Very pyramidal and tight. Can grow 30cm a year. Nice glossy green needles. Large 150cm 5 Abies balsamea Nana An old dwarf form that is usually round. Growth rate 2 inches per year. Extremely hardy. Tolerates acidic soils. Dwarf 60cm 3 Abies cilicica Spring Grove A witches broom found in Ohio I believe. Very dense slow growing. Globose. Extremely rare. Dwarf 50cm 5B Abies concolor Candicans Probably the bluest form of Silver fir. Very large blue needles. Can grow in an open form when young. Large 175cm 4 Powder Abies concolor Compacta A dwarf upright pyramid. Tight growing, large needled. Intermediate 120cm 4 Silver Abies concolor Conica Very dwarf and tight growing. Upright growing. Intermediate 100cm 4 / Abies concolor Gable s Weeping A semi weeping form. Very large needles. Becomes quite wide. Intermediate 120cm 4 Abies fraseri Prostrata A more or less spreading dwarf. Will become much wider than high. Dwarf 80cm 5 Abies fraseri Vasti Extremely small, short-needled plant. This is a rockery plant. Growth rate 2-4cm per year. Very, very rare. Miniature 30cm 5 Abies holophylla The Manchurian Fir can grow up to 100. Long needled, rare in cultivation. Absolutely beautiful. Very hardy. Large 175cm 4 Abies homolepsis Umbellata The Nikko Fir. Becomes a tall tree. Another rare plant in cultivation. Large 175cm 5 Medium Abies koreana Aurea Abies koreana Glauca One of the prettiest golden firs in cultivation. New growth lime green to soft yellow. Colour is consistent year round. Slow growing. Purple cones make a nice contrast. A very rare version of the Korean Fir. Somewhat globose until a leader develops becoming a pyramidal tree. Intermediate 150cm 5 Intermediate 150cm 5 Soft Yellow Silveryblue

3 Abies koreana Carpet Abies koreana Silberlocke Abies koreana Silver Show Grows perfectly round and will not likely pass 60cm in height. A very interesting plant for the garden where it can be appreciated. Probably the best-known selection of Korean Fir. Its twisted needles exposing the white stomates make this plant highly popular. Densely pyramidal over time. Intermediate 150cm 5 Light White and White A somewhat faster and more pyramidal version of Silberlocke. Growth rate around 10 to 15cm per year. Intermediate 150cm 5 and Abies lasiocarpa Compacta A rich green colour on a compact pyramidal form. Not very common but deserving in any garden situation. Intermediate 150cm 4 Abies lasiocarpa Glauca Compacta A classic well-known version of the Rocky Mountain Fir. Soft Needled and dense growing. Good selection for the larger rock garden. Intermediate 150cm 4 Powder Abies lasiocarpa Globe A densely globose selection mostly likely from a witches broom. Very slow growing. 5cm per year. Dwarf 80cm 4 Abies nordmandiana Fastigiata A very slowing growing fastigate form of the Nikko Fir. It is extremely rare with only a few specimens in the world. Cypress / False Cypress nootkatensis Aureovariegata nootkatensis Glauca nootkatensis Glauca Compacta nootkatensis Glauca Pendula nootkatensis Gracilis nootkatensis Arrow nootkatensis Lutea Beautiful rare selection of Alaskan Cedar with splashes of yellow throughout. Growth rate about 15-20cm per year. Full and vigorous A popular variety that grows tightly pyramidal. New growth has a bluish colour before turning a rich dark green. Another very rare form that grows squatly pyramidal to 10 feet. Very hard to find cultivar. Fast growing weeping form that keeps its central leader. Similar to Pendula but needles much finer. A semi dwarf form. Grows very compact needles are unlike other cultivars. Grows to 20 feet. Fast growing form that is very narrow Nearly all branches hang straight down. Grows to 30 feet. A broadly conical tree with yellow on green throughout. Grows to 25ft. Makes a striking specimen and lights up a dark corner of the garden. Becomes a focal in any garden. This form is much fuller than Pendula. They are often sold as the same plant but they are distinctly different. Unbelievable narrow form. Grows to 30 feet however many plants don t grow any wider than a foot or two. Strictly pendulous. Rare! A nice variegated form that is broadly pyramidal. Variegation is spread throughout the entire tree. Slower growing to 20 feet. Of the larger growing Hinokis this one is likely the brightest yellow of them all. Can burn in hot dry sites. Grows 10-15cm per year. A fairly fast growing selection with fern like leaves. Can grow as a Shrub. Mature at 15 feet. Leaves are long and contorted. Has golden streaks throughout the fasciations. Very interesting new form. Can be a fairly large tree over of time. Horizontal branching Broadly conical with interesting netted foliage. Grows 10cm per year. A dwarf conical plant to 4 feet over time. Quite slow growing. Very thin-leaved shrub type. Branches are often faciated. The most common and popular Hinoki. Reliably dwarf. Interesting juvenile foliaged shrub with blue and green mixed throughout. Mature at 6 feet. Thick leaves that often have fasciations. Grows about 5 to 10 cm per year. Usually in the form of a shrub. Upright to 25 feet. Similar to Gracilis but more compact. Rare! Fine lacy foliage on a squatly pyramidal bush to 10 feet. Quite hardy Looks nice around water. A nice spreading larch with new growth blue. Bright reddish stems also stand out on this plant. Grows about 5-10cm per year. A dwarf version of Diana. Very contorted branching. Large 250cm 5 Super hardy spreading type like a juniper with Thuja foliage. Nice plum colour in winter. Grows 6 inches a year. Tolerates shade. No blight. Dwarf 100cm 2

