Primary School Meals in Hartlepool Spring - Summer 2018

Food for Life Hartlepool School Meals Service are proud to announce, it has achieved the soil associations Food For Life bronze catering mark for primary schools in Hartlepool for the second year running. The Bronze catering mark is an independent verification, backed by an annual inspection, which awards caterers that demonstrates their commitment to ensuring school lunches provided to your children meets the statutory School Food Standards and requires that 75% of the menu is freshly prepared daily, on site, from unprocessed ingredients. This Award is recognised by Ofsted during school inspections as a mark of a Catering service that is committed to providing fresh, sustainable, locally sourced and high quality foods to its clients. This not only ensures your child receives nutritious food but also provides parents with reassurances that their children are being fed responsibly.

Free School Meals All pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are currently entitled to Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) to ensure they receive a hot healthy meal at lunchtime. Parents claiming certain benefits can apply for free school meals for any of their children who are registered at a Hartlepool school and who would normally be at school at lunch time. Please telephone 01429 284188 to apply. Parents of pupils in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 who are in receipt of benefits should also telephone 01429 284188. By claiming your free school meal you are helping your child's school receive funding through Pupil Premium.

Primary School Meals As the main school provider we recognise that we have an important role to play in the future health and well-being of the youngsters of Hartlepool. To help our children to make healthier lunch time choices we have designed a colour coding system which is clearly displayed on the school menus. Children can easily recognise that if they choose a portion from each colour they will be enjoying a well balanced choice each day. Please encourage your child to follow our Colour Code RED BLUE GREEN PINK Protein: chicken, meat, eggs or non-meat options such as; Quorn, cheese or pulses such as kidney beans etc. There are at least 3 choices everyday to choose from. Starchy Carbohydrates: bread, pasta, rice, potatoes etc. There will be 2-3 choices everyday to choose from. Vegetables: carrots, broccoli, swede, cauliflower etc. There will be 2-3 choices everyday to choose from. Desserts: children will have a choice of hot or cold puddings ranging from fruit sponges, yoghurts, flapjacks/tray bakes or fresh fruit/fresh fruit salad. There will be a selection everyday to choose from.
