In view of likely occurrence of isolated thunder squall during next 48 hours, farmers are advised to provide support to the standing crops to avoid lodging and store the harvested crops at safer places. In Jharkhand prepare nursery bed for long duration rice varieties just after receiving 1st light rain. Timely transplanted rice is at maturity stage. Try to harvest the crop before the advance of monsoon in South Eastern Plateau Zone of Jharkhand. Prepare the land for sowing/transplanting of rainy season vegetables like Bhindi, Bean, Tomato, French bean, Cauliflower, Cabbage etc. and sowing of ginger/ turmeric crops may be finished within 4 days, so that all the seeds should be germinated completely before onset of monsoon, otherwise stagnation of water will be harmful to the tubers/seeds in Western Plateau Zone of Jharkhand. Farmers in North Central Plateau Zone of Orissa are advised to undertake summer ploughing of land at places receiving rainfall, to reduce weed infestation, to destroy eggs and larvae of insects and to increase soil profile recharge. In Orissa, the weather is optimum for Rice sowing in deep submerged low land. Go for sowing of direct deeded rice. Complete direct sowing by June 1 st week in low land. Before sowing, treat the seeds with 3 gm Tiram or 1.5 gm Topsin-M/kg seeds. Farmers in West Bengal are advised to undertake field preparation and sowing of jute, planting of ginger, turmeric and arum, nursery sowing of aus rice, nursery bed preparation of aman rice and land preparation of kharif rice, pigeon pea. Suitable varieties of the crops for sowing or transplanting are mentioned in Annexure II. Tea may be infested by mite in Hill Zone of West Bengal, spray with 1ml/litre of water. Drainage channels are to be maintained. In the present weather situation, attack of fruit-rot due to fungus may be high in New Alluvial Zone of West Bengal. Remove the infected fruits from the land. Spray Blitox (4 gm per lt) or Blue-copper oxide. In case of other vegetables like sweet-gourd, attack of powdery mildew may be seen. Keep vigilance. Stem borer attack may be dominant in this weather condition in brinjal, apply Kartap or Padan (@1 gm/ lt of water). In this weather condition fruit and shoot borer maybe problem for brinjal in Terai Zone of West Bengal, spray Kartap phytochloride 1gm/lt of water. To manage mite in chilli, spray ml/lt of water. Neck blast may be found in boro rice, spray Bavistin@ 1gm per litre of water or Tricyclazole@0.05%. In North Eastern Coastal Plain Zone in Orissa fruit borer in Brinjal- Spray and Cartap per acre in 200 litre of water or Spintor@3.5ml in 15 litre (Spinosad) of water. Fruit borer in Okra- Spray Carbaryl 4 gm or Caldan 2 gm/litre of water. Undertake plant protection measures after current spells of rain.

9 9 Stages of major crops are mentioned in Annexure I. Animal Husbandry Due to occasional shower for last few days in Coastal Saline Zone of West Bengal there is a chance of fungal diseases in poultry birds.
