2 W IN E O F T H E M O N T H Trents The Lodge Hill Shiraz Vintage Brief description: Situated in the cool heights of South Australia s Clare Valley, the vineyards of Jim Barry Wines were established in A family run winery committed to producing quality wines through an innovative approach to viticulture and winemaking. Colour/Hue: An inky/opaque almost black wine with a dark magenta hue. Bouquet: On the nose it offers sweet spice, aniseed, roasted herbs, mulberry and blackberry fruit characters. It has an exuberant palate with blueberry and blackcurrant fruit to the fore. With its fine-grained tannins it finishes long and juicy. Food Pairing Suggestion: Lamb and Beef Dishes. Ideally suited to good food, good friends and good conversation!! The Lodge Hill Shiraz has soils of rich, chocolaty loam over almost vertical sheets of rock. The cracks between the rock have filled with soil, providing passage for the vine roots and free drainage - the ideal environment for low-yielding shiraz vines. In contrast to recent vintages, the 2013 vintage was characterised by very dry conditions throughout the growing and ripening seasons. Fortunately the vines had good sub-surface moisture levels to draw upon from the plentiful winter rains and with supplementary irrigation the vines were in great condition at harvest. Clare Valley, South Australia Wine has been flowing in the Clare Valley since 1851 and is an integral part of the culture. It is one of Australia s most prestigious premium wine regions famous for its Riesling and Shiraz. A tiny area accounting for less than 1.5% of the total Australian wine production.
