5 The working group BITUMEN, Germany decided 2007, that paving MA at lower temperatures is state of the art. From the beginning of 2008 only low temperature Mastic Asphalt has to be used in Germany (max. paving temperature 230 C/ 446 F).. Dr. Hutschenreuther 5

12 Benefits by using Warm Asphalt Mixes/ additives Improvement in the Stability CCBit113 AD (organic additive for lower viskosity of bitumen) cause an improved stability of the asphalt in addition. Early release to traffic Asphalt paved with reduced temperatures can be trafficked early (Frankfurt airport). Compaction aid With the advantage of lowering the temperature a better compaction behaviour can be achieved Especially for: manual paving, bad weather conditions, thin layers, asphalt with known difficult compaction Less ageing inclination of the binder The lower production and paving temperature reduces the rate of oxidation in the binder.
