New introductions have been selected from hundreds of varieties to ensure their suitability to Australian conditions and are worth serious consideration. Tulips can be encouraged to flower evenly by placing the bulbs in the crisper of the refrigerator for 6 to 8 weeks before planting out in April or May, but make sure they are not kept there while fruit is being stored. This is required in any area that does not have cold winters and cold soil to obtain good length flower stems. In warm areas, keep the soil well mulched. Lift the bulbs when the leaves begin to die back, cleaning and storing them in a dry mild position at 16 to 23 deg. C. between December and February to ensure good flower development in the following year. Refrigerate as above before replanting into well-prepared soil. MIXED TULIPS.
