Mexico is a couple weeks out. Quality has been good. Broccoli: Broccoli will see another round of increases in market price across the board for next week. Extreme heat experienced a few weeks back in CA growing regions has created a supply gap along with field quality issues. 2 Cabbage: Local quality and volume is great. Time to promote. Red and Jumbo local are also shipping. Cauliflower: Cauliflower will increase in price for next week. Moving forward, supply is expected to be lighter than the previous weeks due to field quality issues having a negative impact on overall yield. Celery: Sleeved celery will drop in market price for next week whereas hearts will hold steady. Supply is slightly exceeding overall demand for the time being. Corn: Local Sweet Corn is harvesting with great quality. Markets are steady. Local supply is projected to finish in the next 7-10 days. Cucumbers: Nogales is shipping. Markets are declining as supply is good in most areas of the country. Eggplant: We are loading in California with steady market prices. Green Beans: Georgia will be shipping in the next week. Our local season is finishing in the next 7-10 days. Green Bell Peppers: We are loading in California with steady market prices. Green / Red Leaf Lettuce: Both green and red leaf lettuce will increase in price for next week. Yields are expected to drop throughout the week and will therefore continue to firm up the market. Green Onions: Green onions will drop in market price for next week. Supply is showing signs of recovery with steadily increasing tonnage crossing from Mexico. Supply remains lighter than average and the use of non-standard labels and pack sizes may still be necessary to cover demand. Hard Squash: Local hard squash is shipping with great quality. Market prices are expected to be stable with good availability. HOT HOUSE PRODUCTS: Tomatoes on the Vine: Great quality. Production is fair, but picks a bit down than normal. Colored Peppers: Good quality and normal production. Beefsteak Tomato: Great quality and okay production. Excellent time to promote. Cucumbers: Picking fresh daily with great quality and good production. Iceberg Lettuce: Iceberg will see a market price increase for next week. The past several weeks experienced higher-than-average yields due to warm weather pushing product ahead. Yields are expected to drop throughout the week and will therefore continue to firm up the market. Onions: Growers in every region that distributes storage variety onions have begun shipping. Yellow Onion market is currently strong due to good demand. Rain has been hindering harvest and pushing the market up on all colors. Expect the market to stabilize as all areas will begin shipping storage variety onions. Quality is being reported as good. Red Onion market is stronger. Freight costs are surging due to the recent weather events in TX and FL which along with the rain is also pushing the markets up. White Onions are up as demand far exceeds supply. Washington and Oregon are seeing a smaller size profile than normal which will create an even stronger jumbo market. POTATOES: Russets: The russet potato market continues to even out as more shippers come on board for the year. Although we are in the early part of the season, growers in Idaho, Washington, Colorado are planning on normal to above-normal yields. Wisconsin and Nebraska growers may have slightly lower than normal yields. Local Russets: The warm temps and explosive rain showers have made this seasons off the field crop a challenge. Weather along with immature potatoes can create a short fuse for this early off the field crop. The unusual warm weather has also made it a challenge to harvest the storage crop potatoes. The ideal temperature to harvest is degrees and once the temp reaches 70 degrees its immediate shut down. We have not ha vested storage crop potatoes the past 8 days. Now that the weather has changed, we look forward to better harvest conditions for both off the field and storage potatoes. Reds: The red market is showing some weakness now that growers in North Dakota and Canada have begun to ship new crop red potatoes. The wet conditions have prevented good skin set. We as anxiously awaiting the first ND gold the week of 9/25 There has been less moisture in ND so we expect better quality and skin set. Sweet Potatoes: As growers are finishing up the 2017 harvest, most expect an average to slightly above average crop. Quality has been good in Mississippi and Irma didn t do damage with only about 2 of rain falling in the growing area. The first of the cured new crop will arrive the first week of October. Zucchini and Yellow Squash: We are buying an assortment of 25lb and 20lb cases to meet demand. We did move to 25lb from Nogales and will get all needs from this area as supply improves. Market prices are steady and projected to decline. VALUE ADDED DOLE: Iceberg: Abundance of supply. Heat is pushing forward. Quality is good. Seeing small amounts of fringe burn. Cedar due to heat is showing. Romaine Lettuce: Good supply and quality is okay. Cedar, long core, tip/fringe burn and insect pressure/damage all there. Snow/Snap Peas: NO supply. Poor quality. Conventional Spinach: Good supplies but an industry shortage. Good quality with insects present. Conventional Spring Mix: Good supplies and quality is okay. Insects are present. MANNS: Brussels Sprouts: Brussels Sprouts supplies are getting better and the market is starting to adjust down slowly. Orders should be filled in full going forward. Organic Broccoli: Organic Broccoli material supplies could be hit and miss this week due to quality issues from the heat. Broccoli crop loss due to the heat has us short on raw material for Florets. Retail packs the contain Broccoli Florets should be okay, but may allocated from day to day depending on raw material availability. 4/2# Broccoli Wokly will be temporarily discontinued until supplies return to normal. We are expecting this situation to last 1-2 weeks. Organic Snap Peas: Both Conventional and Organic Snap Peas supplies will be extremely short for the next 1-2 weeks due to the heat. Supplies are expected to get better when Mexico starts in days. Snow Peas will be extremely short for the next 1-2 weeks due to the heat. EARTHBOUND FARM: Unfortunately, we continue to see heavy mildew pressure in the spinach raw product. Please expect cuts on all solos spinach skus through the week. This scenario will most likely continue until we transition growing regions in November. Organic Romaine Hearts: 12x3 romaine hearts continue to be in great supply. FRUIT Apples: Local apples are in full swing on all varieties. 