Two funerals and a wedding sandwiched between two surgeries and a birthday party. As I left the funeral home to attend a birthday party, I was reminded that we, as God s people, are to weep with those who weep and rejoice with those who rejoice. What a privilege to be able to be a part of people s lives and to share the love of God no matter the circumstances, because the love of God is appropriate for any situation. I Corinthians 15:58 promises us that it will not be without effect: Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. I m so blessed to be a part of a church that believes and practices this truth. Individually in personal discipleship and evangelism and collectively through giving sacrificially to missions. In closing, thank you for all you do sharing the love of Christ and weeping with those who weep and rejoicing with those who rejoice! Bro. 2 FROM OUR YOUTH PASTOR Along a riverside, you might see a multitude of different plants and creatures. Trees stand near the banks stretching out their roots to draw from the precious source of life. Grass, along the edge of the water, draws up moisture and covers the ground. The deer live their lives close enough to the water to return for a drink at the end of the day. The little squirrels like to build their nests within sight of a river so they can come to the water s edge in the heat of the day. But, if you ll look closely, past the ripples on top of the flowing waters, you will see a creature that does not simply visit the life source. The fish is different when it comes to the way it depends on the water. Fish cannot go long without being surrounded by their precious water before they begin to dry out and die. As believers, we will find ourselves in this story as one creature or another. Are you like the plants and simply have family roots in God, but haven t fully waded in? Maybe you live near the life source and visit God s Word at the end of the week. I challenge you to not just draw from the greatness and graciousness of God, but to be fully submerged in the wonderful life Christ calls you to. Daily walk with Him. Moment by moment depend upon Him, and you ll find yourself jumping back in every time you stray away for fear you ll dry up and die! Jonathan Miller

4 Be praying for the Southern Ladies Conference coming up in October. This will be the first time that we have hosted this event. I want to encourage our ladies to sign up for the conference. We have some very nice door prizes to be given away. We have two Godly ladies who will be speaking: Rita Sweatt from Amory and Shelly Hollis from the Florence Area. You will be blessed by each of these ladies. So please get registered for it now. Shelly is originally from Beaverton and is married to Timothy Hollis. Rita s husband pastors a Southern Baptist Church in the Amory Area. 4 Upcoming Events Life Chain (Mem. Gardens. Fayette) 2:30 October 1 Friend Day (Morning Service) October 8 12th Annual Southern Ladies Conference October Sincere sympathy is extended to Dakary Miles and family. Dakary s grandmother passed away this past week. Also, to the Whitehead family. Mrs. Edna Mae went to be with Jesus this past week. May you feel the Lord s presence during this time. ************************************************** Thanks to those who helped clear the fellowship hall Sunday night so that the floors can be cleaned and waxed. ************************************************** SPICY-SPICED NUTS 1 1/2 Tbs butter 3/4 tsp gr cumin 1 tbs each white and brown sugar 1 tsp salt 1/8 tsp red pepper 1/8 tsp black pepper 2 cups unsalted nuts (pecans, cashews, and/or peanuts & walnuts) Preheat oven to 300. Line a baking sheet with foil. Melt butter in large sauce pan over med-hi heat. Add everything except the nuts. Cook 4 minutes, stirring constantly until sugars melt. Remove from heat and add nuts stirring until coated. Spread onto foil lined pan & bake for 15 minutes stirring twice. Remove from oven & cool completely. Store in airtight container. May be made a day ahead. (From the cookbook Eat, Drink, & Roll Tide.)

Beef Tender 6-8 servings 1 (4 1/2 lb.) beef tenderloin, trimmed 2 tbs sea salt 1 tbs freshly ground black pepper 3 tbs olive oil 1 tbs chopped garlic 1 tbs dry mustard 1 tbs Worcestershire sauce juice of 1 lemon Rub the tenderloin with the salt and pepper and place in a shallow dish. Combine oil, garlic, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and lemon juice in a small bowl; whisk until well blended and pour over the tenderloin, turning several times to coat. Cover the dish tightly and refrigerate for 1-2 hours. Remove the meat from the marinade and place on the grill; discard the marinade. Cook the meat for 10 minutes on each side; remove it from the grill, wrap it in foil and return it to the grill. Cook for an additional minutes or until desired doneness. Remove the meat from the grill and let it stand for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. (Borrowed from: Eat, Drink, & Roll Tide) Grilled Salmon 2 lbs Salmon fillet 2 peeled red onions 4 tbs olive oil 2 tbs peanut oil 3/4 tsp salt, divided 1/2 tsp ground black pepper, divided Divide the salmon into 6 pieces. Slice the red onions about 1/2 inch thick crosswise. In a shallow dish, mix the oils with 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper. Add onions and turn to coat evenly. Grill for 5 minutes on each side or until soft and starting to brown. Season the salmon with remaining salt and pepper; then brush with the oil mixture. Place on grill for 3 minutes; turn and grill for 3 more minutes. Serve with onions. (From Eat, Drink, & Roll Tide) Hot Dog Chili (for 12 dogs) 2 tbs butter 1/2 cup chopped onion 2 lbs gr. Chuck 1 1/2 tsp chiii powder 1 tsp paprika 1/2 tsp garlic salt 1/2 tsp kosher salt 1/2 tsp pepper 1/8 tsp red pepper Melt butter in large skillet over med high heat; add onion and cook until transparent. Remove onion and set aside. Add gr chuck and cook until brown and crumbled. Add cooked onion & cook for 5 minutes. Add remaining ingred, reduce heat, cover & simmer for 2-3 hrs. Remove and serve hot over hot dogs. May also be eaten with corn chips. (Eat, Drink, & Roll Tide) 5

Give to Jackie and she will see that they are delivered. Also, include your name if you want to be listed as a pin contributor. We will collect until Dec. 1. This project is running 9 months. *************************************************************** *************************************************************** Coconut Pineapple Cake (Eat, Drink, & Roll Tide) 2 eggs, 2 cups sugar 2 cups crushed pineapple 2 cups flour 2 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup butter 1 (5 1/2 oz) can evaporated milk 1 cup coconut 1 cup chopped pecans 1 tsp vanilla 1/2 tsp lemon juice Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour 9 x 13 inch pan. Combine eggs & 2 cups sugar in large bowl; beat until well mixed. Add pineapple and stir to mix. Add flour and baking powder; mix thoroughly. Pour the batter into the pan; bake minutes or until tester comes out clean. Remove from oven. Combine 1 cup sugar, butter, and evap. milk in a saucepan over med. heat; bring to boil, stirring constantly and cook 3 4 minutes. Remove from heat and add coconut, pecans, vanilla, and lemon juice; stir to mix well. Poke holes in the top of the hot cake using toothpick; pour the coconut-pecan mixture over the cake and let it cool.