9 Spruce Aarburg A very fast growing Norway. Maintains a leader with all side branches hanging straight down. Intermediate 200cm 3 Acrocona Arnold s Dwarf Asselyn Compact Usually grows in a mound or shrub. Every spring bright red cones form on the end of most branches. Nice little pyramid. Very tight. Never needs pruning. From the Arnold Arboretum. Grows about 10cm a year. Another compact upright selection. Very similar to Ohlendorfii but final height is shorter. Intermediate 150cm 3 Dwarf 100cm 3 Intermediate 120cm 3 Aurea A large growing upright. Its spring colour is amazing yellow later turning green with some yellow frosting the top of the needles. Large 250cm 4 Gold / Berry Gardens Fast Somewhat columnar variety with congested growth. Interesting plant. Can grow 30cm a year. Intermediate 120cm 3 Essentially the same plant as above but slower Berry Gardens Slow growing often globose. Dwarf 100cm 3 Clanbrassiliana Cranstonii Cuppressina Cy s Wonder Upright conical pyramid. One of the first Norway varieties introduced in the 1700 s. The original is still alive in Ireland. 4 inches a year. Fast growing snake like tree. Tends to only develop terminal branches. Very dramatic looking. A nice narrow columnar selection. Grows to 30cm but only 4 feet wide. Great plant for areas with little room. Very dense globose plant. Often with tufted branches. Dwarf 120cm 3 Large 200cm 3 Large 200cm 3 Dwarf 80cm 3 Diffusa Old cultivar eventually becoming swatly pyramidal. Grows about 10cm a year. Dwarf 100cm 3 Dubois A very slow growing plant. Round ball needs to be in a rock garden or trough garden. Hard to propagate. Miniature 50cm 3 Echiniformis The Hedge Hog spruce. Grows into a round spiny ball. Quite rare now. Dwarf 80cm 3

10 Elegantissima A fairly narrow growing pyramid. Spring growth is very interesting with its bright yellow in spring fading to a whitish green. Good for contrast. Intermediate 175cm 3 Yellow / Farnsburg A dwarf weeping selection only growing 10cm a year. A better solution where room is limited. Dwarf 100cm 3 Filicoides The needles on this Norway are extremely short and dark green. Very interesting texture. Intermediate 100cm 3 Formanek A dwarf spreading or weeping tree if staked. Slow growing interesting Branching habit. Dwarf 100cm 3 Frohburg An intermediate weeping tree if staked the first couple of years. A seedling of Inversa. Dwarf 100cm 3 Globosa A rather rare selection on the Norway spruce. Very dense. Less than 10cm per year. Dwarf 100cm 3 Hillside Upright A dwarf upright with extremely dark green needles and contorted branches. Unusual growth habit. Intermediate 120cm 3 Humilis Inversa Kellerman s Little Gem Little Joe A dwarf eventually conical plant. Some years may have accelerated growth. Fast growing tree with a straight leader and all side branches pendulous. Good plant for areas that have the room. A flat round spreading plant. Leaves are a nice turquoise colour. Will always be limited due to its slow growth. Less than 10cm a year. One of the most common dwarf Norway varieties. Round ball and dense growing. Was a witches broom found on Nidiformis. A dense conical form. Reminds me of an Alberta Spruce but doesn t suffer windburn. Dwarf 100cm 3 Intermediate 175cm 3 Dwarf 60cm 3 Dwarf 80cm 3 Dwarf 120cm 3 Merkii A globose dwarf. Will be 4 x4 feet in about 12-15years. Dwarf 100cm 3 Nana Nidiformis An almost lost cultivar. Very, very slow growing. 30- year-old specimens reach 4 feet. Very popular selection called the Bird s Nest Spruce. If grafted grows more upright than propagated with cuttings. Dwarf 100cm 3 Dwarf 120cm 3 Ohlendorffi A conical upright well known in the trade. Can grow a foot a year once established. Intermediate 120cm 3

