7 MEET THE MAKER VIÑ A REAL Viña Real was launched in the 1920s, these wines are produced from grapes grown in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa province. The vineyards border the Camino Real or Royal Drive ; hence the origin of the Vina Real name. It is one of the first brands to produce age-worthy wines in the Rioja Alavesa from Tempranillo grapes. 8 MEET THE MAKER CONTINO A joint-venture by CVNE and the Perez-Villota family, it was José de Madrazo Real de Asúa who first saw the potential of the vineyard to produce grapes in their own right. He effectively established Contino as the Bordeaux château concept in Rioja. There are some 60 hectares of vineyards planted here along the northern bank of the river Ebro. The winery itself is found within the estate s old farmhouse which overlooks the entire property. Since 1999 Jesus Madrazo, son of José, has been in charge of winemaking and takes a very hands-on approach to the business. He uses a mix of French, American and Hungarian oak to achieve soft, opulently-flavoured wines. BTL CONTINO BLANCO - VIURA RIOJA The wine is a straw-yellow colour with an elegant, floral nose, integrated spices & white fruit - silky, fullbodied, fresh & fruity on the palate, it has a delicious, lingering aftertaste CONTINO ROSADO - GARNACHA, GRACIANO, VIURA RIOJA When producing this Rosado, Jesus Madrazo was looking for a Rosado wine with ageing capacity of at least 3 years. 9 BTL CONTINO GRACIANO - GRACIANO RIOJA The single varietal Contino Graciano Rioja is only produced in exceptional years. The hand-harvested grapes are vinified slowly, before being aged in French & Hungarian oak casks for thirteen months, then a minimum of one year in bottle prior to release CONTINO VINA DEL OLIVIO - TEMPRANILLO RIOJA Contino s flagship & widely regarded as one of the greatest wines in Spain. To pay homage to an old olive tree surrounded by vines, contino created viña del olivo, a modern yet fine & elegant wine
