Here at Café Hollander, we love bier from sourcing unique biers to perfecting the way each is served in the proper glass. In fact, a member of our Brewminati (our team of bier experts) has even been named an Honorary Knight in Belgian s Knighthood of the Brewer s Mashstaff, better known as the Belgian Brewer s Guild. Each year, our Brewminati council combs the breweries, monasteries and cobblestone streets of Europe to meet with the monks, brewmasters and families who have made bier their passion for centuries. We hope you enjoy tasting these unique biers as much as we enjoyed discovering them. The shape and size of a glass can drastically alter the appearance, aroma and taste of a bier, which is why we go through great lengths to import the proper glass supplied by the brewers of the biers we carry. Just check out the racks of glasses behind our bar to see for yourself. Now it s time to choose a bier and raise a (proper) glass! If you re not accustomed to Belgian biers, you may be surprised by the amount of head with which your bier is served. A large portion of the experience of Belgian biers is olfactory and the flavor of the bier is greatly impacted by what your nose is doing at the time of quaffing. Please realize this is how the brewer intended the bier to be served and we go through great lengths to make each pour as proper as possible. Many of the specialty biers we carry are well over 10% alcohol and are therefore poured in smaller quantities than the more sessionable biers you may be used to. This is why we include pour-sizes on our menus so you can be assured that your pour is intentional. Many of our imported glasses even feature pour lines that indicate where the liquid portion of the bier should be! A collaboration with Brouwerij The Musketeers in Ursel, Belgium. 33CL $7 / CARAFE $22 HIGH SPEED WIT 5% 6 ERTVELDE, BELGIUM: From our friends at Brouwerij Van Steenberge, this robust and round witbier tastes of fresh orange, lemon, and coriander. Has a bit of creaminess and just the right amount of zing. This is, truly, the witbier all other witbiers aspire to be. 25CL $5 / 50CL $7.5 / CARAFE $12 TANDEM DUBBEL 7% 6 ERTVELDE, BELGIUM: A collaboration with Brouwerij Van Steenberge. Pours a rich chocolate brown with fine carbonation and flavors of malt, tart raisins, plums, cocoa, and caramel. Warms in the end, finishing creamy and rich. 30CL $7 / CARAFE $18 CENTRA AL QUADDER BOURBON BARREL AGED 10% 6 AMHERST, WI: Central Waters took our Quadder and tucked it into bourbon barrels for a nice long hibernation. It woke up sexy and complex, with notes of vanilla, oak, dark, rich fruit, mahogany and leather. Frankly, there just aren't enough "o's" in smooth to do it justice. 25CL $7.5 / CARAFE $17 SEASONAL SAISON SERIES SPRING % 6 CHICAGO, IL: We're so grateful to our friends at Whiner Beer Company for this expertly dry-hopped, peach-perfect addition to our collaborative Saison Series. PIRA AT 10.5% ERTVELDE, BELGIUM: A well-hopped Belgian strong golden ale with a slight honey sweetness, faint citrusy hops, and notes of fig, caramel, and juicy golden raisins. Fabulous advice, but our Madison friends were fresh out of those ingredients, so instead they used plenty of mango, pineapple, and blackberry in this irresistable rendition of their famous, hoppy delight. You found it! 30CL $6 / CARAFE $16 RAISED GRAIN "OUTSIDE THE GATE" IRISH STOUT 4.3% 6 WAUKESHA, WI Waukesha tips her hat to Dublin's most famous brew in this exlusive, light but roasty Irish style stout. It may not be brewed behind St. James' Gate, but it's every bit as smooth, creamy and robust. 30CL $6 / CARAFE $16 HOUBLON CHOUFFE 9% ACHOUFFE, BELGIUM: The Chouffe gnomes may be little, but they have big personalities and infinite tricks. This Belgian brew combines three American and European hop varieties with Belgian yeasts to create a cross between a double IPA and a Belgian Tripel. This American version contains no orange peel or coriander, but that doesn t mean it s at all lacking in the spicy citrus bouquet department. A healthy dose of hops lends a unique, refreshing finish. 44CL $6 ST. BERNARDUS ABT 12 10% WATOU, BELGIUM: Really, truly, one of the of the best biers in the world. A clone and yeast cousin of an extremely rare Trappist bier not exported to the US, this is one to savor.
