1 World Biodiversity Day Target audience (age): Ensino Fundamental 1 Aims: get familiar with the World Biodiversity Day (May 22 nd ), its celebration and food vocabulary related to the topic through CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning in Science). Duration: min. Organization: group work Materials: internet access, worksheets, cardboards, pencils, markers, examples of fruit and vegetables (see images below) Preparation: Information about biodiversity: Biodiversity is the degree of variation of life. It can refer to genetic variation, species variation, or ecosystem variation within an area, biome or planet. Choose one of the videos you checked during preparation and play it to the group. Ask students how they would contribute to biodiversity and how they would like to celebrate the World Biodiversity Day. Divide students into small groups and explain they are going to play a game about food. Distribute the worksheets and explain they are supposed to classify the food according to the categories in the worksheet. Use the pictures to introduce words they don t know. Check which group got more answers correct and solve any vocabulary doubts they might still have. Survey: have students check these links to find out the best time to buy certain fruit and vegetables:
