Chill it for ten minutes. 2. Spread dulce de leche over the base, cool and then chill for about 1 hour, until firm or until ready to serve. 3. Slice the bananas. 6 Culinary Features of Great Britain Like many western countries culinary traditions in Britain are being replaced with a wide range of foods from all over the whole. Britain s colonial past and central role in today s global culture mean that British people have very broad taste and love to eat in Indian, Chinese, Thai, Italian and French cuisine. However, there are some traditional meals that continue to endure despite global competition. The tradition of a Full British Breakfast consisting of bacon, sausages, eggs, fried mushrooms, and baked beans is still very popular but normally only eaten in hotels or cafés. Sometimes a family will eat this at the weekend when they have more time. It s not a quick meal to prepare and it s very unhealthy! Nowadays, breakfast is usually cereal or toast and jam for most people. Another tradition is the English Cream Tea which is a light meal originating from Devon and Cornwall, in the southwest of England. It is usually eaten at around 4 o clock in the afternoon and traditionally consists of scones, cream, strawberry jam, sometimes sandwiches, and, of course, tea served with milk. Once again, this is not normally eaten at home but reserved for special afternoon with family or friends at a restaurant or quaint café in the countryside. Dinner, also known in some parts of the country as tea or supper, is the most important meal of the day in British culture. This is the meal at which the family comes together to eat, normally around 6 o clock. Cottage Pie, Steak and Kidney Pie, Fish Pie and meat and two veg dishes are usually eaten. Friday is the traditional day to eat the British specialty of Fish & Chips for dinner. This is usually bought at the local Chippy (Fish and Chip Shop). On Sundays British families eat a Roast Dinner (which, despite its name, is eaten at lunchtime). This usually consists of chicken, roast potatoes and other popular British vegetables, such as carrots and cabbage, with gravy.
