Kunes Farm/Apple Orchard Group Tours Welcome Please Call Ahead 917 Keewayden Rd, Frenchville, PA GPS: , Fruit Stand Just off RT 879 to Keewayden RD. Watch for the signs. Open: July-November Hours: 10:00am 5:00pm Monday - Saturday and 11:00am 5:00pm Sundays Kunes Farm features a large variety of fresh picked fruits and vegetables from July- Nov. Their specialty is a wide assortment of apples picked daily from their on-site apple orchard. If you re lucky, you will see the local elk herd that likes to call this farm pasture home. Kunes also offers apple cidar, locally grown sweet corn, watermelon and peaches. Local preserves such as apple butter, jellies and jams are available for sale. Make memories and a family tradition finding your perfect pumpkin in Kunes Farm pumpkin patch. Kunes is the first farm in the county to manufacture their own all natural green product Kunes Hard Cidar. If you are a wine enthusiast, you will enjoy this unique hard Cidar. 2. Krasninski s Blueberry Farm 3163 Rolling Stone Rd. Morrisdale PA GPS: Blueberry Picking Open: July thru September - Call ahead for hours Join us on a u-pick blueberry farm tour. Enjoy the scenic drive through the country to our secluded blueberry patch. Bring your own buckets or containers and pick till your heart s content. There are a variety of bushes to choose from and each will give you its own unique taste. If you are coming from Kunes farm on rolling Stone Rd., keep your eyes open for our elusive elk herd. On-site flush toilet and cold drink for your convenience. 17. Lutherburg Amish Community Rt 410 Luthersburg PA If you are looking for a great Amish experience and scenic drive, enjoy the Amish Experience in Luthersburg along Rt 410. There are over a dozen Amish businesses over an 11 mile stretch including: quilt shops, bulk foods, furniture, tack shops, deer farm, auction barn, produce stands and more. Free of the luxuries we are accustom to you will notice children working in the gardens, on the farms, or playing in the yard. As you drive this route please be aware of your speed and be cautious of buggies and horses and children walking along the sides of the road. If you want to take pictures please ask first as many do not like pictures of their faces taken. This is a great day trip! 18. Laurel Mountain Vineyard *Century Farm 1754 Old Grade Rd. During the spring see a host of the site of a shoot-out during the Civil War. According to the account, an indentured soldier in the war went AWOL. He and the Union troops sent to get him had a skirmish at the log cabin. Mr. Walker bought the farm where the cabin stood for coal and moved the cabin piece by piece to his gardens. 13. Nelo s Buffalo Farm Grampian Pa - Call for directions Edna Nelen Hours: Must Call ahead to schedule appointment Open: June - September Tours are a narrated, interactive walk along the pastures close to the buffalo. Participants observe buffalo behavior first hand and can see how the animals are raised, fed, watered, fenced and handled. Tours typically last a half hour. Buffalo tours make a great outing for families, school groups, church groups, senior citizens, youth groups, scouts, etc. Cameras are welcome. 11. Any horse lover would enjoy the variety of activities you can pursue while visiting this large horse farm. Beginners to horse backing can enjoy safe indoor riding ring for lessons. Daffodils greet you at the stately entryway, an old railroad line you drive or walk under and a regal swan glides by on one of the many streams and ponds gracing the 10 acres known as Walker Gardens. Soon, depending on which way you walk, there are tulips, hemlock groves, waterfalls, a marble replica of Michelangelo s David, and places to sit down and drink it all in. Another section of the garden has a log cabin that was hanging baskets, bedding plants, and custom made planters. Come the first Saturday before Mother s Day for SPRING FEST. By the end of July, enjoy fresh fruits, vegetables and sweet corn. Fall is jam packed with apples, pumpkins, gourds, corn stalks and decorations. While in season the corn maze is open daily until 6 p.m. Start a family tradition at Cooper s annual PUMPKIN FEST. Pumpkin Fest is a fun filled day at the farm. A scenic Lake, rustic cabins, quaint campgrounds and unbounded forest makes Parker Dam an ideal spot for a relaxing vacation. For wilderness explorers, Parker Dam is a gateway to the vast expanses of Moshannon State Forest. You can walk through tornado ravaged woods, backpack into the 50,000 acre Quehanna Wilderness, mountain bike to your heart s content or enjoying solitude searching for elusive Pennsylvania Elk. Parker Dam also offers many educational classes ranging from the history of the impressive White Pines that were harvested from their forest in 1794 to Pennsylvania s largest and strongest tornados roared through the park and destroyed the towering forest of ash, oak, beech and sugar maple trees. The month of March is maple sugaring month. Each Saturday the staff walks interested visitors through the making of maple sugar. Parker Dams offers many hands on activities, guided walks and evening programs. 6 Century Farm s According to author Jane Elling, Pioneering farmers of Pennsylvania preserved through all kinds of difficulties. The hardships of pioneer farming were offset by its compensations. Virtues and ideas were developed thrift, close family and community ties, cooperation, reverence for the Creator, selfreliance and love for liberty. During the revolution, it was Pennsylvania s farmers who led the way to the Declaration of Independence and constituted a majority of the Pennsylvania contingent in the Continental Army. The frontier spirit carried through the revolution and is now deeply rooted in our farm families. Their love of land, nature, and liberty is second to no other group. The population of the Pennsylvania at the outbreak of the American Revolution was 98 percent rural. Practically all of the activities of the early settlers were organized around providing food and fiber for the family and friends. Yet throughout the first 200 years of the colonization and statehood in Pennsylvania, farmers were the most important element in our population. Farmers dominated the economic and political life of the commonwealth not only due to the fertile soil and effective farming methods,, but also due to the character of the farmers themselves. The Century farms program has been created to recognize those farms and farm families which have done so much to contribute to Pennsylvania heritage. The farms and families have greatly varied histories, yet all have common denomination of the durability and love of the land that is our Heritage. As you are touring our county side feel free to admire some of our Last standing Century Farms. Please be courteous to the owners.
