RYK FRANCISCO About Ryk Ryk Francisco began working in kitchens after graduating from high school. His interest in food led him to pursue experiences away from home in Aspen and New York. When he returned to Oregon, he reconnected with friend Sean Kelly, who helped bring to life Ryk s dream of opening a community-driven restaurant. 7 The Wonder The water at Crater Lake is so blue and deep, it s no surprise it s the deepest lake in America, and one of the deepest on earth. You may not think to travel to this Wonder s remote location to eat delicious food, but Jenn Louis begs to differ. Alpine summits peer over the high desert of Indian country that rolls on for miles, hugged by the Snake River winding along its border and dotted with the working ranches that produce the region s famous beef. 11 The Wonder At Smith Rock, towers of volcanic ash rise like cathedral spires out of the sage and dust of the high desert. It s the birthplace of American sport climbing, and it looks over some of the best cattle ranches and breweries in the Northwest. PAUL LOSCH About Paul Paul Losch, a Pennsylvania native, started working in restaurants at the age of 13. From there, he was fortunate to travel (and cook) across the states and abroad. Paul s dream was to own a small-town restaurant, much like he d seen and enjoyed as a child. Thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, his dream has come true in Newberg with Ruddick/Wood. GREGORY GOURDET About Gregory Gregory Gourdet is the executive chef at Portland s popular pan-asian restaurant Departure. Gregory was a premed student with a mohawk when he discovered a passion for cooking. He s since seen great success putting gluten-free, vegan and paleo fare on the table of fellow health-minded restaurant goers. Gregory has always been intrigued by the beauty of the Painted Hills.