4 Blackberries: Mexico is up and going with good quality. Great time to get a promotion set into place. Blueberries: Peru and Argentina will be the next move on blues for imports. The tail end of the USA/CAN program was hindered with a lot of quality issues. Look for good quality as we move forward. Cantaloupe / Honeydew: Overall stable with good production. Honeydews will start to tighten up as they are in the last weeks of production before moving into Arizona. Cantaloupe should be in good production, look for Arizona fruit in the coming weeks. Carrots: Please talk to your sales rep about current carrot issues. Bolthouse is having some issues due to the heat in their growing regions and it is affecting what we will have available for the next few weeks. Organics will be very limited until the middle of October. Citrus: Import citrus is starting to get tight on the navel front. Plenty of clementines to promote. Cranberries: Local cranberries will be available this weekend from Twin Lakes. These will be in the mesh bag. GRAPES: Harvest continues in both Maricopa as well as here in Delano. While some varieties are slow to reach maturity those fields that are ready, are yielding very flavorful tasting fruit. The demand remains strong and the market is firm to rising slightly. We have been fortunate to avoid damage to the crop with some recent light showers that moved through the growing region. These events are fairly common this time of year and have not had any significant impact in our immediate area. We are continuing to open the plastic cover on our late season varieties to protect the crop from future rain events as they occur. The forecast is calling for mild temperatures and clear skies in the foreseeable future. The Harvest Hobgoblin Fall promotion is really taking off and we are getting great feedback. This proven program is a fall classic. As always, Pretty Lady and Sunlight are available daily throughout the season. Be sure to let your merchandisers know, we are in a great time of the year to really promote California grown grapes and will be through December. Green Seedless: Our Green Emerald continues to lead the way in size and flavor. We have a ways to go in harvest so keep promoting with confidence. We are also harvesting Autumn Crisp, another fantastic variety. Big round grapes with excellent flavor and a real crispy bite These will be followed next by the Autumn King that are at least a few weeks away from making their debut. Plan on plenty of opportunities for late season promotions. Red Seedless: The Scarlet Royal is very consistent this season in size, color and taste. Still our primary red variety, the eating quality is exceptional this season and we will have them into November. Backing up the late season, we have the Vintage to fill the gap through December. Once again, promote the fall and late season grape crop with confidence. Black Seedless: The Autumn Royal have commenced harvest and yes, good size, jet black color and sweet flavor. We may not see a huge harvest but the quality is there and we will have them through November so promote while you can. Red Globe: Good size, great color, firm berries that eat sweet. We are harvesting fresh daily and will have them available as needed. Mangoes: We will now be transitioning into Brazilian mangoes. Pomegranates: Early domestic varieties are now being harvested by most major shippers in the CA growing region. Wonderful variety pomegranates are expected to start in the later half of October. All shippers are advising that 36ct (and smaller) sizing will be very tight to non-existent this season. A warmer than average growing season has pushed the vast majority of the crop in to larger sizes. The peak volume size range is expected to land somewhere between the 22ct and 30ct size. Raspberries: After the month long gap in production things are picking back up. Get some promotions set into place as more new crop fruit is being harvested. Stone Fruit: Nectarines are done for the year. There are still some good late season peaches out there. Plums will go for another couple weeks. Strawberries: Quality has been good. 5 in the southern region. A good time to set up a promotion. TOMATOES: Grape: We will be back into fresh Florida fruit. Shippers are not saying much about what kind of damage was sustained from the Hurricanes that went through. Look for production to be down for the year though. Roma: Quality continues to be good, with more production coming on bored look to setup promotions. WATERMELON: Mexico and South Carolina are shipping. Markets are increasing. Nogales is reporting good quality with limited availability. South Carolina also has limited supplies as they start. Mini Seedless: Mini Seedless Watermelon are excellent quality. We are currently loading in California. Market price is expected to increase until Mid-October when Mexico starts. California hasn t quite yet started up yet because the brix isn t there yet. Should start picking next week. Organic Mangoes: We have tommy atkins mangoes right now. Keitt mangoes will be next. Organic Melons: Cantaloupe, honeydew and mini seedless watermelon are done for the season. Organic Bagged Radish: Bagged radishes are back in stock Organic Stone Fruit: Peaches will be going for a couple of weeks. Nectarines are done for the season. Organic EBF Strawberries: EBF will not have strawberries until November of December now. We are filing in with some from Central West and Cal Giant. They are very nice. Organic Turmeric: We have turmeric from Jamaica. Organic Blueberries: The last harvest of blueberries from Oregon ended up being to soft to ship. We will be gapping for about 3 weeks until imports start. Organic Broccoli: Broccoli will still be under budget harvest for 2-3 more weeks. Organic Brussels Sprouts: We are into plenty of local organic Brussels sprouts now! Organic Cauliflower: Shortages due to cold weather and shorter daylight causing industry wide shortages.
