2 2 About TT Barrels TT Barrels is an elegant scotch style modern serif with strong industrial accents in its design. The TT Barrels project was born from a fictional technical assignment in which we tried to combine the technological effectiveness of industrial production used in engineering and the restrictions imposed by it with a beautiful scotch style serif. We decided to create a typeface that could be used to press letters on the metal body of a car, all while the typeface being elegant, and possessing sophisticated details that are typical of the classic text fonts of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In the process of designing and sketching, we reconsidered certain aspects and abandoned some of the requirements imposed by the technology of metal letter pressing, for example, from the extensive application of visual compensators, the decreased strokes contrast, and the hyperdeformation of individual letter elements to preserve a more pronounced rhythm of these elements. First of all, we wanted both to maintain the ease of reading for the entire text array and follow the rules of aesthetics of each letter in the typeface, while still leaving some influence of industriality. In the end, this influence is best manifested in serifs, which are quite massive and have a technologically exaggerated wedge shape. TT Barrels consists of 12 fonts: Light, Regular, DemiBold, Bold, Extrabold, Black and the corresponding Italics. Each outline consists of more than 999 glyphs and includes small capitals, ligatures (for Latin and Cyrillic alphabets), stylistic alternates, old-style figures and many other useful features. 4 4 Examples Barrels have a variety of uses, including storage of liquids such as water and oil, fermenting wine, arrack, and sake, and maturing beverages such as wine, cognac. TT Barrels Light 16 pt An "aging barrel" is used to age wine; distilled spirits such as whisky, or rum; beer; tabasco sauce; or (in smaller sizes) traditional balsamic vinegar. TT Barrels Light Italic 16 pt Most beverages are topped up from other barrels to prevent significant oxidation, although others such as vin jaune and sherry are not. TT Barrels Regular 16 pt Some wines are fermented "on barrel", as opposed to in a neutral container like steel or winegrade HDPE (high-density polyethylene) tanks. TT Barrels Italic 16 pt Other wooden cooperage for storing wine or spirits range from smaller barriques to huge casks, with either elliptical or round heads. 5 5 Examples To retain the desired measure of oak influence, a winery will replace a certain percentage of its barrels every year, although this can vary from 5 to 100%. TT Barrels Bold 16 pt Bulk wines are sometimes more cheaply flavored by soaking in oak chips or added commercial oak flavoring instead of being aged in a barrel. TT Barrels Bold Italic 16 pt The casks, or butts, are filled five-sixths full, leaving "the space of two fists" empty at the top to allow flor to develop on top of the wine. TT Barrels ExtraBold 16 pt The law in the United States requires that "straight whisky" must be stored for at least two years in new, charred oak containers. The barrels can be more or less porous, depending on the wood; more porous woods allow more of the product to be absorbed. Humid conditions tend to make the barrel absorb that humidity, allowing less product to be absorbed. If an aging barrel is repurposed and used to store or age another product, the residue in the wood will then be leached into the new product.
