2 Asparagus: They are still crossing asparagus from Mexico, however, the volume will continue to drop. There is also more Peruvian product available. Broccoli: Broccoli continues to be in ample supply with low market prices and promotional volume available. Brussels Sprouts: Brussels sprouts will drop in price for next week. Shippers are forecasting stronger yields for the next couple of weeks. Cabbage: Local green and red cabbage are currently shipping with good supply. Market price is steady. Cucumbers: Local cucumbers are finishing, and we will move to Michigan and Tennessee. Market price will increase. Dill: Local dill is finishing for the season. We will source other areas as needed. increase slightly. ONIONS: The onion market has remained stable over the last few weeks following significant price reductions. More growers will be harvesting as we move into September. Sweet Onions: We have new crop California Panoche onions. Pricing remains stable. Heavenly Sweets out of the NW are also available. We added 12/3# Heavenly Sweets to our lineup starting this week. Peppers: The rain has stopped again in Mexico. We will see supplies remain steady with peppers and pricing should level off. Canadian product has been hampered by the Pepper Weevil bug. This has caused many growers in Canada to pull out entire crops of peppers. Pickles: Local pickles are finishing for the season. We will source other areas as needed. Eggplant: Local eggplant is available with good quality and steady market price. Green Beans: Some local suppliers have finished sooner than anticipated due to too much rain over the past couple weeks. We will be looking to load in Tennessee shortly, and the market will increase with less supply available. Green Bell Peppers: Local supply is starting to fade, and we will start loading Michigan and Tennessee product. We will see the market increase as supplies decrease. Green Onions: Green onions continue to increase in price due to light supply. High heat and rain in Mexican growing regions is causing field quality issues. An industry-wide labor shortage is also contributing to the lower yields. Hard Shell Squash: Local hard shell squash is available. Time to promote! Iceberg Lettuce: Iceberg will edge up in price, but overall supply remains good with promotional volume available. Mini Sweet Peppers: Supply is tightening as some growing areas finish and others are not at full production. The market will POTATOES: Russets: Growers in Wisconsin, Nebraska, Texas, Idaho and Washington have begun to ship new crop russet potatoes. Size profiles have been increasing as more russet potatoes become available. Overall, pricing has decreased and is expected to remain low until all of russet potatoes have been harvested and stored nationwide and growers get an estimate of the 2016 yield. RDW is sourcing both New Crop Local Wisconsin and Minnesota russets. Quality is good from both regions. We are carrying both consumer bags and baker local potatoes. Reds: RDW is sourcing both New Crop Wisconsin and New Crop Minnesota Reds. Quality has been good. The red potato market remains steady. Supplies are available in many growing regions with movement increasing. Golds: Supplies of new crop yellow potatoes are available in several regions. Initially, prices dropped as more product became available, but pricing has begun to settle and remain stable. RDW is sourcing New Crop Wisconsin golds. Whites: New Crop WI Whites are now available. Sweet Potatoes: According to our Mississippi grower/packer, we should have a good supply of sweet potatoes through September with no gaps before new crop in October. Quality on storage crop sweets continues to be good and pricing is stable. We are now carrying new crop Jerseys and Red Garnets with California. Quality is good. Brussels Sprouts: Quality issues resulted in cuts to the chopped pomegranate and chopped poppy seed salads this week. MANN: Beans: French and Wax beans supplies continue to be inconsistent due to quality issue from the extreme heat in Baja Mexico. EBF: Plant and production issues have been improving and seeing better through put in the plant. Organic Romaine Hearts: Great promotable supplies. Production issues with Romaine Easy Leaves - unavailable at this tim- Variety Peppers: Local Poblano and Jalapeño are now in stock. Good quality and availability. Other varieties like Anaheim and yellow hot and sweet are finished for the season. Zucchini and Yellow Squash: There is a shortage of product nationwide due to areas finishing sooner than expected, including our local supply. The market is high. We will source product from multiple areas as no one area is able to ship at their full volume. VALUE ADDED DOLE: Lettuce: We are