11 Parsonii A fuzzy round ball. Only grows 5cm a year. Dwarf 80cm 3 Pine Glen Another witches broom from Nidiformis. Even slower growing than Little Gem. Miniature 50cm 3 Pendula A creeping selection if not staked. Makes an excellent ground cover. Intermediate 120cm 3 Pendula Major A selection that seems to hug the ground even more so than Pendula. Slower growing than Pendula too. Intermediate 100cm 3 Repens Gold A sport from Repens. Grows like its parent. Can burn in full sun. Dwarf 80cm 3 Gold Perry s Gold Stunning gold growth on conical dwarf before turning green. Extremely rare. Limited. Dwarf 100cm 4 Gold / Procumbens Grows like Nidiformis only a bit large and faster growing. Dwarf 100cm 3 Pygmae A very old slow growing selection. Some years have erratic growth. Miniature 80cm 3 Pyramidata Slow growing, tight pyramidal plant. Grows about 10cm a year. Dwarf 100cm 3 Regina Pendula Dwarf weeping selection that comes from Vancouver I believe. Dwarf 100cm 3 Remontii Slower growing conical up to 15cm a year. Old cultivar. Dwarf 100cm 3 Spicata Rubra The Dragon s Fire Spruce. An upright tree with stunning scarlet Spring colour before changing to green. Very unusual for any conifer. Large 120cm 3 Red / Tabulaformis Mounding form of this very old selection. Can get to 8 feet. Dwarf 100cm 3 Tompa Super slow growing round ball with interesting needles. Very rare. Miniature 50cm 3 Vasser s Broom A strong spreading shrub. green needles. Dwarf 120cm 3 Vilminalis Large growing, with branchlets on side branches very pendulous. Large 175cm 3

Dwarf 120cm 3 Picea asperata Nana An extremely rare dwarf of blue/green needles. Grows about 10cm a year. Dwarf 100cm 6 Bluish Picea austromanchurica A rare subspecies possibly of Picea obovata. Extremely hardy. Large 150cm 3 Picea bicolor Howell s Tigertail Beautiful tri-coloured selection often growing very wide. Needles are silver underneath with orange stems. Intermediate 120cm 5 / Silver Picea bicolor Prostrata Flat globose dwarf. Nice colour works well with other plants. Picea glauca albertina Sander s A blue Alberta spruce. Grows like the species. Dwarf 100cm 3 Picea glauca Ducharme Ultra small. Tiny little bundle of needles. Good for a pot or trough. Miniature 40cm 3 Picea glauca Fort Ann A snake white spruce. Very few side branches. Just bizarre. Intermediate 175cm 3 Bluish Picea glauca Heartland Broom Another extremely slow growing variety. Dwarf 50cm 3 Picea glauca Hudsonii Probably the bluest form of white spruce. Rivals some Colorado varieties. Quite rare. Large 175cm 3 Gray Picea glauca (Indian Trail) A selection that is gray / green in summer and bright gold in winter. Never offered in North America until now. Large 150cm 3 / Gold Picea glauca (Little Jeffery) Very tight eventually conical white spruce. Definitely a rock garden candidate. Miniature 60cm 3 Picea koyamai Pyramidal form to 30 feet. A spruce from Japan where only a few hundred trees exist. Large 150cm 3 Picea likiangensis var. Purpurea Purple coned Chinese spruce. Cones turn bright red before changing to purple. Very short needled. Large 150cm 3 Picea mariana Aureovariegata A black spruce with blue needles and gold over the top of the branches. Intermediate 100cm 5 Picea omorika Bruns Superb form of Serbian spruce. Very graceful branching sweeping upwards at the tips. Large 120cm 5 Picea omorika Bruns Pendula The most sought after Serbian weeping spruce. It is the narrowest form available in blue and silver. Intermediate 120cm 5 Picea omorika Kuck s Weeping A weeping form that needs to be staked for height. Very rare still. / Picea omorika Nana A popular globe that will form a leader. A great garden plant. Dwarf 120cm 5 Picea omorika Pendula An old form that has very pendulous branching with the tips sweeping slightly upwards. Intermediate 120cm 5 Picea X Mariorika Machala Nice hybrid that stays globose. Needles have a striking colour. Dwarf 90cm 5 Picea orientalis Aurea Spring growth a bright yellow before turning to dark green. A light golden sheen may persist all year. Large 120cm 5 Yellow / Picea orientalis Aurea Spicata Another beautiful spring coloured tree with its bright lemon yellow spring growth. Turns dark green later. Very dense grower. Slower than other varieties. A symmetrical selection from Iseli. Not a dwarf, as many think. Grows to 30 feet. Classic and well known garden conifer. Grafted plants tend to form a Leader. Often grafted as standards. A little known conical plant. Slow growing. Great rock garden plant. Rare. Globose and extremely slow growing. Dense little ball. Very interesting. Maybe the same as Globe. My plants are to young to tell if they will become more conical over time. Good plant for where blue is needed but little space available. Upright tree with needles decreasing along the length of new growth. Large 175cm 3 Nana Glauca Pendula Porcupine Procumbens Irregular growth, which will form a leader over time. Rare plant seldom found outside arboretums. An old weeping variety. Needs to be staked to for height. Becomes a striking specimen in time. Irregular upright. Leaves bright blue. Only grows 2 inches per year. A weeping type that mounds or can be staked. Very effective draped over walls or rocks. Dwarf 60cm 3 Intermediate 120cm 3 Dwarf 80cm 3 Dwarf 100cm 3 Prostrata St. Mary s Broom Sunshine A true creeping form. Doesn t have a tendency to form a leader. Makes a very interesting ground cover. This is the most popular of the miniature type brooms on the market Today. Mounds, very tight and compact.
