When we dined at The Village Spoon we had the sausage and redeye gravy served with biscuits, the home style pork tenderloin with onion rings, the islander burger with hand cut curly fries and a scoop of the hand dipped vanilla ice cream. The prices were reasonable and all the flavors were delicious. Our favorite was the redeye gravy served with biscuits. The Village Spoon is a must try!! 8 Experience Omaha: STAY-CATION/WEEKEND ADVENTURE The city of Omaha has some of the best locations to offer for a grand experience on a stay-cation or weekend adventure. There is plenty to choose from for any size of group. Not far down the street, you will find the Gene Leahy Mall with the slides that every child big and small will enjoy zooming down. After feeling the wind in your hair, take a walk around the Heartland of America Park with amazing views of the water, sculptures and the fountain that jets 320 feet into the air. At night the fountain glows with a mini light show. A pedestrian bridge connects to the Lewis & Clark Landing for an extended walk. When the season calls, you must take a gondola ride to take in the site from the lake. This is an excellent area to experience in Omaha. Just ten minutes for the Old Market, you will find Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha Botanical Center. Abundant amount of beauty to take in from the many gardens, Arboretum and Bird Sanctuary, Woodland Trail, even a Japanese Garden is on the way. The great amazement of everyone is the artful Nature Connects Art with Lego Bricks exhibit. Once you have taken in the flowers at Lauritzen Gardens, feel free to venture down the street about ten minutes to Henry Doorly Zoo. Often titled World s Best Zoo, there is a reason that people come to Omaha from all over the world to experience our zoo. Walk through an indoor jungle or the world s largest indoor dessert dome and see all the animals that Mother Nature has to offer in our own backyard. Catch a movie in the IMAX Theater, take a ride on the train, or dangle over animals on the Skyfari chairlift. We could go on forever with all there is to do at the Henry Doorly Zoo; we may do so in a future article, but for now, go experience it for yourself. Please, take a day or two to enjoy downtown and its surrounding features, take a walk in the gardens and visit some cute animals.