in good supplies with overall good quality for the next week or two. Product quality is good. Romaine: We are in excess volume for the next few weeks. Quality is good. Leaf Lettuce: Good volume and quality. Cabbage: Green and Red supplies and quality are good. Tenderleaf: Good supplies available in spring mix and spinach. FRUIT Apples: Local Apple start dates: Paula Red - New Crop Wisconsin available this weekend, Sweet Tango - Sept 5, Honeycrisp - Sept 19, Cider - Oct 5, Macs - Sept 5, Corts - Sept 25 We will have new crop Zestars available to stores on Sept. 5. Avocados: We are now into new crop Mexican avos. California and Peru have finished and we will see pricing rising over the next three weeks as the Mexican growers are strong arming the market to get as much of a return as possible. 4 Blueberries: The transition into 6oz will happen at the end of this week. There will still be some growers and shippers packing pints. Quality is OK. Cranberries: We will see Wisconsin cranberries by the end of September. Dragon Fruit: Florida should get going soon. Limes: Currently the limes are loading out of Vera Cruz and Jalisco, Mexico. They did get some rain in lime country, so harvesting has been a little slow. All sizes of limes are available, however, we will see a small increase in price for just a week or so and then back to normal. Mangoes: We are starting to see short supplies on smaller fruit. As we move through August, larger sizes will be prevalent in the market. New crop Brazilian are now available, and we will see pricing going up over the coming weeks. Francine Haitian mangoes have sporadic availability. PAPAYA: Solo: Availability keeps improving. Hopefully we will see the bigger sizes that we prefer soon. Maradol: Very good availability! Pomegranates: Early variety domestic pomegranates will be available for the weekend! We will have 30ct 2-layer XF Slayman to start (the largest available). 26/28 s and 36 s are a week out. Rambutan: Available! Raspberries: Conventional production continues to downtrend significantly for the next few weeks, and demand continues to exceed supply. Central Mexico s season will start the end of September. Roma Tomatoes: The region the roma tomatoes are being harvested in Mexico will continue to have supplies and Michigan is harvesting roma tomatoes. We will see the market remain strong on romas over the next couple of weeks. Strawberries: Most shippers are transitioning into new crop from Santa Maria. Favorable weather has helped with larger fruit size and yield more production. STONE FRUIT: Black Plums: Black plums will run out quickly. Small fruit size and volume. Red Plums: Red plums will see promotable volume with some late varieties. Peaches/Nectarines: Some shippers have good late season crops, while others will be pulling the plug in the next week or two. WATERMELON: We are currently loading in Michigan, Indiana, Texas and Oklahoma. Michigan and Indiana will finish shipping in the next 7-10 days. The market will increase as those shipping areas finish. Mini-Seedless Watermelon: We are currently loading in Kentucky and Indiana. We will see a market increase as these two growing areas finish in the next couple of weeks. Then we move back to product from Florida and Texas for the fall season. ORGANIC New Items: Organic 38# LOCAL Paula Red Apples - these will not be stickered Organic 10/3# LOCAL Paula Red Apples - these are in a marked bag, but no PLU or UPC Up Next - Lots of local bin seedless and seeded watermelon. Please let your sales rep know if you are interested! California organic pomegranates will be available in a week or two. Organic Blackberries: Organic production will see some fluctuation in estimate, continuing in good supply. Organic Figs: The calimyrna figs are done for the season. Black mission should go on for a month or so. Organic Lemons: Very tight and expensive right now. Pressure from a silver mite outbreak in several growing areas. Expect shortages for the next few weeks. Organic Mangoes: Ataulfo mangoes are done until maybe November. 5 mango. We will be switching to California and Mexican Keitts in a week. Organic Nectarines: We have Washington nectarines right now. Organic Peaches: The Washington peach season has come to an abrupt stop, and we will have California peaches this weekend. Organic Potatoes: We have Wisconsin grown potatoes in red, yellow and russet. Hugh s Garden out of Moorhead, MN, will start harvesting and bagging the first weeks of September. Organic Raspberries: Organic production will be very similar to conventional this week. Baja is still projected to ramp up in the middle of September. Organic Strawberries: These have benefited from the cooler weather with increased harvest.
