image 1). From the white sugar paste, make a smaller teardrop shape and flatten with your finger. Paint a little bit of water on the orange part of the ear and place the white teardrop on top. Gently press it with the small end of the dogbone tool to scoop it (image 1, 2). Attach the ears to the head with a dab of water and press with the back of the stick tool to secure the ear in place (image 2, 3). With the back of the stick tool, make the holes for the eye sockets (image 5). Roll the eyes from white sugar paste attach with water and finish them up with small dots from the blue sugar paste (image 4, 6).

79 Chance: The Spots To make the tail, roll a rope from the orange sugar paste that is slightly longer than 1- inch. To finish it up, attach a small piece of the brown sugar place to the end of the tail with water (image 5, 6). To create the stripes, make different sized balls, roll them into ropes and flatten them. Make V shape cuts on some of the stripes and attach to the body, the legs, and the tail. Attach the head to the body and arrange the stripes on the face and the back of the head. Allow the tail dry and attach with water (image 7).

81 Fern When using silicone molds, it s important to dust the cavities before applying the sugar paste to prevent from sticking (image 1). Fill up the shape with the desired color of sugar paste and press firmly. Making sure that the sugar paste is in good contact with the mold (image 2, 3). Take off the excess sugar paste and clean the edges (image 4). Bend the mold to open and release the shape (image 5). The silicon molds are very flexible and easy to bend. If using plastic or any hard mold that is not flexible and it s challenging to take the shape out, freezing it for few minutes will help to pop it out quickly without stretching or breaking. All the shapes could be dried flat or on drying forms. For a more natural look of the leaves, aluminum foil is a great tool to use (image 7). After the shape is dry, gently brush off any leftover from the dusting and arrange as desired.

82 The Ladybug For the body of the Ladybug, roll an oval shape of the red sugar paste. Mark the middle of the body with the knife tool to make a small indent (image 2). Roll about an inch long tiny rope from the black sugar paste. Paint a line in the middle of the body with water and attach the black rope (image 3, 4). Picking up small pieces could be challenging, using the needle tool is handy. Attach the head with a dab of water, and arrange the spots with the wet brush (image 5, 6).

83 The Ladybug 2 Roll two small eyes from the white sugar paste and attach with water (image 1, 2). For the antennas, roll two tiny teardrop shapes from the black sugar paste, pick them up with the needle tool and attach with water (image 3, 4, 5). The mouth is just a little dot from the red sugar paste, attach to the face and make a mark with the knife tool to create the lips (image 6, 7, 8). For the legs roll six small teardrop shapes from the black sugar paste and attach three on each site of the Ladybug (image 10). To finish up the eyes, once they are dry, gently make a dot with the black Food- Writer (image 9).

84 Tree Trunk To create the marble look for the tree trunk, mix brown and beige sugar paste until the desired color is achieved (image 1, 2, 3). Make two cuts with the knife tool for the branches and gently roll to round them up. Pinch the base of the trunk and make three cuts to shape the roots (image 5). Insert a wet toothpick for support (image 6, 7, 8, 9).

85 The Tree Crown Use the needle tool to texture the tree trunk (image 4). For the crown of the tree, roll three different sized balls from the green sugar paste (image 1). Crumple a piece of aluminum foil and gently press it into the crown to create the texture (image 2). Hollow them by gently pulling the edges (image 6) so they ll hang naturally from the branches and attach them with a little bit of water (image 3).
